25.01.2022 While walking around the Paris end of Pako today, I grabbed a coffee at the fabulous @born&bread in Newtown & bumped into local Newtown living legend, Peter Skinner Landers, immediately after bumping into #GFC legend Billy Brownless who was also in the hood! The sun & the stars were out today!

24.01.2022 While I was only a primary school student at the time, I remember this tragic day very well. The death toll & injuries shocked Australia and devastated so many lives. Never to be forgotten.

24.01.2022 Today I was honoured to be invited to be part of the Guild Cricket Club’s interclub practice match and had a good catch up with Club President Grant Stripling and some of the players. I was very impressed by the energy & enthusiasm of the playing group.

24.01.2022 Went for a walk around my old stomping ground of Bell Park and Bell Post Hill today, and paid a visit to my old High School. Great memories!

24.01.2022 Today I inspected the batting nets at Friers Reserve, Newtown home of the Guild Cricket Club that are clearly in need of an upgrade and redevelopment before someone gets hurt. If elected, I’ll add this project to the ‘do list’ to compliment the upgrade to the Clubrooms which were upgraded when I was last Ward Councillor and from what I saw, still looks in remarkably good shape.

23.01.2022 Heres a link to the radio interview I did with Mitchell Dye on The Pulse today. It gives a bit of a picture of why Im running for council. https://mitchellsfrontpage.com/brownbill-candidate-and-for/

23.01.2022 As I've previously mentioned, I no longer own a car, and I'm enjoying the freedom & the exercise that comes from cycling for transport. Today I toured parts of Brownbill Ward without leaving a carbon footprint

21.01.2022 The Australian Defence Force sent out an expression of interest to ADF serving members to join Operation COVID Assist. I answered the call and today am heading up to Melbourne to report for duty. Ill see you all on the other side of the deployment. Stay safe.

19.01.2022 This pretty much sums up 2020! If you dont laugh, youll cry!

19.01.2022 Yesterday I went for a walk in the Brownbill ward and came across this picturesque wetland teeming with birds. Can you guess where I was?

18.01.2022 Two stories on Sunrise this morning speak volumes of the MENTAL HEALTH impact the COVID restrictions are having on people of all ages. Calls to kids HELPLINE are up 24% while requests for help from BEYOND BLUE are up 77%. It’s time to start REOPENING the economy particularly in rural and regional Victoria such as GEELONG. We need to start living alongside the COVID virus as we can’t keep the economy locked down much longer for the sake of people’s mental and financial wellbeing.

17.01.2022 Today I was asked for my vision for MANUFACTURING. I believe Geelong should once again actively pursue manufacturing. The Federal Government has committed to spend $270 billion over the next ten years to enhance the ADF’s capability and is encouraging Australian manufacturers and suppliers to get on board. Geelong has a foothold in this space with the LAND 400 and self propelled howitzer being earmarked to be manufactured right here in Geelong. We should develop a strategy a...round this capability and tap into Geelong’s rich manufacturing heritage to rekindle expertise in defence contracting. With Deakin University and Gordon Institute of TAFE on board we could offer engineering and trade courses complimentary to manufacturing and once again aspire to be a manufacturing powerhouse and as a direct result create thousands of much needed jobs in the northern suburbs. Our youth could aspire to have a life long career in manufacturing in the same way as past generations. Australia needs to start manufacturing again to be more self sufficient and not just rely upon imports. Geelong should be at forefront of Australia’s manufacturing renaissance. See more

17.01.2022 Another case of illegal dumping, this time at King Lloyd Reserve, Newtown. I will report this through to council, and ask that security footage in the area be checked in the hope of identifying the criminals. #noexcuse

17.01.2022 I picked up my coflutes today. If you live in the ward or know someone who would be happy to let me put one of these signs up, please let me know. Id really appreciate the support! Thanks everyone.

17.01.2022 I visited Aldershot Reserve today & discussed residents passion for the open space & the vision they have for it. If elected I will champion this project to provide an urban oasis for the community.

16.01.2022 Last week I reported illegally dumped rubbish to City of Greater Geelong in Coppards Rd and Wilsons Road, St Albans Park. Today I was pleased to receive a call from COGG ByLaws to advise that the rubbish is being cleaned up and consideration is being given to installing CCTV cameras in the vicinity to catch future offenders. I hope this deters perpetrators who instead should take advantage of the twice yearly free hard waste service offered by Council. Why dump illegally when you can simply book a kerbside collection from your nature strip. Please spread the word regarding COGGs generous hard waste collection service.

15.01.2022 I think we can all relate to this!

14.01.2022 Just in case you need reminding, today is the last day to post your ballot paper. Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement over the past six weeks or so. I’ve had some great discussions and support from many quarters. I’m glad I’ve put myself forward for scrutiny and I hope my participation has contributed to a more competitive election. Time will now tell the outcome. Best regards to everyone and thank you once again for your very kind support.

14.01.2022 Not only is the City of Greater Geelong progressively reopening Kardinia Pool later this week, users will get a pleasant surprise to find the pools have been extensively cleaned and some repainted. For one, I cant wait! https://www.geelongaustralia.com.au//item/8d856704d8c1837.

14.01.2022 Having listened to Premier Daniel Andrews announcement today, my heart goes out to all Geelong businesses who were hoping for some easing of restrictions to allow them to progressively re-open their establishments. We need to stand together to help them get through this crisis, as we desperately need them for the jobs and economic activity that they create. This was not the Fathers Day news that we were hoping for.

13.01.2022 Dropped in to Winters Cafe on Pako, who are doing take away during this challenging time. Support local businesses doing it tough!

12.01.2022 These beautiful elm and ash trees along the Barwon river, were identified for felling, and it was my successful Notice of Motion pictured here from 2012 that saved them.

12.01.2022 The new normal at the pub. However a delicious dinner at the Peninsula Hotel in Newcomb Paula still calls it the Dinosaur

11.01.2022 This afternoon I visited East Geelong Golf Club for a chat with President Michael Ryan to discuss the Club’s future plans. It was great to see many Geelong residents enjoying camaraderie and the great outdoors in our beautiful Eastern Park.

11.01.2022 In light of R U OK Day and in particular the stress were all under in these challenging times, lets reach out to family and friends to check in what they are thinking and feeling to make sure they are indeed OK. Sometimes just receiving a phone call or simple acknowledgment that someone cares, makes all the difference. #RUOKDay #mentalhealth #ruokeveryday #RUOK #theresmoretosay

10.01.2022 Disappointing that even in a pandemic, some people find time to steal a corflute. Pathetic really. I had a corflute like the one pictured, on the fence on Anakie Rd, at the Separation St intersection. It lasted only 2 days before someone took a fancy to it overnight. I have reported the matter to Police and they will be looking at neighbouring security footage. These corflutes are quite pricey and for self funded candidates like me, are difficult to replace. If anyone knows anything, or saw any suspicious behaviour, please let me know. Thanks.

09.01.2022 I appreciated a call this week from my mate, Geelong legend Doug Wade, wishing me well in the council election. We are both eagerly awaiting Saturday night's big game Cats v Brisbane! #GoCats Which team are you getting behind this AFL final series?

09.01.2022 I think Geelong have got this!

09.01.2022 What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago we were getting ready for the Geelong Cup, this year...not so much.

09.01.2022 Ive arrived in Bourke Street, Melbourne and honestly the place is a ghost town.

08.01.2022 Thrilled to be back in touch with my old mates at Murgheboluc Cricket Club. Lets hope were all back watching and playing cricket before too long!

08.01.2022 Having discovered illegal dumping at the Barwon River at the end of Wilsons Rd in St Albans Park on Friday, I was able to meet with a council officer today to inspect the mess & arrange for it to be attended to. #cleanenvironment

07.01.2022 Im delighted that heritage homestead Claremont has been saved by a interim heritage overlay. We need more proactive action of this kind. If elected, I will be a champion for saving and protecting heritage in the Brownbill Ward. We have so many special properties and pockets of housing that just must be preserved for future generations. They help define our history and who we are.

07.01.2022 Out supporting local business yesterday at the South Geelong Primary School Farmers Market. Arguably bought way too many cakes and goodies, but the extra kgs will be worth it given the cause!

07.01.2022 It’s time to get TOUGH on HOONS. Their dangerous and reckless behaviour is a big issue right across Geelong. If elected, I will advocate for more CCTV cameras and a CHANGE in LEGISLATION so that when hoons are caught their CARS should be CONFISCATED and CRUSHED and fined $5000.00. We need a change in the law to enable law abiding residents to take back control of the streets. VOTE 1 STRETCH KONTELJ

06.01.2022 Just finished a LGBTIQA+ inclusion event zoom meeting, presented by LinkedOut on behalf of the @manifoldcricketclub Very enlightening evening. I appreciate learning about the challenges faced by this community and how we should be more mindful of our language.

06.01.2022 Thank you for your support Gorge The 18th Amendment Bar, Geelong

06.01.2022 Im loving the veggie gardens that are cropping up in front yards and nature strips. Reminds me of the potato patch my parents had in the front yard of our home in Bell Post Hill in the 1970s. Who knew they were ahead of the trend!

05.01.2022 It’s a special day today in the Kontelj household with my son Davis sitting down to do his last exam of his Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws Degree at Deakin University. So after five years, 40 units and thousands of hours of study, Davis is scheduled to complete his undergraduate studies. I’m so proud of how the boy I left when I went to Guernsey in 2015 has grown into a high performing man over the past five years. To boot, he is a special person, loved by all who know him, so compassionate, loving and caring. Well done Son, I couldn’t be prouder.

04.01.2022 Residents have every reason to be annoyed and disappointed by COGG’s FAILURE to achieve even its own low level GREEN AIMS. While many European countries are aiming for 100% RECYCLING, COGG is diverting less than 56% of kerbside waste from LANDFILL so you can imagine how WOEFUL it’s recycling rate must be. If elected, I would DEMAND aggressive CIRCULAR ECONOMY targets and make achieving Geelong’s green credentials not only a whole of City priority but also a filter through which all decisions are made. I would insist that every decision have reference to how it is assisting Geelong become Australia’s CLEAN, GREEN, CAPITAL CITY.

04.01.2022 Plenty of work do to in Whittington to address many of the social issues that are leading to this headline including addressing the lack of facilities for youth. Whoever gets elected, must no overlook the outer ‘forgotten suburbs’.

04.01.2022 Its great news that businesses are now emerging from restrictions! I popped in for a coffee at a Pako cafe where the staff are excited to again host sit down patrons as from tomorrow!

04.01.2022 At least the Geelong Football Club is giving us something to smile about today! #GoCats

04.01.2022 The vandalism to my signs this election has been ridiculous! This one doesn't even look anything like me!

03.01.2022 A beautiful morning for a walk with my best friend!

03.01.2022 Sky news key notes from the QLD election.

02.01.2022 Ordinarily around this time in an election campaign, I would be out & about on bustling streets, meeting residents and door knocking to find out what issues are foremost on your mind. Given the Covid crisis, this is not possible, so I invite you to contact me with any questions, concerns or ideas on 0419 327 303 or email [email protected] I look forward to engaging with you. Thank you

02.01.2022 Someone said some of my signs are a bit too big... I dont know about that? #bighead #stretchisback #backstretch #geelongelections

01.01.2022 Met Daniel at The Village Store, in Pako and he showed me the mural he commissioned himself to beautify an otherwise ugly area beside his store. Great work by a great local business!
