23.01.2022 On Tuesday, 15th September, Year 12 English EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect, formerly ESL) class launched this year’s Our Stories an anthology of student autobiographies and migrant stories. The book has become a Strathfield Girls Tradition and this year, the book was outstanding. The publication is entirely put together by the Year 12 students, and began as their first assessment task in the Year 11 Preliminary English EAL/D course at our school. Our... EAL/D students have undergone adventurous and sometimes challenging journeys from their homelands to finally complete their HSC studies in Australia! The editing team, in which students are given full creative freedom, make all the major artistic decisions, edit stories and compile them into a beautiful publication. Well done Year 12 EAL/D 2020! You have all come so far, and will go on to achieve wonderful and amazing things. Each Faculty and the Library have been given a copy to enjoy. Excerpts But as soon as I made some friends, everything became so much better. I started spending my free time with them, competed reading comps and sports with them, and learnt their first language. Half a term was gone in such a small amount of time, and it felt like everyone in the school were my friends. When I looked around during those first few weeks in Australia, there wasn’t a place or a person that felt familiar. There weren’t any comfortable places for me to go to whenever I felt like I needed some alone time. I also realised that I kept on thinking about my life in Korea and what I had lost; my friends, families and memories. All of which kept me from having an open mind towards Australia. From then on, I tried my best to think of the positives and advantages that I could gain from living in Australia. Many people have asked me: Do you regret going to Australia? Do you think it was beneficial? And do you like your life here?. I considered these questions deeply and replied: I do not regret this at all. It changed my life, my way of looking at things and the world, and shaped me as a more independent person. Life here isn’t as easy as everyone said it would be but I learnt time management as well as the ability to self-learn. So yes, I do like my life here. It made me a unique person. Now as my journey of life gets tougher, I know I will be able to improve and survive to live well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPM78u1M8FY

Donations can include: deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, sanitary items, shampoo, body wash etc. We hope you can support this cause! #itsinthebag #sharethedignityaustralia

17.01.2022 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Fresh in my mind at the end of last week is the memory of the Year 12 Graduation ceremony, a tribute to an outstanding group of girls who are departing the school after six years of commitment to their studies. As a school community we are extremely proud of these young women who I can confidently state have developed the special quality of resilience which has allowed them to develop personal determination to succeed, to make their dreams a reality and mo...re importantly, to make a positive contribution to our society. The last six years have been, I am sure for the girls very influential, not only on their learning, but on their broader development as the responsible, thoughtful and considerate young women that they are. On Tuesday night, we celebrated the culmination of their hard work at high school at their Formal held at Doltone House Jones Bay Wharf. The girls looked stunning and ready to take on the world. It was a privilege to participate in their well-deserved celebration at the end of a challenging year. I am completely confident that they are well-equipped to contribute meaningfully in every sphere of life, and to successfully pursue the careers of their choice. On their behalf, I thank the parents and teachers who have supported them with such care and commitment over these formative years; and especially, during the recently-concluded Higher School Certificate examinations. Best wishes from all of us, Year 12! FOR MORE SCHOOL NEWS, CLICK HERE TO SEE OUR LATEST NEWSLETTER! >>>> https://sway.office.com/GPGli3n76ajRdpua?

The event is always a powerful one that is celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The morning was filled with insightful, inspirational and heartfelt speeches from guest speakers. We also celebrated the achievements of one of our year 11 students Rakshita Surisetti, who is in line to receive the Year 10 Citizenship Award at a special evening in May. An equal world is an enabled world, and our girls are on track to do their part to in creating this gender equal world.
14.01.2022 Yr 7 Geography Field Excursion On the 10th and 12th of August, Year 7 Geography students attended an excursion to Lavender Bay, Milsons Point and Millers Point. Students explored the different areas while collecting primary data to determine the liveability of the area with guidance from their class teachers and geographers. On the day, students used a range of geographical instruments including noisemeters, thermometers and light meters to measure light, noise, temperature a...nd the height of buildings. The data that students collected will now be used to complete their assessment task. Overall, this was a great opportunity for students to put their knowledge of Place and Liveability into practice. 08.01.2022 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE & LATEST NEWSLETTER These last weeks of the 2020 school year have been a whirl of activity, as they so often are. Inevitably, as the days count down, the number of tasks to be completed by the end of term always seems to increase, while the remaining time slips away. Eventually, the effect is a little overwhelming, however we all get to the finish line. How wonderful, then, that in the midst of all this busyness there can be some time out to enjoy and a...dmire our girls achieving and performing in various Key Learning Areas. For me, this welcome distraction came on the Friday of the week before last, in the form of an outstanding piano recital. The performers were, of course, our own girls (about 45 of them, from Years 7 to 11), the location was our school Hall, and in the audience were over 70 parents who were extremely proud. They, and I, were treated to some beautiful music over the course of a couple of hours music both classical and modern, but all capable of moving the listener to another place and enjoying that special moment. As I listened to those performances, I appreciated again the talents of those fine young musicians, the dedication and hours of practice which allowed their talents to develop, and the families who encouraged them along the way. It is just one more area in which our girls excel. A special thank you to Mr Lewis for coordinating the event. His commitment and dedication is appreciated by the school community. The piano recital night in the blur of activity which accompanies this time in the year, provided some much-needed distraction and calmness for us all. Thank you, girls! 07.01.2022 Australian Business Week 2020 Strathfield Girls High School this week has been the venue for our Australian Business Week (ABW) activity that has allowed our students to engage and participate in real life learning! ABW is an intensive learning experience which gives students the opportunity to work with business men and women, and teacher facilitators, to learn about running a successful business. Students are called upon to make choices which will affect the future of their... virtual business choices about marketing strategies, products, pricing, staffing and rectifying errors in relation to their business decisions were all part of the process. Along the way, participants developed important skills such as creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, communication and leadership skills that will prepare our students for the world of work. About two hundred students from this school and Homebush Boys High School have gathered for this purpose in the SGHS assembly hall on each day for this past week and have organised themselves in teams to work on their business-related activities. At the end of the week, successful teams have received awards in recognition of their achievements. On behalf of all these students, I would like to thank the various business representatives who have mentored and coached these budding entrepreneurs, and the staff who have worked hard to organise this extended activity. A special thank you to Ms Cocco and Mr Koutsoukos for their commitment, dedication and superb organisation of this amazing event that allowed our students to flourish in the learning process, as every student experienced success in all areas of achievement. Thank you to Ms Serafim, our Director, Educational Leadership and Mr Elgood for participating in the program, their expertise and feedback was highly valued by the students. Who knows how many successful business careers may have been launched this week? Best wishes to all our school community, as we near the end of the school year. Another great year for Visual Arts at SGHS. #Repost @artgalleryofnsw with @make_repost #ARTEXPRESS2020 student artists explore harrowing themes with a courageous eye and a graceful hand. Inspired by the January 2019 MurrayDarling Basin incidents of mass fish deaths which stem from the irresponsible actions of humanity, I developed a post-apocalyptic setting for my body of work. Students have been working industriously with scientific testing methods, using mathematical problem solving skills and researching and implementing design development through the use of digital technologies. ...
