25.01.2022 Whats capturing your attention right now? If youve been finding it challenging to connect with your community lately, the advice I have been giving to all of my clients is this. Take a few moments to really think about:... what is troubling your audience most? what does your audience desire most? so you can better meet them where they are at with your message. In my experience and regardless of what is going on in the world, the best way to encourage your message to be heard is to show your audience that you are listening to them, and that you understand them. And once you unlock this understanding, your content - and of course the messages you use to promote your products / services - can be created to nurture and serve your community with what they actually need from you right now. 25.01.2022 When it comes to selling, this is my best ever advice. Dont sell the result of buying what you have to offer. Instead - sell the feeling that someone will experience when they buy what you have to offer. The end result of what you have to offer is sometimes too big and overwhelming for people to have the courage to step in to - and spend their money on.... But if you sell the feeling that your product or service creates, it lowers the barrier of intimidation and creates an environment that the customer can identify with. And when a customer sees themselves in your product or service - they feel affirmed and encouraged to take up what you have to offer. For example, I dont sell branding. I sell helping people achieve something they are dreaming of - which promotes feelings of support and self belief - arguably two of the biggest factors that contribute to achieving success when starting and growing a business. 22.01.2022 When I chose to pivot my own business 3 years ago, it was so I could make my emotional and physical wellbeing a priority again. But at that time, I had no idea how profound the impact would be on who I am as a person and the life I live today. Im stronger more clarified more confident and more fulfilled in the work I do. And I thought Id share this with you, because although the process of pivoting was not easy, it turned out to be one of the best decisio...ns I ever made. So if youre thinking of pivoting right now, here are some tips from me, having come through the other side of the pivoting experience! never forget, YOU are in control of what your new looks like. Use this time and incredible opportunity you have to design a life YOU truely love, not what someone else expects of you. try to avoid pivoting in to things that arent aligned with whats actually important to you as a person. Your clients / customers can see right through this, and it translates in to inauthenticity (that icky feeling you get when you come across a business that just doesnt seem right...) know your financial obligations first, make a plan to clear the deck and stick to it. Every day you move toward transitioning yourself from one place to another is a day closer to your financial goals. and just do one thing at a time. 21.01.2022 So much more than just a pretty picture... Creating a moodboard is an essential step in my strategic process, and the vision for every new brand (or rebrand) I work on begins here. 19.01.2022 Yesterday I talked about the power of selling the feeling of what you offer, not the thing or the result itself. But how do you actually unlock what those feelings are? Heres a couple of things you can do to figure out all the feels.... Really vividly imagine your perfect customer / client. How do you want them to feel while they are experiencing what you have to offer, as opposed to how they feel when theyve achieved the benefit you provide? Or, if youre lucky enough to have current customers / clients, ask them to tell you! How does your product / service make them feel when they are experiencing it? Lets use moi as an example again When I think about my perfect client, while they are working with me, I want them to feel: - confident - full of self belief - supported - optimistic and the most overwhelming feedback I get from my clients over the journey of working with me is that they feel inspired So this is what I promote! Not branding or strategy - any old person can promote that - Im all about confidence, support and the belief that anything and everything is possible. 19.01.2022 Step one to creating your own brand strategy - define your why. To me, knowing your why is like having a secret sauce. Its a kind of magical essence that runs through everything you do as a business that inspires people to the idea of something better when they buy from you, thats more than just consumption. It excites them and helps them to see themselves, or the person they want to become reflected in what you have to offer. And it creates a sense of purpo...se beyond profits that will sustain the life of your business and legacy for years to come. But how do you go about defining your why? Its actually more simple than you might think. These are the questions I ask my clients to help them figure it out: - what in business or life brings you the greatest joy? - if you had unlimited money / time / resources, what would you do? - what do you want to be most remembered for? I often find that in answering these questions, there are distinct crossovers that reveal the true, deep, internal motivation within the people I work with - otherwise known as their why! My why is to guide people to see the potential within themselves and inspire them to reach for the stars Whats yours? 18.01.2022 Let me take you inside the vision I have for my business - this is my brand strategy! Its an inspiring statement that guides everything that I do and dream of doing with the incredible opportunity and privilege I have as a design entrepreneur. Its not a lengthy document that gathers dust on my shelf. Instead, its a powerful, energetic statement that is active in every business and communication decision I make, every project I choose to work on, and ev...ery initiative I put in place to make the experience of working with me even more profound for my clients. And most importantly, it inspires me to think bigger - especially as the new year comes around! When you have clarity on why you do what you do, what makes you special and where you want to go - creating and growing a business becomes much more simple. 17.01.2022 Lets get in to step two of creating your own brand strategy today = defining your values. I like to think of values as being the guiding lights that show you the pathway to fulfillment and achieving your greatest successes in work and life. When you know what they are and live by them, it creates a sense of peace and harmony in your mind - and as a consequence, do your best and most purpose driven work. And as I was saying to my gorgeous friend and client, Mel of... @erosomorphos yesterday, customers can feel when youre not working from an authentic, values based place - so not knowing them is one of the things that can hold you back from your true greatness. There is so much brilliant content out there in the world about how to define your values, but here are the questions I find helpful to ask my clients, to uncover this essential ingredient when creating their brand strategy: - what are the things in life that you feel most positively passionate about? And what gets you angry? - what experiences in life have shaped the person you are today? - what endeavours in your life create feelings of fulfilment? - whats non-negotiable (or like to be non-negotiable) in your life? What would you never consider compromising on? The answers to these questions point me to the values that are deeply important to my clients to stand for as a person, and therefore how they should communicate authentically as a brand. 17.01.2022 The last piece of the brand puzzle key messages Key messages are the culmination of all of the brand strategy work you have done, where we bring YOU and your customer together in a beautiful conversation Well at least I like to think of it in that way ... What were really doing is finding ways to bring your why, your values and your value together to create a connection with the person you want to sell to. 15.01.2022 OK - lets get right in to the deep stuff now and talk all things brand strategy. Brand strategy is one of those things that sounds more complicated than it actually is. To me, having a brand strategy is about deeply knowing:... - the big idea behind your business = I call this knowing your why - whats important to you and what youll stand proudly for = your values - whats special and unique about you = your value - whos life you want to improve = your desired customer - the core messages you can use to inspire people to connect with and relate to all of the above Im going to go in to each of these things separately over the next few days, but for the moment, I simply want to explain how having a brand strategy can seriously positively impact your business: - it forces you to get clear on what your actual priorities are, and stops you from spending time and money on the things that are a distraction from your purpose - it builds your confidence and empowers you to believe that what you have to share with the world is worthy - it turns the dream you have in to a practical road map that shows you the path to success - it makes attracting and retaining customers so much easier. 14.01.2022 I was really inspired by a post @the.founders.team shared this morning to share a few facts about myself too - and how my business came to be! I find it interesting to reflect on my upbringing and how the things I experienced as a child so positively influenced who I am today and why I do what I do. Did you know any of these things about me?... I started my business when I was 21 years old while still at uni. When I graduated, I felt that to go and work for someone else wasnt the path I was supposed to take - so I set up a desk at home, joined a few networking groups, and the rest is history! That was almost 16 years ago the thing I absolutely love the most about being a designer is that I get to be a part of helping people to achieve their greatest dreams Its a privilege I am thankful for every day. I was a very creative child. My most vivid memories are of making crafts at home, visiting art galleries with my Aunty, and spending my lunchtimes at high school in the photography darkroom (an old fashioned place where we actually processed film and printed photos... ) The inspiration for my business name comes from my love of fresh food markets, which to me are abundant, beautiful places to visit. 12.01.2022 I woke up this morning to find out that its #womensentrepreneurshipday day, and I dont even know where to begin to express my gratitude Almost 16 years ago, I decided to go out on my own while I was still finishing the honours year of my degree. 10.01.2022 How I reset my relationship with social media If you caught my story yesterday, you would have heard me chatting about the little break I took from social media, and how doing that positively impacted my life. I thought Id share a bit about the most profound changes that I made, and how they helped me to be more focussed, productive and creative! I turned off ALL notifications.... This in itself had a huge impact on my concentration; I felt I was more focussed in everything I was working on, and I got my work done much faster! Hello more free time And really, 99.9% of stuff in life you dont actually need to know about the second in happens anyway... I physically moved my phone away from me. When it was out of sight, out of mind, I noticed how little I actually needed my phone. This had the flow on effect on how I chose to use my time in a more thoughtful way - even the smallest of moments. Have you ever noticed how much you go to your phone out of habit and boredom, when you have as little as a minute to spare? I didnt realise I did this until I created this new habit... I made some decisions and took back control over how I want to feel when Im using social media. Ive decided that: Im only going to do it if Im having fun my only measures of success will be to put out good quality, thoughtful and useful content, and hopefully it reaches and positively impacts someone in some small way that the science and metrics behind posting are actually not that important to me, and so Im personally not going to bother with them I feel so much more confident in how I will use social media in the future, and I feel excited about using it again! 01.01.2022 Is this your first official week back at your desk? Making plans to take over the world in 2020? Heres my top 4 hacks for achieving all of the good things you want to achieve this year! make sure your goals are actually yours, and not based on what someone else expects of you, or born out of comparison to others. You are your own person with your own dreams and version of success, so choose what you want to set your mind to. Ive learned this is what actuall...y leads to true fulfilment and happiness. step it out. OK so your goal is BIG. My advice is to sit down and write out - step by step - what you think is involved in making it happen. This does two important things: 1. it creates a road map for where you want to go, so youre never left wondering what to do next 2. it reveals the gaps in your knowledge and the resources youll need to make it happen start with #1. Now that youve created a step by step plan for where you want to get to, start at the start. Take each step in logical succession, and slowly but surely youll gain momentum and see results. Rushing ahead is tempting, but in my experience, ends up being inefficient. Trust the natural flow of things and... enjoy the process. Creating and achieving something is beautiful and even when you get knocked off course, remember that you have created plan that will help you to get back on track whenever youre ready!
