24.01.2022 Mick Thomas - Australia's folk-punk poet troubadour - brought his Roving Commission to the Bundy Hall on Nov 16th to play new tracks, songs about his love and also hate of Xmas, Weddings Parties Anything classics, and a special covers set. Despite covering two of his songs with my band The Cheeky Docs, I have never seen Mick live and it was a treat. As a boy from Nhill, it was also amusing to hear his anecdote of sitting in the pub in Nhill and writing a song about a boy who moved to the city to give music a go. Khristian Mizzi - reformed Moe resident - played tracks off his brand new album as support.
22.01.2022 Third gig for Lachy Doley at the Bundy, 88th show for Live At The Bundy and the last one on the original stage before the renovations commence. Steve Cousins opened the night with a set of looped guitar/drum pad/piano and violin tracks. Lachy and the band were on fire and as you'll see looked to be having a blast. Rhythm section Byron Goodwin and Chris Pearson were locked in tight while Lachy wrung every note out of the Hammond and whammy clav.
22.01.2022 With a couple of hours notice that a band was to be born, Bill Barber launched his new project, The Holding Cell, playing alt-country with the help of a motley crew you would usually see playing the blues. They've got a good thing going! I jumped up to jam with Bill in his last set, but you'll have to verify that over at @seandisphotos cos I can't photograph myself playing.
20.01.2022 Tick another one off the bucket list - Phil Jamieson, front man of rock band Grinspoon, brought a guitar, some stories, and a huge back catalogue of hits to the Bundy for the second big rock show to hit the hall in 2 weeks. Local band Drive The Night ditched their drummer and their covers set and played a show of mostly original songs, and they didn't do Khe Sanh!
16.01.2022 Wendy Matthews & Grace Knight have both played the Bundy in their own right, but last Saturday they teamed up for a special experiment, playing Paul Simon's greatest hits. Amazingly, a 4-piece band managed to recreate the sounds of Simon & Garfunkel's folk hits, through to Graceland's African rhythms. Imogen Price came back for a second time supporting Wendy and played a confident set of originals and covers.
15.01.2022 It was great to have Dom Turner back at the Bundy, this time with the Turner Brown Band, blending blues and gospel and getting the Bundy pumping! Support was Cats In The Kitchen with their own spin on some crowd favourites.
13.01.2022 Honestly, I could photograph, and rave about, these guys every weekend! This was gig #83 for Live At The Bundy, gig #8 at The Bundy for the Black Sorrows. The band were in amazing form, with Joe going the full voodoo priest / circus ringmaster / shaman and the guys clearly enjoying themselves on stage. The gig ended on a poignant note as Joe raised a glass to his brother who had passed away that morning. Support was Wilson Blackley - a rockstar in the making from Poowong.
11.01.2022 This night was why I love being a part of the Live At The Bundy crew. - Jade Empress. Local girl, doctor and popstar brought her band to open the night. I had been 'threatening' to meet Jade in person for some time but we'd never managed to meet until last night. With her family and singing teacher in attendance, Jade had a a few fans ready-made, but she won the crowd over with her soaring vocals and pop tunes. - Hanne Kah. None of us knew who they were, but the Bundy punte...rs took a chance and came out to see a really tight band out of Germany playing pop/rock/folk. Undeterred by a power failure about 32 bars in to the first song, they regrouped and by the end of the night I think the Bundy had adopted drummer "Wally!" - I got to see two really creative drummers doing some interesting stuff. - to top it all off, the night was run as a fundraiser for the East Gippsland fires and through ticket sales, raffles and donations a total of $9692 was raised for the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund. 10.01.2022 Saturday night took me out to the Bundy Hall to shoot Mike Elrington, playing with drummer Roderick McLeod, as he returned to the Bundy Hall for the 6th time, his first time as a headliner. As you will see, Mike is a joy to photograph as he telegraphs every emotion. His version of Chris Wilson's "You Will Surely Love Again" had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. Support was provided by Warragul's Lara Travis, who had some beautiful tunes about some very colourful characters, a few 'blue' tunes and a kick-arse version of Stagger Lee - called Linda Lee. Check her out if you get the chance (but don't take the kids!)
09.01.2022 Motor Ace rocked the Bundy last night and donated their fee to Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund: Along with all other money raised on the night $8060.80 was raised to support those affected by the current bushfires. Local punks Two Last Names opened the show with a set of original tunes and lots of yelling. I loved it!
06.01.2022 I'll be at my work Xmas party tomorrow night so there will be no official pics of this event. If you want to see (and hear) Eurogliders you have to be at Live at the Bundy in person, no vicarious enjoyment through my lens on Monday next week!
02.01.2022 On Sunday I attended the launch of an amazing book, Pauline Bailey's "Blues Portrait: A profile of the Australian blues scene." The book features interviews with local, national and international blues musicians about their relationship with the blues and why they do what they do. Kerri Simpson launched the book and Checkerboard Lounge played their butts off afterwards. I am very fortunate to be included in the book both as an artist interview, and also with a few of my pictures illustrating other artists' stories. 01.01.2022 Come along to Live at the Bundy tomorrow night to the Hanne Kah (Germany) / Jade Empress / East Gippy Fires Fundraiser. The Bundy are covering all costs so every dollar through the door and on the raffle etc is going to bushfire relief. I'm donating a 40x50cm print of any one of my photos for the raffle.
