12.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE TO PATIENT ASSISTANCE TRANSPORT SCHEME ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA The Patient Assistance Transport Scheme, or PATS for short, provides subsidies to S...outh Australians who are required to travel more than 100km each way to access necessary and approved medical specialist services that are not available locally. We are excited to announce that there have been some changes to the PATS eligibility criteria, as part of the state government’s commitment to improve access to health services. The following changes will provide PATS clients and their escorts with more flexibility in accessing subsidies to attend medical specialist services: - If you require an emergency retrieval, your approved escort will now be subsidised to travel separately. - You can now receive a commercial accommodation subsidy when staying in an Airbnb. - Your actual treatment location will be used to calculate your fuel subsidy. - If you are medically authorised for air travel, you will be able to be reimbursed an additional part land subsidy for travel over 100km to reach the nearest airport. - Your escort will be able to work interstate if you have travelled for treatment not available locally.
