01.05.2022 Connecting with nature can bring so much joy. My lotus flowers not only make my garden beautiful, but give me a sense of pride and feeling of happiness. What flowers do you proudly grow in your garden? #lotus #garden #nature #joy #connectwithnature #flowerpower #bees #plants #plantsmakepeoplehappy

15.04.2022 Well, this came in the mail the other day, and guess whatI felt weird sharing my achievement with my familyand I didn’t even mention it to others outside of my tight knit circle. Why? Because I have been conditioned to not big-note myself, so I keep my achievements on the low. As a child of the 80s, Madonna’s What it feels like for a girl song lyrics ring so true: When you're trying hard to be your best could you be a little less.... Can anyone else relate? Well, it’s time to enjoy your achievements, and share them with the world, even if you think no one cares, because you probably worked very hard to get it and it is not all for nothing. Change comes in small ways. Find your POWER WITHIN.

07.04.2022 Many websites extol the health virtues of consuming vinegar, especially apple cider vinegar. But this is proving to be valid in a number of ways, although it is... best to consume vinegar using a straw to avoid any damage to dentine from the low pH. For starters, vinegar is a dietary source of the short chain fatty acid acetate, which now has an impressive portfolio of health benefits. One example is daily vinegar ingestion has been linked to improved glycaemic control. Recent data suggest a separate unexplored role for vinegar in mental health. Utilising a placebo-controlled, parallel arm study design, a 4-week trial examined the impact of daily vinegar ingestion on mood and urinary metabolites in healthy college students. Participants were randomised to the vinegar group (VIN: n = 14; 1.5 g acetic acid/day as liquid vinegar) or the control group (CON: n = 11; 0.015 g acetic acid/day as a pill) with no change to customary diet or physical activity. The change in both Profile of Mood States (POMS) depression scores and Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression (CES-D) scores differed significantly between groups, favouring the VIN group. Metabolomics analyses pre and post-intervention suggested metabolite alterations associated with vinegar ingestion that are consistent for improved mood, including less enzymatic dysfunction in the hexosamine pathway as well as significant increases in glycine, serine and threonine metabolism. 12.01.2022 INTERMITTENT FASTING Intermittent fasting has become a popular weight loss method recently. Have you tried it? Possible benefits include:... Reduced: Blood pressure. Oxidative stress. Evening appetite. Body Mass Index (BMI). Increased: Insulin sensitivity. Pancreatic B-cell function. Insulin production after meals. Metabolic rhythms. Who needs to check with their health professional before trying intermittent fasting? Diabetics on medication and/or insulin therapy. People with a history of eating disorders. People taking medications that require food to be taken at the same time. How to begin intermitted fasting daily: Eat your meals early in the day, for example 8am-2pm (6hrs) or 8am-4pm (8hrs). Eat your largest meal first and gradually reduce calorie intake over the next 2 meals. Continue to drink a minimum of 2-3 litres of water a day. If you feel dizzy, hot or disorientated when fasting, check your blood glucose levels and blood pressure, especially if you are exercising and fasting. You may need professional guidance to adjust to this way of eating. If you are hoping for sustainable weight loss through this method alone, you may be disappointed, as reduction of body weight permanently is complicated. It requires many other factors to be taken into account, including environmental exposure to toxins, lifestyle patterns, adequate sleep and nutrients. At STRIVE we offer support with this, just email or message us for more information. Challenge for the week: If you are interested in this method, start with reducing your food intake to 12hrs (only eat between 8am-8pm) no night snacks. Once you have established this pattern, then gradually further reduce your intake hours by 1 hour a day, until you reach 8hrs (only eat between 9am-5pm).

08.01.2022 Some great ideas on how to make your food last longer.

08.01.2022 A recent review led by Dr. Neal Barnard, one of the most respected authorities on nutrition and health, outlined the benefits of a plant-based diet for endurance athletes. Due to the improved cardiovascular, lipid and body composition outcomes from following a plant-based diet, the review concluded these benefits had a follow-on effect on improving performance and endurance capability, as well as recovery. Antioxidants, high in plant and fruit sources, also helped with the re...duction of inflammation and oxidative stress, which occurs with prolonged exercise. Protein, calcium and iron levels were not a concern if the athlete ate green vegetables and legumes regularly. However, as with all plant-based diets, B12 supplementation was required. Its true a plant-based diet is not suitable for everyone, at STRIVE we can help you identify the most beneficial way of eating for you. If youre struggling with fatigue, recovery and are a type A blood group, maybe you should give it a try. We can help with the transition and educate you on the types of foods you should be eating, just email us to set up an online consultation, for only $90. 06.01.2022 HYDRATION - DON'T FORGET THE BASICS. So often we forget to do the basics, because we are too busy, not prepared, or we get distracted. Its so important to make sure you keep hydrated. Water helps cell function, biochemical body reactions, transportation of cells in the blood and lymph, regulation of body temperature, lubrication and digestion, and the elimination of wastes from the body. We can get water from our foods, drinks and metabolic activities. Most adults require 2...-3 litres a day, which should be increased if you're exercising or sweating, or if its hot weather, or you have an overly active job or day. To work out your individual water needs based on your body weight: Body weight x 0.033 = water intake by litres per day Example: 100kg x 0.033 = 3.3L/day Other general recommendations include: Add lemon to room temperature water and drink on waking everyday to cleanse, help bowel motions and raise pH level. Add electrolyte powder if you excessively sweat or exercise to replace loss of potassium and sodium through the skin. Choose spring or filtered water, stored in glass when possible to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals, additives and micro-organisms. Add BCAAs powder to water before HIT or functional training, and drink throughout to prevent muscle breakdown and enhance performance. Remember to drink your water intake throughout the day, 250-500ml a time and not all at once, as excessive water intake can flood the organs and brain, which can lead to dangerous consequences.

04.01.2022 Proud to be an ANTA member, they have high standards and accreditation requirements. What association is your naturopath or nutritionist with? Make sure its one of the best.

04.01.2022 Antibiotics Have you had a course of antibiotics lately, or have taken multiple antibiotic courses over a long period of time? Antibiotics work by inhibiting bacteria, by stopping proteins in the wall of the bacteria forming. This results in the bacteria population unable to multiply, and therefore reducing, and eventually dying out the colony. There are many different types of antibiotics for many different bacterial strains.... Antibiotics not only kill the beneficial and non-beneficial bacterial strains in the body, but may also cause damage to cells and tissues, so it is important to eat lots of antioxidant foods while taking them. Bacterial strains can become resistant, mutate, or become less sensitive to antibiotics, which then can lead to antibiotics becoming ineffective. Studies have shown the more antibiotic use, the more cases of resistance are reported. Antibiotics may also decrease the effectiveness of the oral contraceptive pill, and additional contraception, such as condoms, should be used while taking them. If pregnant, make sure you tell your GP, as some types of antibiotics may increase a risk of injuring the foetus. After a course of antibiotics it is important to repopulate your gut with beneficial bacteria, and support any healing of tissue that may have been damaged while taking the antibiotics. There are many different strains of probiotics with different applications, as well as, nutritional supplements that may help.
