17.01.2022 Congratulations to my students Alice Fang and Angela Sun from my Acceleration Studio last semester @ColumbiaGSAPP - winners of the Buell Center Paris Prize 2019. Their project was selected as the highest for best "complying with, interpreting, and/or critically extending the terms and spirit of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, by combining the social, technical, political, and symbolic implications of the climate accord in an architecturally specific fashion, at multipl...e scales. Announcement: Slow Water" Alice Fang & Angela Sun, Critic: Daisy Ames Due to the lack of access to regular maintenance and inability for water infrastructure to adapt to increased population growth and change in climate, Slow Water puts forth a new model for collecting, cleaning, and delivering water to residents in the South Bronx. Borrowing from cultures celebrating water as a holistic performance with the body, such as Japan with onsens/sentos, water became the main vessel for enhancing health. This proposal for future living provides housing for single mothers sharing lifestyles and goals of raising their children within a supportive community, pushing for parent-child and parent-community interpersonal relationships guided by a spectrum of individual and shared water experiences. Our project hopes to bridge something beyond an economic model of housing sustainability, striving for human driven empathetic spaces. 02.01.2022 With the reclaimed hours not spent on the subway each day, I designed a house for @_wip_studio’s Women In Practice presentation as a way to visualize the values of my practice, and think through some ideas about quarantine, physical distancing, and social solidarity. I have been inspired by the *many* zoom conversations around labor and domesticity, especially as we all take work calls from our tiny #nyc apartments. Many of Studio Ames’ techniques in this 24-hour challeng...e to myself (to design a #stayathome house) advocate for new ways we can live together, and are optimistic for how architecture can be the medium by which we experience autonomy and collectivity through essential elements of architecture i.e. a continuous curtain and the #rcp that supports it.
