23.01.2022 Stuart Town Anzac Committee Remembrance Day 2020 As we commemorate 102 years since the end of World War I, the Stuart Town Anzac Day Committee are humbled to share the following news with our community and veteran community.... Private Thomas (Tom) Cohen 2nd Battalion of Stuart Town NSW was killed in action, September 1918 and was buried in France with ‘No Known Grave’. 102 years later through the hard work of the Fallen Diggers Incorporated, the Australian Army and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Private Tom Cohen has been located and identified in an ‘unknown soldier’ grave in France. Work will now commence with Tom’s family to give him a formal headstone in his resting place in France. Tom’s name appears on the Stuart Town Memorial Gates ‘Roll of Honour’ and his family still reside in the local area. May we remember all of our fallen this Remembrance Day. Lest We Forget

More than 100 years later his grave has been identified and he will be given a new headstone with his name and service details. Private Cohen is one of five diggers, originally buried as unknown soldiers, who has been identified. His nephew's wife, Carmel Cohen, says it's marvellous news. "For years we've wondered, we've just been left wondering where he was and would we ever find out anything."
