When you breathe long slow breaths with the out breath being the longest your mind becomes calmer. If you are comfortable to hold at the top of the breath this activates even more of your physiology and vagus nerve to promote calm Try the 4,7,8 .now if you can ..... In for count of 4 hold for 7 and out for 8. ....... A few rounds of this before something scary will help you to feel more in control . Practice before the event for stress mastery It can be used any time ... to promote sleep also . Be careful if it’s your first time ... not advised to be done while driving if it makes you dizzy or you have relevant medical conditions . Most of us have created a lifestyle where this is not happening . Therefore illness and disease show up..... The vagus nerve is the on/off switch that provides the opportunity to switch to parasympathetic pathways. How can you utilise this knowledge? Follow me for more basic tips ... Gut health is only one crucial factor in stress mastery. What comes first the digestive issues or the anxiety ? It’s an interesting topic Things to try ... regular probiotics ... a gluten challenge ( 2 weeks no gluten ... asses your mood ) ... eating the rainbow ( fresh Veges and fruit in many colours ) mindful eating ... no takeaways ... intermittent fasting .. and so much more ... It’s so easy to practice ......giving and receiving love with a dog, cat , horse or in my current case ... a lamb Give it a try ..... a crisis definition is different for us all . 21.01.2022 #stressrelief #nurses #trauma Yesterday I had an encounter with a huge poisonous snake I live on the land so this is not unusual ... The difference between now and years gone by ...is that I allowed myself to scream As a nurse I created skills to stay calm in any situation but then I forgot how to express my feelings I intuitively felt this snake and looked around in all the wrong places so I gave it up as my imagination Then ( in bare feet ) I barged through a small gate and interrupted the biggest snake I have ever seen ( king brown I suspect ) with a large mouse partially through his jaw . Now I don’t usually worry about nature doing it’s thing but this was right near my bare feet .... My beloved Magic the dog was too close for comfort also .. so I consciously decided to scream and keep screaming Understanding how trauma ( nearly stepping on said snake in this case ) is stored in the body is a major step to not only healing but preventing further illness . By screaming and then running when way out of range of snake I released the trauma of the experience almost completely. The book ‘The body keeps the score ‘ by Bessel van der Kolk ... is one of the many books that taught me this information . How do you handle mini daily traumas ? (Picture to help calm your system after reading this scary story ) Breathe deeply and exhale slowly so as not to be traumatised my my trauma No ... I mean it ... please breathe

11.01.2022 Isolation has been a true gift for me I’ve appreciated that mindfulness is when I’m sawing a branch ... the subconscious mind promotes mindfulness when your physical safety is at risk. I’ve appreciated the meditative state I get in when I’m collecting breakfast from the property ..( vege patch , chicken coop ) ... I’ve appreciated having a warm house full of family I’ve learnt to integrate the ceremony of cacao, meditation, mindfulness and exercise into the average day . How have you replaced going to the gym or shopping or similar and decided you prefer it ?
