24.01.2022 It's International TIGER Day today! Wednesday 29th July On behalf of Strathdale Hockey Club, Mick Lawlor has adopted a tiger for a YEAR at the Melbourne Zoo - ROARRRR Thanks Mick! The tiger's name is Indrah... DID YOU KNOW - ONLY an estimated 3,900 tigers remain in the wild. 20.01.2022 ***Junior training Thursday 30th July*** Good evening everyone, With the news today of the closure of 3 schools in the Bendigo region due to positive test results for COVID-19 and the requirement for a number of our families to go into self isolation we have made the decision to cancel junior training for this coming week 30th July 2020. ... Whilst we know this is disappointing that there will be no training for juniors this week we felt this decision is the best decision for the health and wellbeing of our members. At this stage there is no change to the planned games this coming Friday and Monday for our juniors but as always this is a constantly moving environment and we don't know what tomorrow will bring. Should there be any need for change we will advise you all as soon as we have any information. What I do need from all of our junior players now is a response as quickly as possible to advise if you will be available to play for your teams this Friday and Monday. Those who have been asked to isolate will not be allowed to attend the BRHC until they have been given the all clear from DHHS. As for our seniors this Thursday training will still occur as normal. Anyone who has had any contact with any of the 3 schools or have been tested and awaiting results are not to attend training until they are given the all clear from DHHS. As always please access Team App to advise of your availability for training this Thursday. This virus has shown signs now of community transmission so please if you have any symptoms do not attend training and please go and get tested. I am hopeful that this will only be an impact on our club for this week and from next week we can hopefully return to normal but we will certainly keep you all updated as things change. 19.01.2022 Bendigo 2020 SENIOR WINTER competition It is with great sadness that we report, that HCV has decided to CANCEL the 2020 Senior winter hockey competition in Bendigo. Tim Annett, our Club president has written an email to all Club members this afternoon. Senior training will STILL GO AHEAD tonight - Thursday 16th July, as it has in previous weeks. ... The decision to cancel the 2020 Senior Winter competition has not been made lightly and all Club Presidents have worked closely with HCV over the past months to try and find a workable option to get a senior hockey season running. Unfortunately in reviewing the current COVID-19 situation as it stands in Victoria and the recent announcements regarding senior contact sport competitions by the Victorian Minister for Community Sport, HCV made the difficult decision to cancel the season and provided formal notification to Club Presidents of this last night. HCV sends their thanks to all of the Club Committees and their members for their patience and their support as they have tried to commence hockey this year. HCV, Strathdale Hockey Club and indeed all of the other Bendigo Hockey Clubs, hope that everyone can still band together and continue to support all of the junior hockey teams as their competitive season commences next week (Monday 20th July). This does not mean that hockey in Bendigo for Strathdale Senior players is necessarily done & dusted for the year. Your Strath Hockey Committee recognises that we have had great numbers attending our trainings so far this season, despite the modified contact training arrangements, and we are now working on a plan to move us forward as a Club and how we get our seniors back on the pitch. There is also the potential to explore more competitive hockey options as an Association in Spring/Summer when we may see changes in the Covid-19 regulations. For now, please check out our Club email from Tim (sent this afternoon), stay tuned for further updates over the coming weeks and most of all - stay safe and remember to follow all the rules to ensure the safety of yourself and all those around you. Competition GAMES started last night and there's DEFINITELY still time to get involved! MONDAY NIGHTS is where it's at... They are specifically looking for more Under 11s as not many of our players turned up... And we know we have heaps of keen u/11 kids - so we're putting the call out - are you u/11 & keen for hockey games (yep competition!). 17.01.2022 SENIORS TRAINING CANCELLED TONIGHT 30/7 Given the recent spike in COVID cases in Bendigo, in particular the closure of multiple schools in the region, we have made the decision to cancel Senior training tonight - 30th July. (Junior Training has already been cancelled for tonight) Your Strath Committee has made this decision with player and your family's health and wellbeing being of utmost importance. We understand that DHHS is still in the process of conducting a significan...t contact tracing exercise throughout the region and we know that our club has players in both Juniors and Seniors attending the impacted schools, so we feel this is the best and safest decision as a Club. WE KNOW that you are all keen to be on the pitch and we are hopeful that this will only be for this week. Our plan is for everyone to return to training next Thursday 6th August, however should this change we will make contact with you all again. 13.01.2022 Good Morning Strathdale Hockey Club Members It is with great sadness today that I write to you to advise that all hockey for the 2020 season will be cancelled. In line with the announcement yesterday from Premier Dan Andrews regional Victoria will enter into stage 3 restrictions which includes the stopping of community sport. The only sport able to be undertaken is for exercise and with a strict limit of a group of 2 maintaining 1.5m distancing. ... I want to take this opportunity to thank my committee for all of their efforts in working around the restrictions we had in place to get as much hockey this year as we could, it was a tough job but we got quite a bit of hockey. Thank you to Helen Coughlan for her efforts as the club's COVID officer making sure we were all safe at training. Thank you to all of our amazing coaches and managers for their ability to really go with the flow and make sure we had quality training and our kids got out on the pitch for at least the 1 round that we got. Thank you to all of you, our members, for your flexibility throughout this pandemic. It has been a very different year and we would never have been able to get the quality or quantity of hockey that we did without you all playing your part in the new COVID world we are in. This will not be the end of it all as we hope that in the future things will ease and HCV will look to hopefully have a summer season in some form or another and if not we as a club will certainly investigate our options to get you all back on the pitch when and if we can. For anyone who has any club gear such as shirts or goalkeeping kits etc at home please hold onto those and keep them safe we will be in touch to make arrangements for the return of any equipment back to the club. Keep your eye on your emails and the club Facebook page over the coming weeks and months for any updates on what may be happening with the club in the future. For now, please everyone stay safe and look after yourselves and your families. If we all do our part over the coming weeks and follow the rules then we will be hopefully able to come out of this in the not too distant future. With the announcement last week that the HCV Senior Competition will not go ahead this season, your Strathdale HC Committee and Coaches have been working together on an option to keep you all on the turf - exercising and playing hockey!! 11.01.2022 Member & Player WINTER SEASON UPDATE: Melbourne / Hockey Victoria Competitions - Hockey Victoria has announced that the winter season for HV and it's Melbourne competitions has been cancelled. HV has advised that it will instead focus on an 8-week summer competition across Melbourne later in the year. - HV has cancelled JSC and JCC competitions... - The changes to sport and exercise restrictions in recent days relate ONLY to metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire. Regional Areas - JUNIOR: Hockey Victoria has advised NO CHANGE to the currently permitted Junior training - and this currently permits contact/competitive training. Junior training CAN continue subject to ongoing approvals from our own Association, HCV. - JUNIOR: As per our communications over the past few days, the Junior competition for Bendigo is almost ready to start. JUNIOR COMPETITION CAN START once the fixtures are completed by HCV. We will advise asap on this. - SENIOR TRAINING will continue as is (non competitive/contact) until further advice is received from HCV and HV. - We are are working closely with HCV (as per our communications with you all over the past few days) on the SENIOR competition and what it will look like. We'll keep training each Thursday as we are, so that as soon as we're given the 'green light' from HV and HCV, Strathdale Club senior team members are READY TO GO with full contact training and competition. - Spectators for outdoor training and competitions must abide by gathering restrictions Remember when you're lining up for training, when you're on the sidelines and when you come to watch games: keep social distancing 1.5m; spectators should be in groups of no more than 10 and spread out around the ground or venue. - Hockey Victoria met with Sport and Recreation Victoria yesterday (Thurs 9th July), and will advise as soon as it can, when adults can resume full-contact training and when adults can resume full-contact competition. - Your Strathdale Committee is in regular contact with HCV with respect to current training arrangements (JUNIOR & SENIOR) and the upcoming competition plans and will pass on any news AS SOON AS it comes to hand.

04.01.2022 Today the Premier announced residents of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell shire will return to stage 3 lockdown from midnight Wednesday for six weeks. This ...will clearly have a direct impact on our ability to run the Hockey Victoria 2020 Winter Season as planned. Effective immediately Hockey Victoria will suspend all HV hockey activities and encourage clubs in metropolitan Melbourne to suspend all training activities. We have a forum scheduled Thursday night (please note the change from Wednesday to Thursday) with our club and associations where we will work through the issues presented and listen to our affiliates. This is going to be a tough period for many families and livelihoods but as a hockey community, we will pull through. A special thanks goes out to the tireless work of our community volunteers and we thank all the players who have been training hard to get the season going again. Unfortunately, this isn’t the news any of us wanted to hear but it’s a reality. Further updates will be provided in the coming days and weeks. Stay safe.
