25.01.2022 Good planning meeting. On Saturday members of our group shared lunch and ideas for the arborethem proposal on land behind the Strathallan Hall. Armed with maps of the area (a good 5 hectares) it was agreed that everyone needs to play a role if we are to be successful. Scott Wise from Rochester Nursery had agreed to be an overall advisor, Shaz Herne's permaculture background made her the ideal soils person, and John Child will add his extensive interest of indigenous varieties.... John Groat will source and provide mulch and Shire of Campaspe has donated Biomix. Kevin Sheads 30 year knowledge of the current water tank will help as we investigate a new additional tank and pump for the project. Several names were put forward for landscape architectural advice. It was encouraging to see that plants around the hall are growing well and several including a native apricot are currently in flower. Thanks to Sharon for photos. See more

01.01.2022 Though their seeds are a common snack, gardeners may not know that sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) are safe to eat from root to flower petal. Before consuming, however, consumers should verify that the sunflower has been grown organically and has not been exposed to pesticides or other chemicals.
