25.01.2022 Rejoice! Advent’s third week sees the lighting of the rose-coloured candle. The crib is in place, so far inhabited only by animals. Christmass is near.

24.01.2022 Icon for All Saints Day. Thanks for image to Fr Bosco Peters’ twitter post.

24.01.2022 A longer and richly rewarding essay on angels.

24.01.2022 Perhaps it’s not surprising that the previous post on REGRET would awaken memories of personal regrets! A poem on Light which I read in the last few days, ends with Grace. Reassuringly, grace is stronger than regret.

23.01.2022 When words can’t say it all, the light of a candle can be a sign of the inexpressible.

21.01.2022 Preparing to celebrate Saint Francis day on 4 October, with Franciscans around the world, Brother Christopher John SSF who is Minister General, gives a view of Anglican Franciscan life from Stroud Hermitage.

20.01.2022 We are having a celebration lunch for Fr Martin and Julianne before they leave our parish at the end of the month. If you would like to join us for lunch on Sunday 20 December, 12 noon at Stroud Central Hotel, please let Melissa Dew know.

17.01.2022 The bird that flew inside the church today just as the Eucharist was finishing would have got the Daylight Saving time wrong, and was also a week early to hear Br Christopher John SSF preaching at our Saint Francis celebration next Sunday. Not sure if the bird needs to register on the attendance sheet.

14.01.2022 Show me a person who has no regrets! A good reflective read for Saturday morning.

11.01.2022 After Hallowe'en is All Saints Day. 1 November is on Sunday this year, so our 9.00am Eucharist celebrates the feast. The next day we commemorate All Souls at Monday's 7.00pm Eucharist, remembering departed family members and friends.

08.01.2022 Angels have a fascination for many people. Today is the feast of Saint Michael and All Angels. Michael’s name in Hebrew means who is like God. Gabriel announces that John the Baptist will be born to Elizabeth and Zechariah; and is entrusted to reveal to Mary that she will bear the Son of God. Raphael’s name is Hebrew for God has healed.... Here are Ethiopian depictions of angels (either side of Saint George). The angel musicians by Fra Angelico are for the night watch of Vigils and the evening hour of Vespers. See more

07.01.2022 My resignation as Stroud parish priest has been announced. After my final Sunday 27 December, Julianne and I move to our new home in Canberra to be nearer to family. Deciding to leave Stroud has been very difficult, after more than four most happy years here. We have loved being in the parish and community, and I have treasured being able to offer ministry as priest here.

06.01.2022 A great set of studies from Anglican Board of Mission for thinking and acting on climate change

03.01.2022 The dawning light; preparing to celebrate Saint Francis. Blessings and prayers for the Stroud Hermitage brothers of the Society of St Francis.

01.01.2022 Remember Daylight Saving!
