10.01.2022 Another beautiful afternoon, photographicly speaking, at Bribie Island, Queensland, Australia.

09.01.2022 Managed to also pick up a bronze award in the Open Portrait catagory. I don't normally go for the portrait competitions, but for some reason thought I would this year - and surprisingly it scored better than my landscapes. Mind you, the one photo that I entered that I thought was one of my best for the year, got a horrible score. But thats life I guess!!

07.01.2022 Managed to pick up a Bronze Award at the Creative Asia Awards. The silver and gold keep eluding me. Still, not bad for what was just an outing with the kids.

01.01.2022 Bribie Island is only about 20 minutes from home, and as such features prominently in my photographic project 'An Hour From Home'. This project is aimed at exploring the local environment, whether it be natural or man made. Bribie Island has a lot of variety from WWII bunkers to marine park and conservation areas. It is also a great recreational spot for fishing, boating, & camping.

01.01.2022 Some thoughts on creative process: Locations. I was out for a bit of a drive with the kids the other day, and we came across this beautiful little spot. I grabbed a few shots as a reference and a creative beginning. A shot like this is not creative or artistic as such, but it gives me something to think about. I was not in a position to really photograph the spot properly but as soon as I saw it I thought about the possibilities and the photographic potential. The advantage ...for me is that a this place is only a few minutes from home so I can return time and time again. This is good as I thought about how this place would look early morning, with mist rising off the water, or a full moon with a bit of cloud movement in the sky. What about light painting the forest behind the pond, or the sunset coming through the trees and reflecting off the water. As part of my creative process I will keep note of these things as a reminder so that when the opportunity is there, I can grab it. For me it is a bit like the landscape equivalent of preparing for a portrait shoot, just that I have to wait for the elements to cooperate with me. It is an important part of the photographic process, which is just as important as having charged batteries and clean lenses. I have a number of places on my project list just like this one, with the ideas just waiting for the right time to capture the vision that I have. Luckily they are all within 'an hour of home'.
