24.01.2022 Great move by the NSW Transport Minister. Hobart should follow suit and make a clean green statement. #cleanenergy #cleanpublictransport #zeroemissionbuses https://www.abc.net.au//nsw-transport-minister-r/11644694

16.01.2022 Looking forward to Our Houses talks tonight at Brickworks at Franklin Wharf. The Mount Stuart Greenhouse (Bence Mulcahy) and Balmain Rock (Benn+Penno) should be very interesting projects to hear about with their clients. Having previously delivered an Our Houses seminar in Melbourne on the Arm End House, these discussions give real insight into successful client-architect relationships. Thank you to Archimedia & Brickworks for supporting our profession around the country. ...Katelin Butler #brickworks #ourhouses Architectural Media http://designspeaks.com.au/events/2019/10/23/our-houses See more

12.01.2022 The Australian Urban Design Awards shortlist has been announced and from a pool of 70 entries, 38 projects have been shortlisted. It is disappointing that not one of these shortlisted projects is Tasmanian, which is no reflection on the quality of Urban Design emanating from our local practitioners - more a direct reflection of the lack of vision and commitment by our State and Local Governments to urban design excellence for our cities and towns. A general gap in understandi...ng exists within Tasmanian State and Local Governments of the huge value that innovative urban spaces and places bring to our quality of life and our sense of civic pride. I publicly call on our State Government and all local government bodies in Tasmania to better engage with the great pool of professional design excellence we have in Tasmania, to foster much needed improvement in our urban environments, including public infrastructure and transport systems. Our State Government needs to get serious about its submissions to Infrastructure Australia to highlight the urgent need (particularly in Hobart) for urban improvement and better infrastructure. This will require significant Federal investment in order to ensure our future is an inspiring one. It will also require implementation, not just another announcement of another "study". The time has arrived for the myriad of past urban studies undertaken on our capital to begin to be realised through activation of design excellence. This implementation will promote employment in construction, quality private investment and trickle down economics. The opportunities to resolve our metropolitan problems and bring our urban places to life through proper resourcing and investment in urban/infrastructure design are clearly there. I believe a targeted urban design vision is a pivotal component of a healthy and proud environment for Tasmanian urban living. https://landscapeaustralia.com//shortlist-revealed-2018-/

10.01.2022 Congratulations to Abbie Galvin for her appointment to NSW Government Architect and also to the NSW Minister for Planning and Public Spaces for his appointment of Abbie to the role. This shows a Government who clearly understands the crucial role that design plays in our built environment and the importance of having a professional at the helm to guide policy. This is progression. Tasmania remains the only state in the country without a State Architect or anyone in that type ...of role. At a time when there is much debate in Tasmania, especially the capital Hobart, around low cost housing solutions, homelessness, Macquarie Point's purpose & direction, traffic congestion, our lack of public transport systems, population growth, tourism pressure and building heights in Hobart's CBD, such a role would help bring clarity and stewardship to the issues that affect us all. We need this office reinstated in Tasmania and to not do so is regression. #tasmanianstatearchitect https://architectureau.com//nsw-appoints-female-governmen/ See more

01.01.2022 This month STA turns 20. We wish to thank all our wonderful clients who have worked with us over the years as well as the engineers, planners, consultants, builders and other contractors who work so hard to help bring our client's proposals to fruition. Some of our most enriching experiences come from working closely alongside these people and the professional working relationships we have built over the years are pivotal to a projects's success. Following are some photos fro...m a few select projects completed during this time. We look forward to pursuing upcoming new projects and gaining deeper insight into architecture as a practice with each one.
