25.01.2022 At SQP we dont measure our success by others fails and you rarely see us posting about retunes. But this VDJ200 is an exception. it was just so bad... A few months back we did this customers fathers car...so impressed were they with the calibrations they booked their already tuned rig in. Complaints were it was shifting harsh after a trans tune blah blah. So...quick run up on the dyno for some data and it didnt look too bad early in the run but further analysis of the log s...aw it ripping fuel out like no tomorrow...another run and where did the power go? The tune had ripped a bunch of fuel out and power was hopeless. Flashed in a standard OEM calibration- power was right there run after run. It was clear to see where the errors in the calibration strategy were but boost makes power right?? LOL! Fuelling all over the show... In went a SQP calibration and out of the rollers it climbed! Great power improvement run after run. Full trans calibration and test drive followed and it is one cool ride eating the highway! Harsh shifting eliminated blah blah. Not all tunes are created equal....
24.01.2022 There is no secret about how much SQP love VFII LS3 Commodores. And today we had another peach through. Jess searched high and low to find a clean low km Redline in Manual. Manual? Yeah she wanted the cog swapper even with it being used mostly around town. Wheeled it into SQP for our stage 1 exhaust, OTR and tune package. Now the SQP package is built upon our custom MANTA supplied cat back and SQP headers. This is the highest flowing straight path system on the market. And t...he results speak for them self. 1 3/4" best shaped primaries keeping gas velocity high and efficient scavenging of the cylinders sees this combo give the best compromise of low end response and top end charge. As proven in PVF one and two... this small pipe combo is the fastest of all pipe sizes. Jess wanted bimodal too so we ticked that box. Onto the strainer and a speed density SQP calibration applied using EFILive and GM coefficient tuning for superior AFR control and it put over 420hp to the tyres! Outstanding! Check out the AFR...no PE table manipulation to get that dead flat AFR control!
24.01.2022 No better way to wrap up a big week than to finally get a long term project over the line. Nathans Sportwagon has been in the shop having tested the patience here with sorting issues left behind by the prior "builder". The car came to us with broken Jesel rockers near 2 years back. Nathan was lost having spent the equivalent of the national debt of a Middle America republic on his dream project. He asked if we would take it on and sort it for him. He got me on a weak day....... Anyhow- we removed the motor and went through it. The solid roller cam in the mid 270s at .050" was removed and a SQ designed hydraulic reinstalled to the LSX block. The short motor was freshened with the addition of Callies Dragonslayer crank ans Oliver rods- out with the Lunati China pieces that were in there. The MAST LS7 head were given a birthday and PAC 1.25" diameter springs matched to the SQ hydraulic installed. So fast forward to a few weeks back. We fitted the bad boy up into his engine bay. Worked through numerous issues with plumbing, wiring and the likes. Belt drive re worked as it was being stripped on the tensioner bla bla. Unloader was moved to the compressor side of the intercooler and a second 50mm unloader installed on the manifold side. Injectors change to something more realistic to the power desired. Road test followed. Time for some basic mapping on the SQP dyno...part throttle ramps covers it was time to let it eat! Well eat it did! The 30mm belt proved to be inadequate on the second pull with the cell getting a tasty treat of teeth and strapping! Great thing about it was it put a wheel spinning 880hp to the rollers letting us know we had something coming. Factory E38 ECU tuned with Efilive. So 50mm idler and belt sourced from CAPA (thanks Scotty!!) and onto the hubs at Tune Corp (thanks for your time this arvo Shannon). Total of 3 runs saw the Wagooon put 1008hp to the hubs through a stupid loose convertered T400 eating 18psi of boost! Anything that cracks 1000 is exciting and this thing is something to roll the throttle into! Long post but it was a hell of a story! #SQPbuilt #SQPtuned #SQPtough!
24.01.2022 There is an old say... Poor man pays twice. Sadly for Jeremy this was the third time he had changed the cats on his Asian bargain exhaust. Luckily it never cost him and engine...
23.01.2022 Many have been waiting quietly as we worked our way through the GUN Hilux code. Some weeks ago the shop ute got a work out on the dyno and the results were impressive. Being a auto vehicle, we first calibrated the trans to lock itself in 4th gear with the TCC engaged. some baseline OEM runs were done and careful calibration followed. Now this is as delivered OEM standard car. No Exhaust. No airbox...nothing. DPF intact and functioning.... Standard it put 129hp to the rears...always thought it was gutless...well that confirmed it! Factory rated at 130kw puts 128hp to the tyre. Thati s the same loss through the drivetrain we have seen for 20 years with OEM flywheel numbers. Essentially the kw rating at flywheel is seen in hp at the tyres- a loss of 34%. Tuned it picked up a respectable 25% increase in horsepower topping out at a back to back repeatable 164rwhp. This was achieved with a clean 17:1 AFR as measured on our laboratory spec calibrated Lambda meter. Torque gains were also in the 25% region. Interesting thing here is the factory rate these at 450nm. Well set up dyno and what did we see? 450nm converted back to the flywheel! So...we are working through the auto code as we speak. It is a jumble of adaptive shifts mixed with typical logic and will be taking a while to get through. Great news for the manual guys though...we are taking booking on those as we speak. Auto guys...stay tuned.
23.01.2022 HOW ROLLING ROAD DYNOS WORK. Basically the dyno places a resistance to the vehicles engine via the wheels and measure the force applied with a load cell. In the case of most common dynos it provides this resistance via eddy current retarders. All the rotational mass of the dyno (mass moment of inertia) is used in the calculations plus the what measured at the arm to come up with the final number shown in the reporting screen....Continue reading
22.01.2022 So what else is there to do on a rainy Saturday once you have delivered all the customer cars promised out this week? Get on the dyno with the bad beast! Most will remember the posts a few weeks back with Shanes 468" RHS LS7 VFII. Now it isnt often you run up true N/A badness but this thing is as angry and rides the rollers like a PD blown 6L! 400hp at the treads on roll on through an unlocked 4200rpm converter on road tyres...ramps up to the final numbers in the mid 550s o...n pump 98. Tough car...Shane keeps asking "Do you think it will run a 10?" Iam...pffftttt.... Enjoy! It is never a day at work when you play with stuff like this...
21.01.2022 Going to be one heck of an exciting 2021 with Project VFBoosted... Get ready to rumble. But we have some stuff to clear the decks with in the last half of 2020... so stay tuned.
21.01.2022 So... only one taker for centrifugal blower!! And I reckon he cheated!!
20.01.2022 Just got this messaged through from one of our Landcruiser 200 customers. Justin got our SQP custom ECU and TCM tow package for his 20i8 VDJ. He is presently on his way back from doing the Kimberleys towing a 2800 kg camper and car load of kit. Here he is running through the Chichester Ranges out from Kirigini. Long climb up the Range...S4 selected. Converter locked via TCM it is eating the highway! See attached photo for data and check out the converter temp!!
20.01.2022 HOW IS THIS FOR A BLAST FROM THE PAST?? Back in 2004 when most were still reading about fast LS in Street Commodores, this bad black Monaro was wrecking records and breaking hearts. Australia's quickest and fastest supercharged LS no less! SQP hand built 382" LS backed with 4L60E trans and topped with a early Whipple charger, this Chipmaster tuned weapon went [email protected]! Still a decent effort all these years later.... The slush-o-matic is gone from it and a T56 onboard- it was in for a clutch change out... #SQP #innovators #builtnotbought #realworldresults
20.01.2022 Old school cool...new school style.
19.01.2022 The number of these rigs we get through is no laughing matter! Last week we had a couple of as new units through for remapping. Check out the results from this VDJ79. Only upgrade being a single 3" exhaust. Factory snorkel with spinner. Ready for outback touring.... Got a VDJ79 you need mapped? Give us a call.
18.01.2022 The SQP heart and soul lies at the foot of building some of the baddest engines using the best parts available. And then assembling those parts to a standard second to none! With over 30 years engine building and 20 years on LS platform- there isn't much that hasn't been through the SQP engine room. With the shop so busy it is hard to find the time to get these monsters together... but check out this beast.... Dart Next, Oliver, Callies Magnum, Diamond, Comp Cams, Rollmaster, Moroso, ARP, Clevite- this MOFO has at all. Keep and eye open for this builds progress.
18.01.2022 Mark ordered his new VDJ79 back in March...it has been quite the journey getting it delivered and into SQP for the required mods! So...spankers new with 600km on the clock, we ran it up. 142rwhp was the results. Next...on with a Manta turbo back stainless 3" system . Back on the rollers 152hp at the tyres. A gain but not what some would have you believe. A quick look at the torque shows how artificial that curve is- it is totally controlled to give what the engineers ask. Tim...e to get in to the ECU. Carefully working through the code, the results are impressive with a clean AFR. Now the torque curve looks like what an engine would make- not the manicured flattened down offering from Toyota! Have fun with the new work ute Mark. All done before Christmas after all!!
17.01.2022 We never get tired of selling and speccing up these things. MAST medium bore LS3 loaded with the best heading out the door with a cam to suit. Supply is tight but SQP have great stocks...lucky as they are selling like hot cakes at the present.
16.01.2022 Rob has been towing his van around the state with his lock up box equipped cruiser. He called from Exmouth "does your stuff do all you say automatically?" "Yes Sir" was the reply. "Book me in." he said. So Monday was D day. He stood at the counter explaining to us what he was having to do to get his 4000kg GVM upgraded VDJ200 moving on the highway. Pushing buttons on and off blah blah. Now the man is a diesel mechanic of many years experience. He isnt a dill when it comes to... operating machines. Only staying with the full OEM DPF exhaust system, we went a little softer on tune but it got the full monty in the TCM. Here is his response via email. It tells the rest of the story from here... "Hi John, Just towed the van down to Busselton. OK, as far as the power goes, yeah maybe i can notice it a little but nothing really outstanding when in D. In S i notice the extra torque especially with the van on and when i get lock up. It will pull from 75kmhish in S4 locked up and then slip into S5 locked up no issues. It will hold S5 wayyyy longer and i think im already seeing about a 2L/100 average fuel saving. The car is a lot easier to drive with the van on now as the TCU does all of the stuff i was trying to do manually with the "edit - lock box" etc so, yep, all good. give me another week or so and ill get back to you with an update. Happy days" Pure calibration...above says it all.
16.01.2022 So what gets the most votes?? The BBQ bonnet burner or the side mount??
16.01.2022 Even Minespec needs some SQP Spec...
16.01.2022 So where is this Bad boy going?? Stay tuned....
16.01.2022 Well we put some Sports into the Cat today... Done hundred of these Colorados now and just love the way they respond to some good tuning without having to manipulate tables. No aftermarket parts near this thing at all...std exhaust blah blah. Trans tune transforms how they drive.... Best $1460 you can spend on these things bar nothing!
16.01.2022 Followers often see me show my love for Duramax Diesels and GM Code. Here is another example... Kim bought a second hand truck for his Mrs. It went like stink compared to his tray back so he hunted down the tuner of it to get the work truck sorted.... That tuner was SQP! So he made the trip down from Exxy. We got a custom 4"stainless steel system made for it that made light of some mufflers etc... Once completed it was onto the dyno for a baseline. Now 285rwhp is no sook power when it is all in at 3600rpm but SQP/Duramax Calibrations Australia worked though the code and pushed it to just north of 400rwhp! We dont often post AFRs and the likes with our post as we prefer others to work stuff out themselves but a dead steady and CLEAN 17:1 was where we left it with just on 1000ft/lb of torque on tap! All through a single 4" exhaust....go figure. This isnt a mail order tune but a calibration put together by SQP in house. We then turned our attention to the Allison 6 speed and treated that to some calibration loving! Needless to say- the truck has come alive!
15.01.2022 Running the treat mill at SQP has gotten crazy through COVID...heavy workload and much more admin to keep handled with part supply and freight being a real chore. But it is always great to end the week on a high note. Some will remember Bens VFII from a couple of years back when we fitted it up with a stout SQP416 LS3 based build and Harrop 2650 blower. Putting over 900 to the hubs on an independent dyno...it was a mean ride. Well many sets of tyres later, Ben has decided to... put that combo into a track dedicated ride leaving a gaping hole in the Redline. So we put the factory LS3 back in which was loaded with a SQ54 camshaft package. Now Ben loves that manual car for ripping up the streets so we couldnt go too soft on it. A Harrop FDFI2300 blower was installed with it running on corn seeing as there was a SQP twin pump set up in the tank. Reusing the Bosch Motorsport super fast 1650cc injector we set about tuning the E38 in speed density using EFILive. Now we had to have some Ben Factor (another which is a bit hard on the equipment!) in the mix so it was decided to keep the boost soft being that the LS3 was still a standard bottom end. One of the offshoots of PVFBoost has been our 8 rib in loop drive. With a good tracking belt maintained by SQP designed and made idlers and HD tensioner we are able to see dead pan steady boost and number above what is expected with moderate pulley sizes. Match it up to a great cam design and we are able to move some air! How did it go? Well a super soft "Ben Factor" tune in and an easy 700rwhp came straight up through the Michelin tyres! Not bad for a basic combo with a nice blower! Check out the torque! We constantly giggle at the diesel game saying you need a twin 3" to make 250hp out of their oilers...Seems a twin 3 " can deliver near 3x that and near a thousand NM of torque from 2200rpm to 7200 rpm redline. Go figure!!
15.01.2022 Well we did say obnoxious...
14.01.2022 Nice gains out of the DMax straight up this morning... No "chip boxes" - all ECU code. Up 50% on HP and torque...it was worth the drive from Carnarvon!
11.01.2022 These Landcruiser 200s seem to just breed in the car park...then there is the VDJ70s and on... Had a bunch through this week for remaps on ECU and the game changing SQP TCM remap. Terry brought his down from Gero. He had it mapped previous;y with some naughty mods to the exhaust. He wasnt sure if he could tell the difference in power before and after so we did some sighting runs on the dyno and then flashed in a std cal...well the difference wasnt much! Seen chips do more f...or less!! A whole 7rwhp gain over OEM!! Got into the cal with some SQP goodness and a clean 20% was on the table. Up 100nm to boot! TCM remap with revised shifts points and lock up as well as SQP tow mode and down the highway it heads! Bring on next week...
11.01.2022 Round out the end of a hectic week with a FB post? Why not!! Lee made the journey from Gero to SQP to get his Duramax One tuned. Nothing unusual about that really but this one is a little special as he had fitted up a upgrade turbo with bigger injectors. So how do you map a turbo that is going to push an atmosphere more boost than the OEM sensor was engineered for? With some custom code is how! Not only does the turbo need to be controlled but the larger injector needs to be ...calibrated to the demand of the engine and airflow provided by that bad boy turb! How did we go? Into the Bosch ECU we jumped, added hardware and software parameter added and the calibration began. It is often said that Bosch code is written by aliens...well the way we see some hacked it is like they were edited by vikings!! Diesel operate with "free air" and AFR is nowhere near as critical for best power calibrating as it is with petrol. Small percentages in AFR variation in petrol engine lead to fluctuations in power and potential engine damage...we aim for a AFR withing .2 of and AFR. Diesel is on injected quantities and a lean condition isnt going to result in over heated pistons etc. The opposite is the case! They typically run into AFRs that petrols would be melted messes from. But it is nice to calibrate to a flat line! Safe, clean AFRs and 35 psi of boost coming in strong early- check out the afrs early in the run...who says you need to be fuelly to drive a turbo?? Drives like a beast!! NPC clutch grabbing hold of the torque and putting it to the drivetrain. Tough jigger for a Early RG!
11.01.2022 Proving once again that innovative products that are delivering what is promised is what markets desire SQP has been to the wall with VDJ200s over the last few weeks. This week - no exception. We had a bunch through and need to thank Manta Performance Exhaust for their efforts with supplying what we needed in this hectic time. Varying from some early OS to near new 2020 DPF complete models they all rocked in for our industry leading TCM calibration and Tow Mode upgrades. Powe...r is easy...they all jump up nicely but it is the TCM calibration that sets this apart from what others have on offer. No over ride boxes to operate the torque converter clutch, just pure calibration utilising torque and load conditions to govern when and how the converter is locked and what gears to do so in. We thank those that are waiting patiently for these upgrades. Because of the amount of road test and validation that is required to ensure the calibration is doing as we demand without causing the engine to lug and impact on driving conditions, it takes a load of time longer than a few dyno runs and a lap around the block and showing the customer where the lock up switch is! Every VDJ gets a test run up a dedicated course with different driving conditions simulated and experience whilst logging via OBD2. When you pick it up...it it doing what we programmed it to do...tested and validate on dyno AND the road! Quality before quantity is the SQP way! Another busy week next week...
10.01.2022 SQP the World. Looking to get the best in Toyota calibrations and you are in SA?? Hit up Simon and the crew at Morpowa! They are on the job.
10.01.2022 John Mar... It is alive!!
09.01.2022 So how is the 468" RHS SQP LS7 installation coming about? Well it is in and self aware. Tuning underway and all is good. Here are some pic of the process. LS3 out- Dominator converter fitted and 468 in!... SQP/Manta system on- bimodal intact. Rock and roll!
09.01.2022 So Jacob got a grumpy SQ54.5 fitted back in January. It woke his LS3 up putting 470 to the tyres and ticking the box of the grumpy idle he was after. But he always had wanted a blower. Was the SQ54.5 going to leak off too much boost with its grumpy valve events? Naah we reckoned. Wouldnt be our first choice for a blower cam but it will run! So hooked him up with one of Harrops finest FDFI2300 kits complete with SQP 8 rib drive set up.... Onto the rollers and the 80mm pulley pushed 9psi into the SBE LS3. That translated to 654rwhp through the manual transmission and spankers new tyres!! One obnoxiously grumpy car with attitude now!! Still thinking of a blower? Extending the special into October for those booked this month. $13495 drive in out fitted and tuned! Get on it!
08.01.2022 So this is the tale of 2 engines... One is Dans blown standard stroke build. Starting life as a basic L77 in a VF...this poor block had no idea where its journey in life would take it.... Wanting to get going in the Red- v -blue radial wars, Dan came to SQP after seeing what we were doing with PVFB. He wanted some of that for his XF! Surely that is a typo? Nope- XF Falccooon is getting a LSing with 2650 on top! Have a look through the pics of this neat build. The tale of engine 2 will follow soon..... #SQP #Mast #onlythebest #20psi #harrop2650 #builtnotbought
06.01.2022 Welcome to 2015...LOL Yep that is how long SQP have been retuning these to over that torque and more. Glad to see some catching up...
06.01.2022 Well we are a Harrop Dealer...
06.01.2022 Here is a clue....
04.01.2022 How good is a Harrop 2300? Well check this out...Ben had SQP fit a SQ54 cam and DOD delete to his VF L77 near on exactly two years back. He saw our 2300 special and reckoned game on. Booked in for last 6 weeks we got on it this week. Targeting a soft 580rwhp through his manual trans drivetrain we went for a soft pulley combo of 85mm to hold down boost via the SQP inloop drive.... Even with a lazy 81/2psi down its throat, the SQ54 moved enough air to kick over 630hp to the tyres! So how do you add 180hp to your cammed L77? Just add a Harrop FDFI2300! Time for another special? Hell yeah. We will extend the previous special with a limit on 4 kits. $13495 drive away! Get on it!!
03.01.2022 We normally tell those with new rigs to go put a few 1000km on them to make sure they are happy to start modding. Best way to protect all in warrenty issues early on. Anthony tried...but having been driving a SQP modded VDJ200 for last 6 years he lasted 600 odd km! LOL! So onto the dyno to document the changes...in with a locked TCC tune to make it hold 4th on the dyno for true comparisons. Baseline runs - 194rwhp. Decent for brand spanker! While it was there we decided to tu...ne it with full factory OEM standard DPF exhaust on. Not surprisingly the power ended up where a DPF system goes but too quiet!! 234rwhp. Came in early this morning and fitted up a "lightened" exhaust system in twin 2.5" to single 3" with a 4" dump. Back on the dyne for some more power runs and tune touch up...the results were pleasing...whilst only showing a gain of 11hp at peak, the power under the curve was up by 40hp in places! A great gain for the $$. SQP custom TCM tune in the trans and the 2020 is totally transformed!
03.01.2022 John saw our Harrop 2300 FDFI Special and launched onto it! Had to wait in line for a bit to get in but it was worth the journey! Now John is a long term customer on SQP and he is rather hard on the gear to put it mildly. His mafless car was able to break stuff we rarely see done over but he got the job done!... So...with a blower upgrade it was decided to do the best we could on drive etc to see this thing out of the street! SQP developed inloop drive set up from PVFBoosted was employed! Now John not only wanted some boost but he wanted it to eat...so a SQ54 cam was installed and a DOD delete carried out on the L77 engine. Onto the strainer and traction through the 4.1 Harrop Tru Trac rear was an immediate issue....but we got there. With a lazy 9psi downs its throat, the 6L pushed over 640 through the 6 speed trans to the disgruntled tyres!! All yours later tomorrow John....bet you cant sleep...LOL
02.01.2022 Well everything isnt about VDJ200 at SQP! Still lots of slick LS stuff on the go. Saturday engine porn?... Super neat set of MAST MID cylinder heads going together for a solid roller road race build. Why solid roller when hydraulics go 8000rpm? Well hydraulics go 8000rpm when everything is perfect. Solid roller has a far wider tolerance giving the latitude needed for hundreds of kilometers or road racing. More build pics coming soon... #SQP #engineporn #MAST #Delwest #PSI #Isky #whenyouareseriousabout8000rpm
