25.01.2022 Its not uncommon when things are challenging, to use alcohol or other drugs perhaps more than you otherwise would. This has been the case throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, where there has been an increase in alcohol consumption in the general population. Unfortunately, its also not uncommon that while we might turn to alcohol or other drug use to get us through a tough time, help us cope or help us feel better in the moment, that in the long term, it has the opposite effect... - contributing to higher levels of stress, anxiety and depression. When we become too reliant on one thing to get us through, we can lose sight of the other things in our lives that are important to us, or that help us to feel good in the long term. These could be things like our connections with friends and family, our day to day tasks that leave us with a sense of accomplishment when we get them done, our education, employment, hobbies, etc. as well as our connection to support services. If you feel like your alcohol or other drug use has increased during these challenging times, and you would like to speak with someone about it, Streetlink offer non-judgmental and confidential alcohol and other drug counselling, delivered via the phone during the COVID pandemic. You can reach out to us by calling 8202 5950, or messaging on here and requesting a call back. A tidbit of advice from us is to remember that moderation is key and that youre not alone - support is out there if you need it!

20.01.2022 During a time where we're being asked to practice social distancing, keeping connected is the thing that will pull us through. When facing a challenge like this, it's important to remember that we're all this in together. What's the best way to stay connected when we've been asked to stay physically apart? Aside from phone conversations, we've seen people stay connected with friends and family via facetime, messenger and other video sharing apps. ... The Streetlink team will become more present over this Facebook page in the coming months, to provide important health updates for you, but also words of support, ideas, and other little bits and bobs, so that we can create another way for you to connect in with our team and each other. Tell us - what's your favourite way of staying on contact with people when you can't see them in person?

11.01.2022 This post includes some helpful information on when you may start to receive the extra $550 per fortnight Coronavirus Supplement. If you are receiving payments including Newstart and Youth Allowance, you don't need to apply for the supplement and it will begin to be paid from this week. The supplement will start to be applied to all payments for reporting periods from the 27th onwards. Remembering that payments are made for the previous two weeks, this means that you shouldn'...t worry if you don't see an increase in your back account straight away. It doesn't mean you won't be getting it - but that it'll come with your next payment. If you are on the basics card, the extra money will be split between the card and your bank account at your normal ratio. We welcome the raise and hope that it provides those on payments with some relief and support during this time!

Reaching out and speaking to someone could be one way of alleviating some of these feelings.

09.01.2022 How do you practice self-care? We can often practice self-care without even realising it, while at other times, we can get bogged down and might need a good reminder. Writing a list like this of self-care and coping strategies is a nice way to give yourself some prompts. And since everyone's list would look a little different, making one just for you could be a nice thing to do during spare time.
