20.01.2022 Work is being done on the school heating system tomorrow. This means the heating will not work on Thursday and Friday. Classrooms which have their own systems will use them but students are advised to wear jumpers as the hallways and some other areas will be cool. Thank you for your understanding! 18.01.2022 Our school nurse Claire & Mrs Cecere were out riding on the bike and pump track today. This week we’ve enjoyed opening the pump track to the students at break time. It’s also great to see the community using the track on the weekend and in the afternoon. #MSHS

Day 2020 Thursday 10th Sept It’s a national day of action where Australians are reminded that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs. The campaign aims to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with anyone who may be struggling with life. ... To raise awareness and promote this campaign we will be holding a number of different activities which include: - A Sports Match: this aims to promote the benefits of embedding R U OK? culture in sport to support athletes and players. Sport can break down barriers, reduce stigma and provide a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. - Mindfulness Activities: Not only do mindful activities reduce stress, benefit our health and develop feelings of gratitude, it also provides the opportunity for us to connect and support those around us. The Education Directorate has partnered with ACT Health to provide licences for Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training for all school communities - it’s free and takes only 60 minutes. 15.01.2022 Last Friday 10 of our students graduated with their Certificate II in Construction. The have spent the past 12 weeks designing and building an outdoor area at Melrose High School which included paving, brick laying, buliding a pizza oven, tiling and many other skills. The second round of the Construction Course has begun here at Stromlo and will be completed in November. We are really proud of what these students have achieved.

15.01.2022 Well done to the Year 7 LEX@S Science class who presented their Investigation via a scientific poster. We missed sharing our learning with parents due to COVID restrictions, but many thanks to the wonderful staff who stepped in to provide a captive audience. Students were happy to share research and describe their scientific process. It was a great end to a busy unit.

12.01.2022 On behalf of Mount Stromlo High School, I would like to invite current year 6 students who are enrolled at Mount Stromlo for Year 7 in 2021 to a Transition Half Day. In past years we have hosted a full day of transition activities with our future year 7’s. Due to current recommendations related to Coronavirus, we will host half-day transition sessions for students. Your child has been invited to attend the transition session at Mount Stromlo High School on Tuesday 27 Octob...er (Week 3, Term 4) or Tuesday 3 November (Week 4, Term 4). If you are unsure which day your child is attending please contact the school. The half-day will focus on students meeting other students, meeting their peer support leaders and teachers, and becoming familiar with the school itself. The half-day is organised into several sessions, with the aim being a smooth transition to high school next year. 12.01.2022 Mid-semester reports were emailed home today. Students are assessed against their achievement and effort in the subject. The following criteria is used:... - Achievement At Standard or Partial - Effort - Consistently, Usually, Sometimes or Rarely - Interviews Welcome or Requested In light of our current circumstances and with recommendations from ACT Health and the Department of Education, Parent/Teacher interviews will be via phone. Due to the number of phones and facilities within the school, Parent/Teacher phone interviews will be spread across multiple days. Each teacher will be available on one of the dates below between 3:30 7:00pm. Please see the list attached to the email to see when each teacher will be available and make an appointment on SOBS to speak to your child’s teacher on that date. Your child’s teacher will call you at the allotted time. The appointments will be strictly five minutes long, however parents, carers and teachers are encouraged to continue the conversation at a later date if needed. 11.01.2022 At Mount Stromlo High School, our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) team has created our Non-Classroom Setting Matrix which sets out our behaviour expectations in our school. The Matrix was created in consultation with our staff, students and community. Please find a copy of our Matrix and the related feedback form. The PBL team presented our Matrix to the P&C for their feedback and are also seeking feedback from our wider parent community. Links are in the comments.

09.01.2022 Will Kostakis - Author Q&A session - Tuesday 15th September at Break 1 (11am) Will Kostakis is an award-winning author for young adults. His first novel, Loathing Lola, was released when he was just nineteen, and his second, The First Third, won the 2014 Gold Inky Award. It was also shortlisted for the Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year and Australian Prime Minister's Literary awards.

03.01.2022 Tomorrow is the big day - STROMLO DAY! Normal classes will occur from 8:50 - 12:30pm. From 12:30 - 1:30pm students will participate in activities. ... Lunch will be from 1:30 - 2pm and students can purchase from the BBQ (2 x sausages + drink = $5). From 2 - 3pm students will participate in the colour run. Please ensure you are wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting colour on and clean clothes to change into to go home. It will be a fantastic day. Remember to bring a drink bottle! #MSHS

As part of the Health & PE week, we are asking you to wear your favourite sporting jersey to school on FRIDAY to show your support for the DONATE LIFE network and begin the conversation with your friends and families about Organ Donation. This campaign is all about raising awareness - there is no requirement to raise funds.
