09.05.2022 We have received word from the NCAA that due to the current world situation, some changes have been made to the eligibility process to accommodate students impacted by by Covid-19 restrictions. 29.04.2022 Some excellent news for Tasmanian students today as the NCAA has advised that the following Tasmanian subjects are now considered suitable for inclusion as a "core course": Applied Math approved as a mathematics core course. Math Bridge approved as a mathematics core course. General Mathematics (taken in in years 11 and 12) approved as a mathematics core course.... Maths Methods Foundations (taken in years 11 and 12) approved as a mathematics core course. Life Science (taken in years 11 and 12) approved as a natural/physical science core course. Physical Science Foundation (taken in years 11 and 12) approved as a natural/physical science core course. Intro to Sociology and Psychology (taken in years 11 and 12) approved as a social science core course. Legal Studies Foundation (taken in years 11 and 12) approved as a social science core course. Religious Education Strand 3 (taken in years nine and 10) approved as an additional core course. Religion and Philosophy Strand 3 (taken in years nine and 10) approved as an additional core course. Studies in Religion (taken in year 12 only) approved as an additional core course. Previously the words "General" and "Foundation" were problematic for the NCAA however after analysing the course content they have now made the decision to certify the courses as compliant. We had several discussions with the NCAA regarding the Tasmanian mathematics curriculum and it would appear from the latest update that we are not alone so well done to the parents and possibly the Department of Education for pushing this through. As always, if any parents or potential student athletes would like to discuss academic pathways to playing college sport in the United States, don't hesitate to drop us a line.
23.04.2022 If you live in the Kingston area and you've ever wondered what gridiron is all about, now is your chance to come along and check it out as the UTAS Devils Gala Day touches down at Lightwood Park on 30 November for two huge games. Entry is free with game one kicking off at 11:00am.
09.04.2022 Dance - is it an NCAA sport? Not yet, at NCAA level at least, although some NAIA universities are beginning to offer it. The biggest roadblock at present is that to be recognised as a sport by the NCAA (and therefore allow scholarships to be offered), an emerging sport needs to satisfy a number of requirements, including that there is an ongoing "season" with at least five rounds of competition that includes standings and rankings. It is this requirement for a "season" tha...t is standing in the way at present. There is a lot of push at the moment for dance to be recognised as a sport by the NCAA and if that happens, you'll hear about it first right here. Australia has sent a lot of basketballers and baseballers to the United States over the years but if dance becomes an NCAA sport they're going to need extra planes because Australia has some of the best in the world!
