22.01.2022 Machalias said the work grew from her own interest in sharing the stories of refugees, but that she developed it conscious of the fact she doesnt have a refugee background herself. Im good at interpreting things through Shakespeare and there was a similarity with The Tempest around both stories starting with a catastrophic shipwreck and the main character of Prospero being someone who had been in a powerful position, exiled from his homeland, she said. Great piece from arts editor Denholm Samaras on our third First Seen.

21.01.2022 Wow! Friday night was intense, full of emotion and suprise for our second First Seen, a zoom read of Dylan Van Den Berg's Milk. We're so proud of the actors and creative team - Dylan Van Den Berg, Gaye Doolan, Gin Savage, Roxanne McDonald, Laila Thaker, Peter Bailey and Lincoln Elliott - who've worked with big open hearts. laughter, and incisive minds to deepen and enrichen this work as it moves towards production July 2021. Massive shout out to all who attended. You and your feedback awesome! #canberratheatre #newaustralianplays

20.01.2022 I could never have guessed when I started writing that Christmas Island would be reopened for the Biloela family and now its being used to quarantine people during COVID-19, so I believe that it adds another layer to the play, the cruelty is still ongoing. Terrific conversation between Helen Musa and Helen Machalias on all that matters when making theatre.

12.01.2022 "Another idea that is important, was to separate the soundscape into a series of planes based around the themes of the play. We broke those down into sounds exploring nature, spirit, memory and future. " Meet Peter Bailey, sound designer for the recent FIRST SEEN development of MILK, who brought so much of this work to life for us. Fascinating chat on designing sound worlds.
