Bone tenderness at thenavicularbone (the bone on the inside of your foot at the base of the arch; shaded red on the picture on the right) OR 3. An inability to bear weight both immediately and upon initial assessment for four steps. (Wang X, Chang SM, Yu GR, Rao ZT. Clinical value of the Ottawa ankle rules for diagnosis of fractures in acute ankle injuries. PLoS One 2013) If you have sustained an ankle injury we always recommend seeing a medical professional such as a physiotherapist or a GP who is trained in assessing these injuries in order to determine if it's necessary to perform further investigation when diagnosing the injury as soon as possible so the correct plan can be put in place in order to allow for the quickest and safest approach to treatment and recovery.

23.01.2022 Ever had questions about Yoga but didn’t know who to ask? Over on our Blog I have written an article with the answers to five common questions that can pop up when we start talking Yoga. Let me share with you the most common question here for you right now.... ‘I'm not flexible enough to do Yoga.’ Heard this one before? Maybe you’ve said it yourself. Yoga does involve moving, holding and practicing certain postures (Asanas) however there is so much more to Yoga than the pose...s themself. Did you know that Yoga is an eight-limb system? Eight-limbs meaning that there are eight components within the practice itself. Can you guess where postures (Asanas) sit? The practice of postures sits at number three on the list! Pranayama (Breathing) is number four and plays an extremely important part of the practice. If you can breathe, you can practice Yoga. Having the ability to move your body smoothly with your breath, to be able to withdraw from your senses, practice concentration and meditation, allows each limb of the practice to merge, holistically letting your body, mind and emotions be connected. Maybe you are not yet flexible in your physical body, but through practice of all aspects of Yoga, flexibility might just become a byproduct Check out the rest of the questions at: https://studioxphys.com.au/five-common-questions-misconcep/

21.01.2022 Running with Josh - Part 3 As discussed in part 2 by Ryan, he found 2 key areas that I needed to address which are as follows: 1.Vertical Oscillation (movement up and down during running) 2.Foot strike position (out in front instead of underneath the runner)... These 2 areas were reducing my running economy and to help resolve them Ryan gave me 2 drills. The first drill was running to a metronome at 180 beats per minute and my goal was match my foot steps with the beat for 1 minute. The second drill was to run with a dowel rod outstretched over my head as if it was pulling me upwards. This was a strange sensation but I could feel the difference in my movement pattern. Watch the video below to see just how quick these issues were corrected.

14.01.2022 Inbody Scan Vs Weight Scales Have you ever used your scales and despite changes you may have made to either diet or exercise you see no change in the number displayed on the screen? Well this post is perfect for you! For a long time we have used the standard scales for weight assessment but thankfully as times have progressed so has technology.... Below you will see 2 Inbody scans that I have done for myself spanning over 9 months. 1.Pay attention to the area circled in red on both scans. What do you see? It appears that I have put on 300g. How deflating is that? 2.Now look at the section circled in green. This is my Lean Body Mass, Aka MUSCLE. Now what do you see? This shows I have put on 2kg of muscle which is good healthy tissue. As you look further down it further segments where my muscle is distributed and shows how those areas have changed. Pretty cool right? 3.Lastly, look at the area circled in blue. This is my body fat mass. This shows I have lost 1.7kg of body fat. Now that is worth knowing! Further down it displays body fat as a percentage and that too drops from 16% to 14.2%. So as you can see the Inbody scan is such a helpful tool in you weight loss and training goals. Come on down to the studio and have a scan sooner rather than later. **Disclaimer: those who are either pregnant or have a pacemaker aren't suitable for scans

14.01.2022 TIGHT Thoracic Spine, Kyphosis and Chest Opening At StudioXPhys, we often workshop and break down different aspects of the body between us practicitions to further our own knowledge! Here's Sam chatting Josh through a type of exercise that comes from a Yoga background. With the block in her mid spine, the pressure placed against the mirror and the arms lifted overhead, this exercise assists the supporting muscles and ligaments around the mid spine area to open, stretch and... gain greater mobility. NOTE: This is a strong movement! However this can be translated across to other movements, modified and used to suit your own individual needs. Do you have tightness in your mid spine region? Feel like your posture is arching forward? Of that you often find it hard to get enough air into your lungs? Ask your practitioner how you can implement this type of opening movement into your daily life!
