05.01.2022 The grape picking this year has now been completed in very mild picking conditions. Unfortunately, conditions have note been that favourable for fruiting this season, with a lot of bunches being wasted due to poor fruit set. The year 10s need to be congratulated with their perseverance as the yield on the first day was low with picking being very slow. Approximately 180kg of good fruit was put into the bins that day. The quality and quantity was better on day 2 and the year 1...1s successfully harvested approximately 170 kg off the two rows. The total harvest is about half of what was picked last year and we hope that the winemaker’s response is reasonable when the fruit arrives at Waite Institute. Thanks to all of the students who worked in a determined fashion and to the other supporters who helped in any way, in particular Mr Roberts, Rob O’Reilly, Tom McCarthur, Dave Martin and Bill Riley. It was also nice to see the interest shown by the Year 4/5 class when they visited the vines during the harvest. - Ian Picken Year 10 Science and Year 11 Biology Teacher

03.01.2022 Acquaintance Night will occur on Tuesday night from 5.00pm, with all classes open and teachers available for parents to meet between 5.00pm and 6.00pm. A shared tea (free sausage sizzle - please bring a salad) and live music will be provided by our students and Radio Station Crew (Bayside FM) in the Middle School Courtyard from 6.00pm till 6.30pm. Presentations of the School Representative Council (SRC) members and House Captains will occur after tea from 6.30pm. ... At 7.00pm the school’s AGM will be held in the Library everyone is welcome to attend. Governing Council currently has four vacancies to fill for this year, and at this point, there have not been a lot of nominations for these positions. I would ask that you please consider nominating someone who you feel will represent the views and needs of the entire parent body in a balanced and constructive manner.

01.01.2022 Senior School News The excitement is certainly mounting as Swimming Carnival fast approaches. This year Senior School students had the opportunity to apply for the position of House Captains. There was an extremely high level of applications so a massive congratulations to everyone who put their ‘hat in the ring.’ Well done to Marni Gilmore, Rose Lee, Lily Legovini, Jake McEvoy, Leroy Johnson and Mace Van Weenen who have won the prestigious role of House Captains for 2013. I ...know they will be fantastic role models for our school and for the houses they represent. Karen Box has run a fabulous campaign to entice our students to join SRC. As a result we have a dynamic team of students who will be the voice of our Senior School. Congratulations to Alysha Coombs (President), Rose Lee (Vice-President), Jess Davies (Secretary), Shannon Morgil-Stafford (Treasurer) and committee members Sam Moore, Sonya Neal, Lily Legovini, Tori Cronin, Marni Gilmore, Rochelle Hein, Hayley Miller and Alex Clark. Lessons are in full swing with everything from grape picking, cabinet making, design, research, essays, mathematical equations and surfing on offer. Our students are engaged, working hard and are displaying true signs as leaders across the school. They should be very proud of their conduct so far. A reminder to all re Mobile Phones. We are aware that mobiles are a vital part of our society, particularly to the lives of young people. We do, however, have a policy which states that all mobile phones are to be kept out of sight whilst students are at school. This will remain the case unless students are using their phones at the teachers request for a task they are working on. During the latter part of the year there will be a review of this policy; however, until this time we ask everyone to support the policy as it stands. Lastly, we look forward to seeing all parents at the Acquaintance night on Tuesday. It is a fabulous opportunity to catch up with teachers, see where your child spends their day and have a look at the work they are doing at the moment. Some of our students will be showcasing their musical talent so it would be great to share this with you too. - Kirri Minnican
