20.01.2022 Push For Better Together! The team here at Stride Kids are participating in The Push-Up Challenge to raise awareness around the lives lost to suicide and to raise money for headspace to increase the mental health support available to young people! The aim is to do 3,046 push-ups from now until the end of May! We are doing a mixture of activities and will try to give you all regular updates along the way! If youd like to participate or donate, please feel free to do so - in the meantime, please enjoy our first video of us physically struggling...I mean distancing through this challenge!

19.01.2022 Welcome to Stride Kids (formerly The Poppy Centre run by Aftercare)! We wanted to share our new name and look and feel with you a little earlier, but COVID-19 stole our thunder. Its a name that recognises all big achievements start small. And that wherever our clients are on their recovery journey, well be by their side, like weve always been. ... We know its a big change, but were looking forward to sharing this next chapter with you. Together, well keep finding new ways to learn, grow and heal. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthsupport #anxietyawareness #childhoodmentalhealth #parenting #suicideprevention #depressionawareness

06.01.2022 "Birdie and the Virus" is an easy to read story book for children, to help them understand the Corona Virus, and the changes that have come with that. When a child has been affected by a stressful event, the Birdie stories help them cope by: helping them understand whats happened, and what might happen next helping them feel safe, sharing a story in a caring relationship with an adult... helping them learn words for big feelings like sadness, anger and worry, as well as words for feeling happy, cosy, content and safe reassuring them that its okay to express and talk about feelings giving them interesting, enjoyable experiences to work against unpleasant experiences they may have had or still be having You can hear the story and see the pages in this video link. The book has recently been published by Childrens Health Qld, written by their very own Andrea Baldwin. The Birdie series of books tackle a number of disruptive events, and help us to help them make sense of it. https://www.childrens.health.qld.gov.au/covid-19-birdie-vi/

02.01.2022 Looking for something to do while youre stuck at home?? Were throwing out a challenge for this week - we want your family to create something with what you already have at home. It can be anything - drawing, painting, building, cooking, gardening or something else your family love to do and create. We cant wait to see what you come up with - doing it together as a family is a great opportunity to enjoy each others company. You can post photos of your creation in the comments below, and next Monday, well announce the winning families. We hope to get some of the photos up on the wall in the Centre, and youll be able to see them next time youre in. :)

01.01.2022 A great resource for explaining COVID-19 and the importance of staying home to children!
