25.01.2022 Celebrating NAIDOC week at Pippies. A celebration held across Australia each year observing the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Over the coming two weeks children will have the opportunity to engage in different experiences and activities to support awareness and education of the Indigenous Australian Culture.... Various art and craft activities, creating flags, painting rocks and drawings of traditional dream time stories are just some of the things we will explore. Providing the children with these experiences allows them to develop their understanding and empathy skills by responding to diversity with respect. Learning about the culture of Indigenous Australians always excites the children and keeps them interested in learning about diversity and Aboriginal Australian history.

21.01.2022 Through this experience children were able to explore science as we talked about the flow of gravity and the mixing of different ingredients. Children were able to choose which colour they wished their volcano to promoting childrens sense of agency. Together we problem solved as children asked questions and were seeking answers such as how to keep the lava flowing. Vinegar was our active ingredient in this process and acted as the gas in the volcanoes. ... Children were able to extend and practice their numeracy skills as we measured out our ingredients. Children applied use of both big and small muscle groups as we carefully and slowly carried our volcanoes to the bark area outside and to create a mould around our volcanoes. Children were intrigued, fascinated and extremely engaged watching their volcano erupt. Together we concluded that, volcanoes have many different shapes and sizes, some look like steep mountains, others look like bumps and some are flat with a hole in the centre and filled with water. The shape of the volcano and how explosively it erupts depend largely on how sticky and how fizzy (how much gas) the magma is that is erupted

20.01.2022 This week at Pippies, we have been celebrating NAIDOC week providing meaningful experiences to enhance childrens knowledge of the world we live and give them exposure to develop cultural competence which is: being aware of ones own world view developing positive attitudes towards cultural differences gaining knowledge of different cultural practices and world views developing skills for communication and interaction across cultures.... At Pippies children have engaged in a variety of experiences such as Dreamtime stories, dot art, using our hands to replicate the Aboriginal flag, finger painting, sensory experiences- exploring wattle and enjoying orange and wattle seed muffins, kangaroo sausage sangas, listening and participating in traditional Dreamtime music, sensory rainbow spaghetti snakes and so much more! Not only do these experience engage children in the appreciation and exploration of culture but the activities promote and extend on many developmental key areas. But most of all the children at Pippies have so much fun experimenting and exploring in a safe and nurturing environment.

15.01.2022 At Pippies we believe creating interest areas within our service that are beneficial to both children and educators. For children, interest areas guide play, exploration and discovery which are all used to foster childrens holistic development. Interest areas enable educators to think intentionally about how to organise the space and involve the children to provide accessible materials that engage children and enhance their play experiences.

14.01.2022 Exploring childrens interest on bugs and insects - watch this space for updates as we continue to explore Children read about honey bee and learnt that in a hive the females are worker bees, the males are drone and there is one queen bee. We looked at the pictures of the honeycomb and discovered these not only hold the honey but also where the bees lay their eggs. The children found it quiet disgusting that the bees create honey out of nectar and their spit. Today in our shopping order arrived a piece of honeycomb. We closely inspected the honeycomb and could see the wax hexagons. The children used their senses to further learn about honeycomb, this included smelling it and tasting it.
