21.01.2022 St Sebastian's Primary School Prep and Year 3/4 students joined forces during library time last week. We visited the library at the same time. This gave both classes a wonderful opportunity to use the space together, to mingle and get to know each other a little more. Whilst there, we set the students a challenge - to partner up with each other and spend some quality reading time. It was lovely to watch the interactions between both groups of children as the Year 3/4 students read some picture books to the Prep students. The photos show the engagement and excitement by all. What great readers we have in Prep and 3/4!!!

17.01.2022 Trying to solve and measure these mysterious feet Who do they belong to? Recently, St Sebastians Primary School Preps walked into their classroom to find giant hand and feet prints. They knew they belonged to someone big and maybe they were the giants from Jack and the Beanstalk but they knew that this story was just a fairy tale. The children began to think they belonged to Mr Delaney and he had snuck in and left his prints around our room. They even thought it could h...ave been Mrs Brusasco and they asked her to visit too. Mr Delaney and Mrs Brusasco were asked to come into the classroom to measure and compare their hands and feet to the giant prints that were in our room. Using blocks, non standard units to measure they soon realised that it could not be Mr Delaney nor Mrs Brusasco as their hands and feet were smaller than the mystery prints. We had lots of fun comparing our own hands and feet with the prints with lots of clever estimating and counting occurring. Maybe the giant did visit our classroom after all! See more
17.01.2022 Last week, the St Sebastian's Primary School Year Three students went on an excursion to Fort Lytton. Beware! When you see a Bombardier, he may scare you with his loud and booming voice. And when he gives you an instruction you MUST obey! Yes, Bombardier!... At Fort Lytton we learnt about the big changes that happened here in Brisbane and other parts of Australia because of the wars. We learnt that the Indigenous peoples of this land lived here but were moved from the area and many went to Stradbroke Island. This was because those in charge here wanted to build the fort there, as it was a good place to have protection. We also learnt that Fort Lytton was a quarantine station around the Spanish Flu time after WW1. The Bombardier taught us how to march, stand to attention and be at ease. It was a lot of fun! We also got to explore the fort and its many areas. We were all involved in placing artefacts from those historical times in a timeline. We were tricked that day into thinking that Fort Lytton was going to be shut down! We even wrote reasons why it should be kept and declared them to the politician at a mock meeting! We had a super fun day out! See more
