24.01.2022 For those who don't know me, I am a father of 5, yes you read that right I have 5 kids, 4 girls and one boy. I am a kiwi who moved over with my partner so she could be closer to her family, on my fathers side his father was Australian born, so was his parents, and their parents were immigrants from England. I have two brothers (in NZ) and one sister (in the USA).... I love to do activities with my kids, I love watching a good show with Gem, and I love to game on PC or Xbox. I have been well known through my life as a Mister Helper, I have learnt with age to regulate that a bit, but it still gives me joy to see someone happy. As my previous post I have been in the industry a long time, I have done some breaks along the way, minor, but very different jobs. I do enjoy knowing how things work, and how they pull apart, it's the analyst in me I guess. The most annoying thing I do, I got stuck on this one so I asked Gem, I got told "I decline to comment for fear it may incriminate me"....... perhaps for another post. On a side note I do like recycling items, I often try to get computers broken down into components, so the least amount goes into the rubbish and the rest to the recyclers.

16.01.2022 Hey everyone, I thought based on my events last week I want to mention the power of second tier recycle bins. This means after you delete (or clean up) something from your recycle bin, the files are sent to a second recycle bin (for your admins eyes only) instead of being deleted. A good tech can get data back from an empty recycle bin but it becomes a race to get it back. A recycle bin doesn’t have to be the one you see on your computer, it can also be in your emails. Three ...big reasons for a second recycle bin: 1. Disgruntled staff - at some stage you will get a staff member with a grudge, if they start deleting data or cleaning recycle bins. The second tier recycle bin fixes that as only the admin in most cases can only see it. 2. Whoopies - lets be honest, we all do it, deleting something that was important but you didn’t realise until later, then the day comes when you clean your recycle bin, and as Murphy’s Law will have it you want it back. 3. Viruses - there are viruses out there that will delete your data, empty recycle bins. It’s not so common as most good anti-virus checkers can stop it. There are other alternatives, such as backups, but I have found a good structure makes recovery faster and more efficient, constantly going back to your primary backup is slow and time consuming. The idea is to get you back to work faster without losing any data. This all falls under the umbrella of risk mitigation, the better or more secure your information is, the less risk you will lose it all. Here are a few things I've done this week. - Cleaned up two small rack mounted - DUO adjustments and testing onsite. - Updated Handitax after hours for one of my accountants. - Minor 365 adjustments for some clients. - Set up and gave brief training on 365 for a client. - Assisted a client with security concerns with staff. - Updated a PC to a solid states making it much faster. - Assisted Covetrus with Vision updates for one of my vets. Thanks every one for your support. If you haver any questions please feel free to post it.

16.01.2022 The changes we're making to combat COVID-19, and the products we use to empower our clients to work from home! With all the news about the Coronavirus circling I thought it would be a good idea to tell people how I'm going to help guide my clients through this situation. My focus is to rely more on remote services. I already use an application called Team Viewer to access clients off-site, the big change will come through focusing more on educating clients and stepping them ...through this process. I am much faster when in person or have direct remote access to all platforms, however, due to concerns of COVID-19 and its spread via close contact with people; phone and Team Viewer (off-site) options are preferable. My clients already use some form of remote platform. - Office 365 for Emails, SharePoint, and One Drive storage. - DUO two-factor phone authentication to access company Servers. - BitDefender antivirus security is also running to help protect against computer viruses. - Acronis backup for a secondary cloud based backup. - And the option to go for a 3CX phone system and take their extension with them where ever they go. These products and solutions empower clients to work from home, safely, and securely. If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to drop me an email, text, or call.

10.01.2022 Welcome everyone to my Facebook page, I look forward to engaging all customers in a more up to date way.

09.01.2022 Take your phone extension home with 3CX, read on to know how? 3CX is a modern phone system to free yourself from the bottleneck of your old phones, it gives flexibility and is cheap to run. I have successfully tested an external call through my work number (3CX), and picked up that call on my mobile using the 3CX Application out on the farm! This means someone has called my work number, then selected my extension. Normally with most common phone systems it would call my landl...ine at work, however, with 3CX it can be set to call the landline AND your 3CX phone application on your mobile. One better you don’t even need a phone, you can use your web browser. If you think that's cool then you have to know this other little gem, you can also unplug your phone from work and plug it into your home Internet. I was thinking about the potential, there are lots of people who work from home from time to time, there is no easy way to transfer a call from work to your home phone without a lot of background work done. Having your own extension at home gives greater flexibility, with all the benefits of a modern phone system. It gets better, if you’re a smaller business needing only 4 or 8 simultaneous calls at any given time, then you don’t need to pay for a Professional or Enterprise license for one year, and during the COVID-19 crisis they are offering new sign ups can get 3 years! 3CX has a standard license, which means you only pay for the phone system to run in the cloud for as little at $3.50USD per month plus your phone number (SIP trunk) from any local provider. Click the URL below to see your pricing model to suit. https://www.3cx.com/ordering/pricing/ Last month I paid $1.63AUD to run everything in the cloud (partial month) to run four extensions (and I can go to 25), then $30AUD to a local provider for my phone number. I still keep encountering clients who are running old phones and recently paid full price, all because their phone company told them this is the way to go, then I hear the complaints that things don’t work, or have issues, or can’t pick up transferred calls from another phone. The list goes on.. and on.. Everything has now moved to the cloud, this means every phone, system uses VoIP, or some variation, you can no longer (or limited ability) buy an old phone line. If you, or someone you know is interested then give me a call on (02) 5504-5772 extension 01. Remember to keep safe, and keep well.

06.01.2022 Did you know we recycle? That's right! The parts we can't restore and reuse, we recycle! We take your old computers, laptops, general electronics and break down all recyclable materials. Anything left over is a lot less into our general waste.

04.01.2022 I was going to announce today at BNI that after much consideration, I have decided to open myself up to Home Support. For the rest of this month and March I am offering home support for a maximum capped fee of $200, this means if it takes me longer, or I have to take the PC away you will only pay $200. This is for home support only and excludes business.... For additional information call me or message.

02.01.2022 Hey everyone, I know I haven't posted for a while, but I promise to start posting something every Friday, and today I want to put in some basic things I've done so you get an idea of some of the jobs I work on, and what a week it's been. I think the highlight has been the series of successful fixes under 15 minutes, there has certainly been work over the 15 but on the most part it's a good feeling I can get people into their working day with minimum disruption. Here are a few... things I've done this week. - I sold a laptop and did the installation and set up onsite. - iPad set up to a client's business profile. - Handitax updated to the latest version for one of my Accountants. - Patch Panel tidy up for one of my clients, the cables were very messy, and now not. - A client needed their phone set up to their business email. - Set up a new DUO two factor account for a client with 5 users, and deployed. - Fixed an issue with a client with an IMAP email account that was not working correctly. - A new reception printer sold and set up for 15 users. What I think has worked so well this week, is I have my clients nice and tidy. A tidy computer and network makes it quicker for the tech to make corrections and fix any common issue. This basically translates into a more effective work day and less down time. After all, do you really want a tech who takes over your computer, or office for an entire day, then back again, and again..? Or do you want a tech who will work on making sure you systems work well.

01.01.2022 Little Tips I had an issue today, something that I’ve found a lot of people get when they mix MYOB and OneDrive. For some reason MYOB sends OneDrive into a looping upload (sending to the cloud) where it finishes uploading one file, then it does the same file again, and again, and again, etc.... The primary data is a file called "Clearwater", which is just a make believe company with example data, so nothing that’s needed for most people. When you install MYOB, or any upgrade, and you are using OneDrive to save your Documents folder offsite, then you just need to make a small adjustment, or call me. If you don’t, then your OneDrive will slow down your Internet as the loop doesn’t stop, and it will affect your cloud-based recovery options. ** If you or anyone else has any questions that you want me to answer then feel free to send me a private message. Thanks Keith
