24.01.2022 Yay. Just completed my first Zoom teaching. A lady who’s in lockdown in Melbourne contacted me about learning watercolour. It was a great opportunity to test some of the video techniques I’m developing to start on line teaching. Watch this space ... (And if you’re interested in being part of test group for video series, or you’d like a zoom lesson yourself, let me know) See more

19.01.2022 This is a great tutorial. Of course, there's always more to know about a subject such as bookbinding, but this is well presented. I have found a couple of store bought sketchbooks that suit me, but one of these days I'm doing to work through with this.

19.01.2022 Best make sure we leave our best palette out if someone's going to look at it in thousands of years' time !

15.01.2022 This has such a lot of information about BLUE. Great read.

15.01.2022 Working on this first series of on-line lessons. Really enjoying this process. Not the least because I’m creating new learning resources. Like this little pic. Soft edges when I was doing it that felt wrong. But a week or so later I realise not. Happy days

12.01.2022 The historical aspect of pigments is a continual exploration.

10.01.2022 I’d have to say yes to all of the points raised here.

08.01.2022 For those of you who've been in my classes last year and at other times, I'm doing a free artist talk this weekend coming at the Lismore Art Space. I'll have original work with me, rather than just a slideshow, because as you know, my Gympie show got hung but didn't stay open. I'll be talking about some of the paintings, my inspiration, and about how I do them. But it will depend on the audience about what proportions of each. The Art Space will need to adhere to social dis...tancing, so there's only space for about 30 people. Best to get there promptly for a 2 pm start, but more importantly - let them know via this event. Look forward to seeing you. PS - haven't thought about any teaching at all this year. But if it happens you'll be the first to know. Happy painting.

07.01.2022 We didn’t actually name foreshortening when we did our drawing workshop. But this is hilarious !

06.01.2022 Working with Blues today. Testing a variety of different tube blues. Posted it onto Instagram, will put it here too, when I’ve more conclusive results. Then I thought I’d do a bit of hashtag-tango. Came across this article about Ultramarine Blue. Most interesting. https://workshopsinfrance.com//ultramarine-blue-and-its-a/

03.01.2022 Graphic and excellent advice for my printmaking friends.

02.01.2022 So it's been an interesting year with no face to face classes. Next year is shaping up to be a different kettle of fish completely. Thrilled to be asked to teach at the Grafton 5 day Art School in April 2021. This is now being run by the fabulous Kerrie Bowles from the Cowper Art Gallery and Studio. I'm teaching a printmaking class that I call " Fifty ways to print your etching". Yes, if you're humming THAT song then you'll know why I called it that. ... It's a workshop that is a collection of the many many ways to ink, wipe and print an etching/drypoint before we need to change the plate. I've tried to teach this in three days and it doesn't work - but five days will be just right. Ten new techniques/variations each day, over five days. That's going to be one exciting and comprehensive learning folder we'll develop. Some people will just play with experiments and build up their resource folder, others will work on their own artwork as well. The etching I've put here is from a few years ago. It's a metal etching, using multi-plate techniques, using coloured ink, and one of the three choices we have for edges. Though you won't be making plates from metal in the workshop (bring your own pre-etched plates, or make a simple drypoint), I will show you how I printed this image. You'll be able to take that information back into your own studio to create and enjoy. "Moondreamer" multi plate colour etching, 5x7cm Whichever way it will be fun. This workshop suits: - beginning artists, (printmaking is soooo much fun) - beginning printmakers (if you're a painter, drawer, or sculptor printmaking will suit you too) - experienced printmakers (I'll add to what you know and give you an opportunity to tweak and refine your skills) Contact Kerrie directly through her website, or message me if you have any questions about the content or suitability. https://fayboydsfineartschool.com/.../2021-christine.../

02.01.2022 Such a lot to learn. How much fun am I having at present

02.01.2022 This is a very interesting read.

01.01.2022 Oooh. Interesting !

01.01.2022 To those of you who've been in my painting classes, I often talk about the construction of a painting. About how the thing that's in the middle of the painting will be seen easily. I use Andrew Wyeth's painting "Christina's World" to illustrate my theory. This is about the island, the painting, and the influence of Andrew Wyeth's wife to his practice.
