25.01.2022 Please read on if your pet is a patient of ours who; 1. Is on long term medication from BOVA compounding pharmacy Or 2. Is currently on fluoxetine or lovan lo...ng term BOVA has informed us that in order to receive any compounded medication before Christmas, the script will need to be sent to them by the 13TH OF DECEMBER. If your pet is on drugs such as trilostane (for cushings management), methimazole (hyperthyroid management) , cyclosporin (dry eyes), trazadone (anxiety) and you think you may need a top up prescription, please let us know ASAP. In regards to fluoxetine/lovan/prozac there is a worldwide shortage of this drug. If your pet is currently on this medication, please call to book an appointment ASAP to discuss other alternatives as this drug should not be stopped suddenly. If you are unsure of your pet's medications and need to clarify, please call the clinic on 9398 8000. Thank you

23.01.2022 How often you should wash your dog depends on their breed, lifestyle and skin health. If your dog is a short-coated breed that lives outside, they probably only need to be washed with gentle dog shampoo twice a year. If you have a long-coated breed, or a dog that lives inside, or one that goes swimming regularly, you might want to wash more often. Dog’s don’t need to be bathed weekly, unless they have a skin condition that requires medicated shampoo. Washing too frequently can actually cause damage to your dog’s skin. As a general rule, try not to wash more often than once monthly with shampoos. If you are worried about your pets smell, please come and talk to us about other options to keep them smelling great without the need for bathing.

23.01.2022 If you have changed your phone number or address since your pet was microchipped, then it’s time to update their chip details. Check the paperwork that came with your pet’s microchip, as often you can call or update details online. If you no longer have that paperwork, check your pet’s microchip on www.petaddress.com.au to find out which registry they are on. If you don’t know your pet’s microchip number, just bring them into the clinic and we can scan their chip for the number.

22.01.2022 Summer has well and truly arrived. There are a few steps we can take to make our pets more comfortable on warm, summer nights. Remember to never put coats or jackets on your pet on hot nights and to switch their bedding to something comfortable but cooler (e.g. raised bedding that allows airflow). If your pet gets hot, you may even notice them seeking out cool tiles - you can also set up a small fan near their bedding to help them cool down.

21.01.2022 With grooming salons open around the country post-lockdown, it’s time to tame that winter coat. Some dog breeds like Cavoodles, Samoyeds, Pomeranians, Poodles and Shih Tzu’s need grooming year-round. Other breeds may just need a ‘winter blowout’ to help shed their winter coat. Grooming is an important part of pet care and helps keep your pet’s coat healthy. If you notice your pet’s skin looking red, inflamed, greasy or dry, contact us today for advice.

20.01.2022 Heat stress is a risk to all pets, but particularly dogs and those kept in cages, such as rabbits and birds. All pets must have access to shade in a well-ventilated area, as well as constant access to cool, fresh water. Dogs should only be exercised in the early morning or evening. If your pets show signs of heat stress, such as open-mouth panting, collapse, or excessive salivating (dogs), contact us immediately. Let’s stay safe this summer.

20.01.2022 Toasty tootsies Did you know that while under anaesthetic or sedation, patients are not able to regulate their body temperature as effectively? During anaesthesia, our nurses use several methods to maintain your pets temperature to support their body through their procedure and achieve a nice, smooth recovery. ... For cats and dogs, heat is most easily lost through their legs and paws so one method we use is wrapping their little feet in foil or bubble wrap and covering them with baby socks

19.01.2022 Can you believe Christmas is right around the corner? While this year has been more unusual than most, one thing Australians can look forward to is Christmas with family and friends. Ensure your pets have a safe Christmas by keeping an eye out for common hazards, such as Christmas trees, decorations, gift ribbons and BBQ skewers. If you think your pet has ingested something it shouldn’t have, contact us immediately.

17.01.2022 Hot dog! We are in for a scorcher this weekend, Sydney-siders. With soaring temps for the next couple of days, there's some things we should try and keep in mind to help our pets. Make sure there is PLENTY of fresh water available at all times and that it is located in a shady area.... If you are going to take your dog for a walk, do it early in the morning or in the evening. For this brachycephalic breeds in particular like frenchies or pugs, it's best to keep it to a short walk if you can. Remember, if the ground is too hot for your feet, it's too hot for their paws! Watch for signs of heatstroke such as very dark pink gum/tongue colour, excessive panting, excessive lethargy, vomiting, confusion. If you notice these signs, try to move your pet to a cool area and place cool damp towels on areas such as their feet, stomach and neck and then calling your vet for further advice. If you can, leave out shallow dishes filled with water in shady areas near bushes/trees to help out the wildlife nearby too Stay safe and cool this weekend #summer #sydneysummer #summerheatwave #summertime #hotdogs #cooldogs #dogsofinstagram #dogsofsydney #dogsofsummer #brachycephalic #frenchiesofinstagram #frenchie #pugsofinstagram #pug

14.01.2022 We are back at it today guys! After 4 days off, we are open normal hours today and ready to see you and your furkids We hope you've had a lovely and safe holiday weekend!

12.01.2022 Between unwrapping gifts, swimming, eating pavlova and playing board games, it can be hard to give your pet the attention they deserve during Christmas. Make a plan beforehand to ensure they are entertained all day long. Make some frozen, stuffed Kong treats with peanut butter or salt-reduced stock as a treat. Consider organising a puppy playdate or, if they’re not a fan of noise, keep them in a cool, quiet room with food, water, toys and bedding until the guests head home.

05.01.2022 Have you ever bought an expensive bed or toy for your pet, only for them to ignore it and play in an empty cardboard box instead? One of the benefits of having pets is that it doesn’t have to cost much to keep them amused. When you unwrap your Christmas presents this year, consider letting your pets play around in the discarded wrapping paper and boxes before tidying up. They will love it and it costs nothing. Just make sure you keep an eye on them so they don’t get into trouble.

05.01.2022 Working from home and more one-on-one time has likely meant your pet has been spoiled with attention these past few months. Young pets growing up in the COVID-era have likely never experienced large gatherings of people and may be apprehensive during Christmas festivities. Ensure you give your pet a quiet place to retreat to if things become too much and to give them plenty of support if they become anxious. Contact us if you’re worried about your pet’s anxiety.

04.01.2022 Are you fe-line like you need a holiday? If you're planning a getaway this summer, it’s important to check your cat has everything they need before boarding. Make sure your cat’s parasite control and vaccinations are up-to-date. All catteries require proof of current F3 vaccination before accepting your cat. If you’re unsure whether your cat is fully vaccinated, or you know they’re overdue, give us a call today.

03.01.2022 Do you have a cat that vomits? Although vomiting can be caused by medical conditions, one normal cause of occasional vomiting in otherwise healthy cats is hairballs. As cats self-groom, they ingest a lot of hair that is normally passed in their faeces, but sometimes this hair is vomited up. If you find your cat vomiting or retching frequently, in large volumes, or is unwell, make an appointment with us today.

02.01.2022 After the year that’s been, we all need a holiday. And while Bali might be out of the question, there are plenty of things to see and do in Australia. If you’re planning on boarding your dog this summer, make sure their parasite control and vaccinations are up to date. All kennels require proof of current C5 vaccination before accepting your dog. If you’re unsure whether your dog is fully vaccinated, or you know they’re overdue, give us a call today.
