25.01.2022 If you are attending the 5.30pm Family Mass on Christmas Eve, we invite your children to participate in our Nativity Play. If your child, or grandchild, would like to be part of it please email the Parish Office at [email protected] with names, age, number of children and contact details and we will be in touch. It is hopeful that we will have a rehearsal on 23rd December. All children - whether participating in the play or not - are invited to dress as angels an...d shepherds at the Mass. We look forward to celebrating this special occasion with you.

25.01.2022 This week the children at St Thomas school have been busily preparing to celebrate the dads, granddads and father figures in their life. We love to see what their dads mean to them. And what a great looking bunch of dads they must be at St Thomas!

25.01.2022 Today Fr Christopher celebrated our annual Spring Healing Mass Our Care & Concern group were unable to host their usual Morning Tea following Mass, however they put together a delicious take-home pack with a warm lunch, tea, coffee, hand sanitiser, puzzle book and chocolate. The gift packs were packed in bags which were beautifully decorated by some of our St Thomas school students - thank you to some incredible young artists! Thanks to Nick & Jenny at HealthSave Ph...armacy Norman Park for providing the sanitisers at a discount rate and Meals on Wheels Bulimba for the puzzle books. Thanks again to our Liturgy Team for bringing Spring into our church. It was wonderful to see everyone gathering in the church and the community come together to make this a special celebration.

24.01.2022 Meditation is an important form of prayer in the Catholic faith. Last week our St Thomas School staff participated in a 2-hour Meditation Workshop, looking at why we have Meditation in our Catholic schools and the connections it has to the Religious Education Curriculum, School Vision and Mission, Brisbane Catholic Education Formation Framework, personal well being and the Good Samaritan charism. The school has a a whole school approach to meditating where, three days a wee...k for 5 minutes, everyone on campus (staff, students, visitors) stops to take time for themselves. It is a time to nurture their faith formation and foster their well being. Do you practice meditation as a part of your day? We'd love to hear about your own meditation practices and how you incorporate them into your busy lives. "God speaks in the silence of the heart." ~ Mother Teresa

22.01.2022 I wanted to thank the parish for their warm and sincere wishes to my mum (Joan Burlew) on the event of her 95th birthday. As you know she has the heart of a se...rvant. She has served as a volunteer for many organisations over her time and the good Lord has seen fit to bless her with a long life. She loves the St Thomas' parish. You play a significant part of her life and I wanted to offer my sincere thanks to you all. David Burlew Melbourne

22.01.2022 Truth! But definitely worth it to see the church filling up again

22.01.2022 This weekend we welcome the children in our community who are commencing their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We look forward to sharing this special time with them and ask you to keep them in your prayers. Lord, ... You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people, so that they may believe in You and in Jesus, whom You sent. Look kindly on all candidates for Confirmation as they listen to Your voice. Open their hearts to Your Spirit and bring to fulfilment the good work that You have begun in them. As we prepare these children for Confirmation, make each of us an instrument of Your love. Teach us to appreciate what is holy in others, and to be patient with what we do not understand. Deepen our faith in the Gospel and help us to pass it on by our example. We pray that You will continue to guide us and sustain us. Through Christ our Lord, Amen. See more

21.01.2022 Today we celebrate the feast of our patron, St Thomas the Apostle. It is easy to be a doubting Thomas, especially during difficult times. May we reflect on the words of our parish prayer which remind us how important our community is in keeping our faith strong. Heavenly Father, ... We give thanks for the gift of our parish community. May all who gather here know that they are loved, valued and welcomed with open arms. We pray that you encourage us to give witness to faith and proclaim the gospel values of love, forgiveness, compassion, hospitality and justice. Help us to be instruments of peace and healing to all of creation, as we celebrate Your goodness and mercy. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our St Thomas' Sculpture, which stands proudly between the church and school, was created following the dedication of our new Church in 2012. It is based on a painting by Brenda Bettinson. 20.01.2022 Last week over three busy nights, the Grade 3 children in our community were sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit as they celebrated their confirmation. Thanks also to Sr Analissa, the Sacramental Team and Grade 3 teachers for their support in preparing the children and the Liturgy, as well as our Liturgy Team for creating such a beautiful environment for the celebrations. We give thanks to God for this great occasion in the life of our parish and pray for these children as they grow in faith.

13.01.2022 We wish a very HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all the dads, and father figures, in our community. This year we asked Mike Armstrong, our Principal at St Thomas Primary School to reflect on what being a father means to him: Fathers Day Reflection by Mike Armstrong... The ten days or so leading up to Fathers Day each year are traditionally a very hectic time in the Armstrong household, with all three of our boys celebrating their birthdays in close succession (the youngest turned 7 yesterday). Our boys excitedly refer to this special time of year as the festival of birthdays, and the challenge for us as parents is to try and make sure each of the boys has a special day, and birthday cake! Needless to say, by the time Fathers Day comes around, it ends up being a pretty low-key affair. But Im more than ok with that. The constellation of these special occasions always triggers much reflection for me as a dad, and of course creates the ideal conditions for some storytelling! I am known as a bit of a waffler in the family, and like most dads, I love telling dad yarns around the dinner table, especially during the festival of birthdays. Most of these yarns commence with, I remember when you were or When I was your age. More often than not, photos are then presented as evidence, and are accompanied by lots of laughs and moments of awe and wonder at just how far they have come. Theres no more special time as a parent than these moments. To me, being a father is the ultimate job in life. I want to be most successful at being a good dad. It means everything to me and has been my greatest source of achievement and pride. Celebrating in their accomplishments and being with them on their journey is priceless. As a new father, you think you know what you are going to do and how you will handle most situations. And then you get into the situation and realise you have no clue. Thats the best part learning on the fly. The highs and the lows are a part of the journey. As a new dad, I didnt realise just how much I would change, and just how much I would learn from my kids. When you become a parent you truly see life in full colour for the first time. Being a dad has taught me the most important of life lessons; patience, unconditional love and the need to be fully present. My boys continue to teach me about myself every day. I am so very blessed!

02.01.2022 This week - after an unexpected interruption earlier in the year - Sr Analissa finally celebrated the 25th anniversary of professing her religious vows. The celebrations were not as originally planned but still a memorable way to mark the occasion. It started with a special Parish morning tea after mass last Sunday where friends from the parish gathered to celebrate and give thanks for her service. We also celebrated Sr Belen who is marking 50 years since joining the conve...nt. On Tuesday, Bishop Oudeman celebrated a special mass in our church on the Solemnity of the Holy Conception. This was followed by a beautiful (& plentiful!) lunch in the parish hall. Thanks to Sr Analissa and Sr Salvacion for hosting a great event and thanks to our wonderful parishioners who are always happy to help out. Sr Analissa was joined by friends from near and far including a number of priests and brothers - Fr Peter Casey and Fr Tom Zaranski among them. Congratulations Sr Analissa! We thank you for your faithful service, your kindness, generosity and calm nature. We wish you every blessing on your Silver Jubilee and always.
