20.01.2022 Wow! Silver never looked so good! This brand new Porsche GT3RS came in to us enquiring about a few things. One of them is a reverse camera. I mean.. with a spoiler like that and factory roll cage, you'd think a reversing camera was standard.... We did a bit of in house research and found an aftermarket integration module that is compatible with this infotainment system. This module allows us to install an aftermarket reversing camera but still maintain similar features like the OEM. A video will follow after this post showing the system operational with full moving lines. We also finished it off with a Thinkware Dashcam to ensure this beauty is protected in the event of an incident. As usual.. I think the pictures speak louder than words. 19.01.2022 Porsche are known for building quality vehicles. However, just like most European manufacturers, there is a bucket list of options. If you didn't opt for the upgraded Audio, it is definitely nothing special.... The owner of this Porsche had one of his other vehicles upgraded with us and was impressed with how much better the sound quality could be with a simple upgrade. He opted to go a little bit more 'up spec' for this car. Here at Strathfield car radios, we try to guide our customers into making the right decision instead of push a sale or product. We recommended the Kenwood unit as it has Hi-Res audio certification. After listening to about 6 pairs of speakers, he was stuck between 2 speakers but ultimately chose the Pioneer TSZ-65C speakers. We then mated this to the Pioneer GMD8704 amplifier to ensure power delivery to the speakers were not going to be an issue. Wiring of choice is a 4GA StingerAustralia unit. With the factory radio going, the factory 6 stacker CD was no longer required. We removed this and placed the amplifier in this location so it is well hidden and is not taking up any more space than it should. You have to make sure you tick the right boxes to make sure you covered all the options.... Navigation was one of the options on this customers 2020 Sprinter. Luckily for this customer, we were able to source a navigation integration unit that works in tandem with the factory system. It does not affect the factory system in any way. 16.01.2022 We like to start this post by thanking our customers and everyone that's come to us during these hard times. We have been busy here in store so stay tuned as there will be new posts coming up in the next few days and weeks. We'll start off with this classic Ford.... The owner of this classic Ford Fairmont came to us wanting a freshen up and make it a bit more relevant to today's standard. The owner loved the idea of a 9" screen with apple carplay/android auto, so we agreed the Alpine ILXF259E was the one to go with. We also decided to add a reversing camera while we're at it to help with parking this beast of a car. Speakers in the front kick panel was upgraded with a pair of slim KSC54 Kicker speakers. For the rears, we installed Kicker KSC69 speakers in a 6x9 enclosed box to compliment the front speakers. This was a nice upgrade as this vehicle did not come with factory rear speakers. With Audio covered, we discussed increased security for the car. We went ahead and fitted a Mongoose M80 alarm system with central locking motors. 15.01.2022 St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney Reached out to us for Head unit upgrades as their transport vehicles are not classified as an emergency vehicle. Therefore, something with phone connectivity was required in order for their drivers to be able to answer calls while on the road. During the course of 4-6 months we have completed a few of these transport vehicles with each one getting a different unit depending on what was already installed in the vehicle.... Pictured here is one of the simpler installs. We installed a Pioneer AVH-Z7250BT unit which has apple carplay/android auto compatibility. This has now allowed the drivers of these patient transport vans to use navigation off the phone without needing an external navigator or putting the phone on a cradle. We hope this has helped the team at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney during this time with COVID. 13.01.2022 Utes in Australia is part of our culture. It is becoming more common that these purpose built vehicles are being used for daily duties in the city. Slowly slowly, manufacturers are making these vehicles more comfortable for daily use but are still leaving the audio systems at an average quality. We find a lot of these average systems lack bass.... With limited room to work with, it's also a challenge to put a subwoofer in the vehicle. An Underseat subwoofer is the best solution to this, however, it is near impossible to get the same experience out of an under seat subwoofer in comparison to a full size or even a slim line subwoofer. KICKER have released a 10" version of their underseat subwoofer, the HS10. We must say.. It's quite impressive to see how much bass this little unit produces. It is without a doubt the closest thing you can get to a full sized subwoofer. As you can see in the pictures, it fits extremely well in this 2019 Isuzu DMAX like as if it had nothing there. 08.01.2022 When you are running a fleet of vehicles with visible signage, it becomes too easy for members of the public to take advantage of this and report an incident against the company for something the driver has not done. It would be the perfect world to think that everyone is honest, however, there are a minority that will take advantage of a situation only to benefit themselves. We hear these types of stories too frequently from companies with larger trucks on the fleet.... The solution? Commercial grade 4 channel dashcam with up to 400hrs of recording time. 05.01.2022 This BMW 1 series came to us with the intent of having carplay/android auto in the vehicle. In the 1 series with iDrive, it is near impossible to change the unit across without affecting the factory system. It consists of a top display screen, centre dashboard module and centre control panel near the handbrake lever. The only solution is an integration of some sort. In this case we were able to source a replacement top display screen which utilises an android operating system... that incorporates the factory BMW system whilst adding apple carplay/android auto capability. The display is upgraded to a 10.1" (side to side) screen which freshens up the interior of the car. We were also able to easily integrate an OEM look reversing camera that mounts on the boot handle. 03.01.2022 Seeing as everyone is going into isolation, let's play a little game! How many faults can you find in the first 10 photos? The new owner of this BMW 1 series came in to us with an issue with his speakers. It would sometimes cut in and out. Most times, some speakers doesn't work for days.... Being a used car, the new owner does not know what has been done to the car. At the time of testing, there was an issue with one of the front woofers. We tested for a signal to the speaker and found that there was no signal to the woofer, but was a signal to the mids and tweeters. We only assumed at this point that the system was still factory. Factory BMW amplified systems usually run their own crossover network within the amplifier. Knowing this, it is quite easy to figure out that, the woofer channel is blown, hence why it is still producing sound through the other speaker, but not the woofer. Boy were we wrong! We recommended to the customer that we run an entry level mono block to run the woofers on their own as the factory amp costs thousands to replace. Upon installation, we found aftermarket wiring near the woofer and thought.. ok someone's been here before but could be for something else that had already been removed. We proceeded with the install. As anyone would guess... At this point, we encountered a few issues and was left quite dumbfounded. We thought to check the amp.. maybe a broken wire? To our surprise, we saw similar wiring at the amp that we saw under the seats.. Why? Naturally, we decided to follow this meticulous wiring job and we were stunned. The level of 'I don't care' with this wiring was unprecedented. Copper wires exposed, wires not properly crimped, terminals missing wires, amplifier secured by air and gravity... Shocking. We would move the amp and sound would be coming and going just as the customer described. Bingo. We advised the customer and decided to fix up the wiring and see if the system would operate as per normal. As usual.. the pictures speak for themselves. To the customers surprise, this had fixed all his problems and ended up costing him LESS than what we initially quoted as we did not need to use the monoblock amp. We had a giggle afterwards but we did highlight the potential severe implications for a poor install. People fail to realise that this type of carelessness WILL lead to a fire. We see too many times people try to do a job themselves and are clearly not qualified to do so. Saving a couple hundred dollars will end up costing you thousands..
