22.01.2022 Just to let the community know that it seems we’ve had someone set up camp in our ‘village’ cubby on the school corner opposite the cfa shed. Pillows, bedding, beanie, cigarettes, butts, lighters & a complete syringe were found this morning. The school has been staffed daily throughout the remote learning period and we hadn’t noticed anyone around. Police have been notified and inspected the scene.

09.01.2022 In 1918, an unbreakable bond was formed between the residents of a French village and the people of Australia. After Villers-Bretonneux was liberated from the... German army by two Australian brigades, Victorian kids fundraised to help rebuild the school which was named L'Ecole Victoria in tribute. Ninety years later, in 2009, Villers-Bretonneux came to Victoria's aid when Strathewen Primary School was destroyed during Black Saturday. The people fundraised. The school was rebuilt. The bond was strengthened. And as our state faced the devastating fires of this summer, the hand of friendship once again extended over 17,000kms. Villers-Bretonneux raised more than $30,000 for the bushfire relief effort and held a march in solidarity. And we have Mayor Patrick Simon to thank for so much of these efforts. He was the town’s leader for 12 years, and said that the ideas for support ’came from my heart’. Tragically, Patrick lost his life to coronavirus recently. To the people of Villers-Bretonneux, we send our deepest condolences. Your loss is our loss.

08.01.2022 ‘Here at SPS we are very sad to learn of the passing of Dr Patrick Simon AO, the Mayor of Villers-Bretonneux in France. Dr Simon was a special friend of the Strathewen Primar School community, who formed a longstanding connection to our school after reaching out to support us in 2009. Dr Simon led a tour group visit to SPS back in 2011 and we enjoyed a wonderful day of friendship. Our special connection with the people of Villers- Bretonneux is something we treasure and celebrate. We send our heartfelt condolences to Dr Simon’s loved ones and to the people of Villers-Bretonneux. Dr Simon passed away as a result of coronavirus. He will be sadly missed.’
