22.01.2022 These two girls and their mother (not pictured) are currently boarding at Fairfield Road Vet Hospital. They have been desexed and vaccinated. We also have the five kittens from one of them. They have nowhere to go at present and therein lies the problem. If there are any people on here that have property, farms, agistment situations who would take the family on (minus kittens) to be mousers and ratters please please contact me.... Other than that, the girls look young enough to socialise if given the right circumstances and people willing to do it. Born as strays, they never had a choice in life. They were fed by an elderly lady who couldn't cope with them anymore due to illness and complaints from neighbors. Margaret

22.01.2022 I SAID no more photos!! Cricket being disturbed by my camera :)

22.01.2022 Is there anyone who hasn’t done this?

18.01.2022 We have had a very busy week, two events from left field to deal with but more on that at a later time. I have not had lots of time to work with the girls and Pepper still greets me with flat ears and a growl. That's o.k. Once the wand comes in to view, she seems to settle and enjoy what is happening. I haven't done much work on Penny but did so today and was amused to see Pepper turn around to watch her reaction.... I am told that Pickles is the mum of both girls. I don't know if true but if so she is mum to them and was mum to the five kittens also.#

18.01.2022 This lil guy is Garfield. He is one of 5 kittens which mumma cat Lily gave birth to a few weeks ago. Lily was rescued off the streets of Cabramatta when she was heavily pregnant. Lily and Garfield's siblings have been doing very well. She has been chowing down on Royal Canin Mother and babycat canned food - and kitties have started on it too. Garfield, on the otherhand, hasn't been able to compete for a feed against his bigger brothers and sisters so we've had to intervene. W...e've been supplementing him by giving him sub-q fluids to keep him well hydrated, probiotics to treat his diarrhea and special recovery food. He started off eating only 0.5ml of recovery food in one sitting to now eating 6ml of food - that's a great improvement. He still has a long way to go, but he's on his way to becoming a healthy bigger kitten. Donations are appreciated to help us continue to support growing hungry families like Lily's and care for lil ones like Garfield to give him the best chance in life.

17.01.2022 Simba returned to our vet yesterday for a test for Toxoplasmosis. Apparently the problem with his eyes is caused by HAWS syndrome but we want to rule out Toxoplasmosis in any case. The condition of his eyes is self limiting it is believed if this is indeed HAWS. Simba's though is a particularly bad case. Mostly his eyes are fully covered by the third eye.... https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx See more

17.01.2022 Anita is raising more funds for us and the work we do. We owe her so many thanks and what lovely items she is posting. I can feel. the Christmas Spirit seeping in. <3 Many thanks Anita.

16.01.2022 I can feel the itchy feet starting to be interested :). Might need a bigger bus though :)

09.01.2022 One of the situations from left field last week was the return of Simba. I was contacted by the people we vetted him for last year, asking for help. I was not impressed to say the least but in further talks it appears that Simba is a bit of a free spirit and refuses to stay indoors or on the property. He also went missing for a period of time and came back looking like this. Apparently they are dealing with a stray cat problem in that street and have had difficulty coping... with sick kittens being born to an uncatchable mother and daughter. We have promised to help by loaning traps and showing them what to do. Meanwhile John went to collect Simba once he had been secured in the house. Surprisingly he has been well fed by whoever had him, his body condition is very good, he is very happy although at this stage blind. The cause is his third eyelid which is covering both eyes. There is a tiny bit of eye showing at times right at the top corners. He spent two days in hospital, was sedated so that our vet Donna could have a better look and nothing was obvious. He had a blood test which was mostly normal with only one red marker. He was wormed twice as apparently intestinal issues can cause this too. He was FIV tested and is negative. He is currently at ours, crated. We are taking him back for another blood test for Toxoplasmosis. If positive we can treat that with antibiotics. If negative we wait a few weeks to see if it resolves on it's own as has happened with other cats on record apparently. If it doesn't we move into the area of a specialist consult. Once Simba is better we need a foster carer or an adaptor to take him on. He needs to be protected from his wandering ways. If anyone can donate to help us with Simba please contact us for our bank numbers or go here: https://www.catmintcottagestreetcatrescue.com.au/donate.html

05.01.2022 Another update on Anna. She plays quite a lot now! she's showing herself to be a sweetheart and I do find it surprising at the amount of progress she has made. Beginning to love the wand but nervous if I open the gate at the side. She's o.k. if I open the front one and will even let my hand put food in AND come to eat while it's there. Touching is next step but going slow.

04.01.2022 Revisiting our beautiful ex street cat named Frankie in her forever home. After a lifetime on the streets of Cabramatta N.S.W, having borne numerous litters that reportedly died in infancy, Frankie was rescued while heavily pregnant and just like our Mimi, her last litter was born in domesticity and survived. Frankie had six kittens, all beautiful babies, all soon adopted out. This time the little family were fed high quality food and Frankie was able to regain her health and... all her kittens survived. Frankie flew to Tasmania and landed on all four feet with Martin Connelly. Martin told me last night that Frankie loves cheese and the minute she hears him with the cheese she becomes a smoochy opportunist!! Many thanks to our member Linda and Uncle for the rescue, care and nurture of this girl. And her kittens I should add! I know it is no mean feat to look after a mum and kittens. Margaret

03.01.2022 Featuring Dexter...like the song says...'if that old gang of mine could see me now!' Dexter appeared in the street as a stray some couple of months back. Elizabeth Treccase took him home and appealed for donations to help him so we took him on. His makeover has been considerable. A dental with quite a few extractions, Entropian surgery for his eyes, vaccination, microchipping, Viral testing (yes he's FIV+) desexing, another sedation to groom his dreadlocks with a deep clean...! Dexter is available for adoption now. He's super friendly and affectionate. Please pm or comment for details. Chip number is coming. See more
