17.01.2022 NSW UBC Teams preview for 2021 Engadine Cougars Players: Mason Lewis, Craig Donaldson, Daniel Scanlan.... The Engadine Cougars are the recent newcomers into the Ultimate Bowls Championship. The powerhouse Sydney club has a rich history of achievements and will be a force in the UBC in 2021. Young gun Mason Lewis heads their campaign in the first Ultimate Bowls Week, with inform front end player Craig Donaldson and the talented Daniel Scanlan forming a very competitive team. One thing is for sure, the match between Engadine and The Point is a must see, local arch rivals going head to head will be a beauty. Finals is a possibility, particularly towards the end week of the week as they experience the unique UBC format of play. Sapphire Coast Dolphins Players: Michael Wilks, Jay Breust, Ben Hubber. The Sapphire Coast Dolphins are looking forward to their first year in the UBC. Former Australian representative and bowls legend Michael Wilks joins the talented duo of NSW's Jay Breust and Victorian Ben Hubber. Wilks has an incredible bowls brain and will no doubt have the required plans ready to put in place. This team is compatible, extremely flexible and ready to go. May fly under the radar at times, and playing finals should be achievable. The Point Players: David Axon, Ali Forsyth, Mike Nagy. One of the standout teams in the inaugural year of UBC, with New Zealand star player Ali Forsyth showing his class. The "welsh wizard" David Axon was also outstanding and will be looking to repeat that performance in the 2021 season. Former Kiwi International Mike Nagy is back at The Point and will be a leading force. A very strong outfit yet again. The Point should be playing in all finals, and another victory is a big chance. Warilla Gorillas Players: Aaron Teys, Corey Wedlock, Jeremy Henry. The Warilla trio of Teys, Wedlock and Henry is as strong as it gets. Three brilliant players who know each other’s style of play and they know what it takes. After not getting an event victory in 2021, there will be some hunger there and they will be looking to bring success to their 2021 UBC campaign. The young superstars Teys and Wedlock are two of Australia's best and add in the experience and class of the Irish champ Henry, they are $1.01 to make it through to all finals. We're expecting the Gorillas to win at least one event on their home carpet in August. Next week we head across the ditch and provide an insight into our New Zealand friends, the South Island Storm and the Wellington Hornets.

15.01.2022 Queensland UBC Teams preview for 2021 Broadbeach Lions Players: Ryan Bester, Ryan Burnett, Kevin Anderson.... The China owned Broadbeach Lions UBC team is stacked with International talent, led by one of the World's best in Ryan Bester. Bester, known for his outstanding results in Singles, will partner up with his Broadbeach club teammates in young Scottish duo Ryan Burnett and Kevin Anderson. Burnett was in outstanding for the inaugural UBC season, and with Anderson (replacing Sean Ingham) giving the Lions options, a highly successful year is likely for this powerful Lions trio. Tipping they will make at least one final, who agrees? Exodas Players: Aron Sherriff, Nathan Rice, Sean Ingham. Once again, Exodas will go into the year as one of the early favourites. Any team including Australian star Aron Sherriff will be tough to beat. Club Helensvale teammate Nathan Rice will provide excellent backup, as will Broadbeach star player Sean Ingham. The selection of Ingham with pick 21 was a great pick, and one that we feel will pay dividends for the Exodas team. Can't wait for when Exodas clash with Broadbeach that's for sure, this will likely be a TV game so we can all watch the fireworks. Exodas will be making the finals at all events, and we expect them to go deep. How far can the Exodas boys go in 2021? ITP QLD Players: Sean Baker, John Newell, Jade Groenewege. ITP Queensland were outstanding at the 2nd event of 2019, after a slow start in the first event, the boys from ITP dominated at Deer Park before going down in semi-final defeat to the Dandenong Club. They were disappointed in losing Australian star player Corey Wedlock to the Warilla Gorillas, but his replacement Jade Groenewege is a smart pick. Queensland champion Sean Baker and in-form front end star John Newell have enjoyed a string of state title victories with Groenewege which will hold this team in good stead. Compatibility is massive in our sport, and this team has it in spades. Look for ITP QLD to make at least one finals series at Warilla. If Baker fires, so will ITP QLD. North Qld Roos Players: Shannon Mcilroy, Brett Wilkie, Damien McGee. New Zealand World Champion Shannon Mcilroy will be looking for a huge 2021 campaign, as will former Aussie star Brett Wilkie. Big things were expected for the Roos in 2019, and it's fair to say they underperformed and North Qld team owner and player Damien McGee will be doing everything he can to ensure the Roos are back playing finals in 2021. They are too good not to be playing on the big stage, look for kiwi gun Mcilroy to fire on the back of signing a long term deal with Henselite. Weipa Crocs Players: Jo Edwards, Karen Murphy, Chloe Stewart. Wow! Where do we start? The Crocs star trio bring approximately 1500 International caps between them, plus almost every major title on the world bowls calendar. New Zealand's Jo Edwards is a star, and for the first time she will be partnering with long term rival and close friend Karen Murphy. It's going to be great viewing watching two of the greatest female players of all time wearing the same colours, and when you can add in the in-form Australian young gun Chloe Stewart, there is plenty to be excited about if you are a Weipa Crocs fan. Finals - yes! Next week we have a close look at the New South Wales based teams. We'd love to hear your comments on these teams!

15.01.2022 New Zealand UBC Teams preview for 2021 South Island Storm Players: Andrew Kelly, Richard Collett, Bronwyn Stevens.... The South Island Storm head into the 2021 UBC year with confidence after a very successful final event at the Moama Bowling Club. New Zealand International Andrew Kelly will be their player to spearhead the Storm's campaign after being selected with the 3rd pick overall in the UBC Draft. Star New Zealand players Richard Collett and Bronwyn Stevens were selected with picks 31 and 35 respectively. Collett will bring a wealth of experience, and we saw how well Stevens adapted to the UBC concept and she will be one of the players to watch. Will be competitive in all events, and a forward showing in finals is highly likely. Wellington Hornets Players: David Ferguson, Gary Lawson, Mike Kernaghan The Wellington Hornets are one of the most interesting teams in the Ultimate Bowls Championship. They were arguably the most impressive team in the first event of year only just falling short in the semi-final against event winners, The Dandenong Club. Unfortunately, things changed and the results fall away after that but many expect the Hornets to hit back hard in the 2021 season. Australian gun David Ferguson was their pre-selected player, with one of New Zealand's all-time greats in Gary Lawson selected with pick 10. Look for Lawson to set the tone and put in a big performance in the first lot of events at Warilla. One of the steals in the draft would have to be their 3rd player, New Zealand International Mike Kernaghan with pick 32 from the draft. Kernaghan is an experienced front end player who is likely to suit the UBC points system. Will be playing finals in all three events, it's just a matter of how far they can go?

14.01.2022 Streaky Bay bowlers enjoyed local crayfish and chips from Streaky Bay Marine Products for lunch. Hopefully we get catered this well at our week long tournament next year. I’m sure it will make us bowl well.

03.01.2022 The legend himself is conducting bowls clinics. Perfect for those wanting to aspire to a game in the UBC.
