It is also a place that holds tension. Horses just like people hold much of their tension in their jaw as a result of stress, frustration and pain. This will cause tight tissue, tissues restriction and joint immobility. This in turn will affect Atlanto-occipital joint and the atlantoaxial joint and the rest of the body. This can result in many issues some very complex and some simple such as headaches, neck pain and jaw pain. These are some simple things you can do that will release some of the tension. All theses moves mobilize fascia increase blood flow and relax tissue through the contact with your hand. Remember to breath, remember to be soft, horses are way more sensitive then people and have thinner skin. If your horse is head shy try just placing hands with out movement and work one side at a time with just one hand. Don’t do this everyday , pick a day where you have time and your horse has had its food and is naturally in rest and digest. Most important have fun with it , this is not going to fix all the issues with your horse. It will however help relax you both and build trust and communication.
