25.01.2022 We had the opportunity to visit one of our recently completed projects in Gladesville. We felt this image of the white sheer curtains floating in the breeze captures the seamless indoor & outdoor connections to its surrounding. The highlight windows invite the sky into the home.

24.01.2022 We like to congratulate our client for being granted DA approval for their proposed alterations and additions to their residence in Cammeray by North Sydney Council. The steel framed and light constructed addition aims to be a subtle blend of style and sophistication yet respecting the character and charm of Cammeray.

24.01.2022 'Glow in the Dark' @ Tennyson Point. We added some garden lighting to complement the house.

24.01.2022 We like to thank our client for spurring us on to find a design solution in refining the front facade to our project in Concord. From a design perspective, we knew the facade needed further development. However sometimes it involves a client perspectives to ignite the light bulb moment. In this instance, our design needed a recess niche to break the horizontal elements of the concrete slab edge. The addtional articulation to the front facade did wonders. The entry consisits of a large pivot door wrapping up to form the entry awning. Good outcome with bit of perseverance and team work.

23.01.2022 The off-form concrete angled columns has been recently poured at our project in Concord. What makes this project unique is the plunge pool and alfresco space are centrally located separating two sections of the home. Rather than typically having the window outlook towards its neighbour. This design aims to create a private oasis and focus your attention centrally towards the pool area to create a 'resort style' environment.

23.01.2022 'Shades of light' - The glass roof casting light at various angles to accentuate the internal roof form at Queens Park House #studiojlaworkinprogress

22.01.2022 Our metal roofing for our project at Queens Park has been recently installed. The metal roofing from #maxline roofing with its standing seam profile has the appearance of a zinc roof yet a fraction of the cost. The installation process is similar to installing a zinc roof in requiring a plywood base before being installation. We also found out that many solar roof panels with their standard brackets are not designed to be fitted on this metal roof profile. So solar panels mu...st sit flat or custom brackets are required. We chose the colour 'monument' in a matte finish which gives the dull look of zinc roofing and works well with the concrete roof tiles. #steelroofingsupplycentre #csrmonier #revolutionroofing

21.01.2022 A tribute to Janine in Northern District Times. We miss you .

15.01.2022 Houzz Insights: The Most-Saved Photos During Lockdown @StudioJLAarchitect https://www.houzz.com.au//insights-the-most-saved-photos-d Living Rooms ... Location: Sydney, NSW Designer: Justin Loe Architects Standout features: A television (that many would argue, was very necessary during lockdown) integrated beautifully into a feature wall.

15.01.2022 BACK TO BASICS Sometimes we feel it is a matter of getting "Back to Basics" when it comes to sustainable design. With a design approach to maximise solar access during the cooler periods while designing elements to provide shade during the hotter parts of the day. We are always pleasantly surprised how comfortable this house is without air conditioning for heating and cooling.... Here is our list of design considerations ; * Glazing = Maximize north facing windows with low E / Double Glazing * Eaves = To protect glazing from the midday sun yet sized to allow solar access in the morning * Protection = External adjustable blinds & adjustable louver roof to protect glazing from the low angle afternoon sun yet provide solar access control * Floor = Polished concrete slab for high thermal mass * Materials = use of low embodied energy such as timber framing & cladding *Construction = Reverse brick construction for high thermal mass *Insulation = To control heat loads and improve thermal comfort trough and peaks *Ceiling fans = assist with good air flow and cross ventilation *Pool = Cooling element close to residence #sustainabledesign #sustainablearchitecture #archilovers #architecture #ecohome

15.01.2022 Queens Park House - Very cool handles by Lo & Co Interiors, an Australian architectural hardware studio. Very impressed with the quality, finish and attention to detail.

14.01.2022 This image of our Tennyson Point residence brings together the harmony between the architectural form and the landscape. The design consists of a series of cantilevered elements that extend to cantilevered deck perched over the pool. The garden consists of a series of timber screened and sandstone terraces designed to complement the natural rock formations. It was a joy to work with Peter and Mitch to create the backdrop to a home which we can sit back and be proud.... #stunningsurrounds #studiojla #studiojladesign

08.01.2022 Final review of finishes for the joinery package prior to fabrication. Capturing the many layers and elements with the joinery documentation and checking it feels coherent with the rest of the interior finishes. A client with a young family, our materials choice was to blend both style and practicality. We think the grey and oak tones work really well in balancing our harsh warm sunlight. #joinerydesign #interiordesign #wk_qantumquartz #polytec #tonguengrooveau

04.01.2022 For our Queens Park house, we have explored the use of curves. The curved roofline follows the curved wall below. A curved horizontal venetian blind shall wrap around the rear facade to provide privacy and thermal.control.

03.01.2022 V House is taking shape with exposed concrete framed shell completed. Can't wait for the scaffold to be removed to reveal the cantilevered pool element.

03.01.2022 ' Making an entrance ' The journey begins the moment you enter, a reflective pond leads its occupants towards the residence. 02.01.2022 Thank you to our clients Connie and Shawn for their lovely review on Houzz : We finished our house renovation/extension with Justin and his team in 2019. Justin's architectural designs are aesthetic and practical, taking into account the location and natural lighting, successfully blending our home's period features with a modern light filled extension. The teams he works with are helpful and professional. The builder (Erik) and his team were excellent and executed our vi...sion for our home very well. As with any home renovation, the process can get complicated and unexpected things will occur from time to time. Dealing with the council, suppliers, tradespeople and neighbours also have their challenges. As a client, whilst it's always a good idea to spend plenty of time planning out the details and have a clear and realistic idea of what you want, having Justin to guide the project from start to finish was invaluable. 01.01.2022 Today is the saddest moment for our office. Our dear friend and colleague Janine has recently passed away. She was our 'super mum' for being able to balance between her many family commitments, helping the community & friends and while at the same time assist in running our office. We feel her lack of presence in everything we do but are deeply grateful for developing the foundations to allow us to be creative and to follow our passion.... We miss her dearly but assured she will continue to guide us from above. Rest in Peace Justin.
