09.05.2022 Perth Training Trip Last Weekend The Perth team hosted me for new P syllabus training over 3 days last weekend. We only got partway as there is a large amount of material to get through even on skills the instructors thought they knew. Based on experience in teaching interstate Krav instructors grappling is very new to many of them but as you SDT guys already know is very important. If only to underscore the necessity of that skill set I came close to having to use it for rea...l on my last morning. A very loud domestic broke out in one of the units above me. Enough to cause someone to call the police. By chance when I went to check out of the motel the unhappy couple were there at reception, the guy still in yell mode. I thought ‘here we go’ and readied myself to launch into a grappling attack if he struck his female partner. The poor mortified receptionist was carrying on looking down as though everything was normal. The police arrived just after I stepped out. I gave them a quick update on what had transpired and they spoke to me a second time as they were leaving and I was waiting to be picked up. On our way to training and based on my information we saw they had caught up with the woman down the road to check on her condition. It crossed my mind that my day would have ended quite differently if I had been Mr. MMA and was mid-ground and pound when the police entered reception. And it would have been recorded on the reception security camera to play back at court. Be careful what you do out in the real world.

27.04.2022 Cold spell hit Adelaide this week. It is a fun fact that when ever the weather changes in any way - hot to cold, cold to hot, dry to wet, etc. we get a full house. I don’t advertise and as you know we have no signage since we moved out and back. Not complaining but go figure.

24.01.2022 Ghosts from SDT Xmases Past Reminder - SDT Xmas session tomorrow (Saturday) 10am. Wear something Xmas related, full Santa outfits optional. There were a few bad Santas in our Xmas training a few years back, with some of the elves a close second. Bit of wild year that one. Adult supervision nowhere to be found.

23.01.2022 Strike training in the heat on an uneven surface, tests the foot work and stability. All SDT instructors (bar one) have had formal Muay Thai, MMA or Boxing strike training so we drill the basics hard which is what occurs in those systems.

23.01.2022 First SDT session back in the city Fitting that our first session last Thursday back in the city was a hard one with a 90 minute hard 'Krav grappling' session. Some technical training but mostly continuous attack and defence against a live non-compliant partner trying to lock their partner up to be countered with Krav technique adapted for grappling. Live training always better than scripted attacks. Note I have had to halt any further intake for our Intro Program for August as our very first day for the month on Saturday was a full house and we were on our COVID-Safe limit.

22.01.2022 Simple drill using inside and outside defence actions as frames to control distance and prevent partner closing

22.01.2022 Xmas Park Weapons Training Good night for some twilight weapons training last night. Haven't covered weapons work for some time and about half there were completely new to solo and dos manos (two hands) stick work and did well given all I threw at them. Had the tux and evening gown Xmas crowd to our right at the restaurant and some of the local wildlife to our left up the hill in the shrubbery but all stayed well clear of us for obvious reasons.... Continue again on Sunday at 10am for Xmas recovery.

22.01.2022 Random responsive striking drill (P1 students shortly to go for their P2 grading) - striker must deal with their partner's actions the circle back out of range.

18.01.2022 SDT Xmas session 2020 Games and aggression drills to finish the year at Gouger St. in what was a challenging year for us all. Some let it all hang out. 2021 should show more promise.

17.01.2022 We're back... Thursday night very first session back in the old place on Gouger St and a bit pressed for space (but yes we were within our COVID Safe plan limit complete with Covid Marshal in yellow vest). Took some time to adjust to the Spartan/Zen look with zero wall adornments, no furniture etc. in case we have to vacate again.

15.01.2022 Last SDT training session for 2020 For the last session of the year at sunset (in the park) decided to revisit weapons work. Great setting for training. Stretched some a little taking them through very (very) basic Sombrada (means something like "to shadow" in Spanish) which is a continuous attack and counter drill common to almost all Filipino weapon systems (well certainly the four Filipino systems I've trained in). The versions with the knife (my preference) develop very f...ast reactions and evasive bodywork and footwork. You die occasionally. So endeth the year.

14.01.2022 Just after coming out of a quick lockdown and on a hot night with 40C coming the next day good to see beginners turnin gout to go at it with the main group outside in the heat.

13.01.2022 Merry Xmas to all SDT'ers It's been a ruff year for many so I hope today and tomorrow go smoothly and enjoyably for all of you. And yes we are back on again Sunday for more weapons training at 10am in Veale Gardens. Weather looks good for the session.

11.01.2022 Yes have been slack in posting. Been focused on a major project for KMG HQ these past months. Training is going exceedingly well no doubt in part to the great team I have supporting me. Thanks guys. My Adelaide City Council parks training license came into effect this week so thought we would hit the great outdoors. Had the perfect weather for the first session. Was expecting it to be wet because of predicted rain yesterday so told everyone to wear expendable clothing.

03.01.2022 Going Back Home! All that hard work to spruce the place up before we left in May due to the COVID closure for whoever comes after us....and it's us! Two weeks today (October 1) we go back to Gouger Street our home since 2004. But given the uncertainty with the COVID and economic situations it is under a monthly rental arrangement not a lease commitment. So we'll maintain a light footprint with minimal furniture etc., while we are there. It will still be home just a bit overly... Zen. First class Thursday October 1, 6.00pm, 210 Gouger St. We'll also add a Tuesday 6.00pm class starting October 6.

03.01.2022 Training at Gouger St back on from this Tuesday Nov 24 With the ending of the lock down training will be back on at Gouger St as from this Tuesday at 6pm and as normal there after. Catch you at training guys!

01.01.2022 COVID Restrictions - Back to SDT training outside With the introduction of COVID restrictions in SA as of midnight tonight (Nov 16) training will shift to our outdoor venue at Veale Gardens from Tuesday Nov 17 until restrictions lift. Days and start times as normal. Wear normal clothing not uniforms. I have just received approval from the Adelaide City Council for the new times (session in photo was on a Sunday) and we have an approved COVID Safe plan for this area.... Enter off South Terrace (Veale Gardens Restaurant entrance) and drive through past the restaurant to the cark park at the back (seen in the photo). Hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes for any equipment will be available. We have done this before.

01.01.2022 A session with a legal team this week that has engaged me to review a 40+ page deposition and CCTV footage. Thankfully in this one I don't have to watch someone who loses their life as a result of violent actions unlike other cases I have been involved in. Nonetheless a timely reminder to remember your actions in a confrontation may be filmed without you being aware and you may have someone like me being asked by a legal team that is filing suit to provide expert opinion on your actions. You may come out on top in the physical encounter but lose the legal one that follows.
