23.01.2022 So I have had everyone asking for a progression from the book bridge balance No one actually asked but I’m going to give it to you anyway Set yourself up with some foam, books or timber.. anything to prop the feet up on... Grab some weight, a kettlebell or medicine ball should suffice Set your feet, tippy toes on one side, heels on the other. Grab the weight, ideally out in front of you and squat nice and deep like Punch out 8-12 reps, whatever you’re comfortable doing, and even use this as a warm up before you perform your heavier, weighted squatting. 23.01.2022 Everyone is pretty pumped that the gyms are back up and running today But please do your good old pod a favour.. don’t neglect your foot and calf strength A great way to include foot and calf strength into your gym routine is to incorporate it between sets... Most exercises aren’t overly taxing so you can squeeze them into the dead time between sets Back Squat into Weighted Calf Raises into Banded Star Excursion So when you head back into the gym post-covid, please don’t neglect the mince meat and baby cows See more

20.01.2022 Here ya are, give this a go Most commonly used for squat repetitions, we’re giving the baby cows and mince meat a look at the song Flower by Moby (genuine track by the way) We’ll call this an Island Single Leg Calf Raise, referencing the fact that you’re in free space with nothing to hold on to... Green Sally UP... Green Sally DOWN... Lift and squat, gotta tear the ground Feel the and let us know how you go See more

18.01.2022 We may be a lil biased but we think our feet do a maintain of work without much reward Our feet cop the full brunt of the earth, Stride upon stride We squeeze them into little foot coffins or prop them up on stilts... And when it’s all said and done, we kick them up on the couch, stuff our face full of deliciousness and give them a little extra work to do tomorrow Take time to appreciate your feet They’re over worked and underpaid See more

16.01.2022 A recent piece of research found that 12 weeks of custom orthotic use created a decrease in muscle size of the intrinsic foot muscles Hardly surprising given we are prescribing an external support which reduces how much work they have to do But it just reinforces that when prescribing Custom Foot Orthoses, we have to ask ourselves is the juice worth the squeeze... In other words, do the benefits of orthotics outweigh the potential downfall of muscle atrophy and dependence It’s why we always try and prescribe foot mobility and strength exercises in conjunction with orthoses, and try and create an exit strategy to minimise a dependence upon foot orthoses long term We’re constantly asking ourselves is the juice worth the squeeze See more

13.01.2022 It is a common misconception that all podiatrist advocate the need for more support A patient yesterday couldn’t believe that we wanted to take her orthotics away from her and get her wearing less supportive footwear She was under the impression from the podiatrist that’s prescribed them for her that she’d always need them... Whenever commencing orthotic therapy or footwear therapy (therapy in the wearing, not the buying) the aim should always be to reduce the requirement of them Reliance and dependence on orthotics or supportive footwear leave you really close to your threshold for injury if you happen to spend an uncontrolled amount of time without them The strategy should be to gradually taper out of them and use them less and less while your increase your use of your strong, healthy feet Sometimes you don’t.. need.. more.. support (the quotations around support are for another post) See more

11.01.2022 Alright... let’s get to work With the changes that the new Stage 4 restrictions have created, exercise is more important now than ever Obviously the restrictions state that we are limited to an hours exercise per day... So I challenge you to MEET YOUR QUOTA There are SOOOO many benefits in exercise. Physically, mentally and emotionally Whether it’s an hours walk, hours run or circuit at home... let’s get it done See more

11.01.2022 Gyms are opening back up tomorrow, I hope everyone is pumped to get back into it But please do us a favour.. don’t neglect your foot and calf strength A great way to include it into your gym work out is between sets... Most foot and ankle exercises aren’t overly taxing so make use of that dead time by giving them a once over Back Squats Into Weighted Calves Raises Into Banded Star Excursion Please don’t neglect the mince meat and baby cows See more

05.01.2022 Sometimes.. we just need a little extra room Football boots are notoriously narrow, and for good reason Most players like a firm fitting, comfortable boot to enhance feel and touch... But as they say, you can’t always fit a square peg in a round hole Here we are stretching a little extra room in a punters boot But not just any punter, he’s an actual punter, part of the Prokick Academy and off the the states for a taste of it Ready to launch See more
