25.01.2022 The season is shaping up well in Yerong Creek for Cameron Male at Dalrye after some welcome rain on the first day of winter. Cameron has just scanned his adult ...Maternal ewes at 178% (not including triplets which would increase the actual foetal count). Single bearing ewes have just been offloaded on AuctionsPlus, and the twinners are happily grazing a wheat crop. Ewe lambs will be scanned shortly. They were joined at 48kg+ and are currently knee deep in clover. The agronomist had planned to spray the paddock for grazing canola, but after seeing the clover popping out of the ground Cameron changed his mind and it has certainly paid off! See more

24.01.2022 OUR OWN CREEP FEEDING EXPERIMENT: Ever wondered what feed you should be using to get the best results from Creep Feeding? So have we! We have decided to run our... own experiment at the Advantage Feeders Farm in Burrumbeet, VIC with lambs this autumn and winter. Later this year or early next year, we are looking to do a similar trial with calves. We have set up 8 separate paddocks, each with about 55 ewes and 95 lambs. All lambs were tagged and weighed at marking. Each paddock has a feeder in it allocated for the ewes to supplement them for 2 weeks. This will help the ewes lactate and train the lambs to eat from the feeders set up for creep feeding. 2 paddocks have no allocated creep feeder for lambs, so they will only be receiving what little grain they get from the feeders in the paddock for the ewes. Group 1 will be creep fed cracked wheat Group 2 will be creep fed whole wheat Group 3 will be creep fed Commercial Mix 1 Group 4 will be creep fed Commercial Mix 2 Group 5 will be creep fed 50% whole wheat, 50% Lamb finishing pellets Group 6 will be creep fed 80% cracked wheat, 20% high protein pellet After 40 days, we will bring them all back into the yards to weigh the lambs and find out the results from the first half of the trial. Watch our video to gain more of any understanding of the pros and cons of each feed type. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0Uezf3Z_YE

11.01.2022 With lambing season upon us, its time to think about how you will mother up lambs with ewes to determine maternal pedigree this season. A fairly quick, easy, ...less labour intensive option is Smart Shepherd proximity sensor collars. Simply put a collar on each EID tagged ewe and lamb for 48hours and the technology will determine which lamb/s belong to which ewe. Suitable for lambs up to approx 12 weeks of age. These were very popular among studs and nucleus flock breeders here in WA last year. Determining maternal pedigree not only helps with tracing genetics, you can also then assess ewe performance (lamb rearing ability) and follow through from scanning to weaning. If interested in hiring the collars, send me an email and I can forward a booking form or more info and pricing.

10.01.2022 We got a total of 13 embryos out of two donors. We are so pleased with the temperament of the donors. The video was taken of the girls on their last day of need...les. We wouldnt have blamed them if they got at least a little bit cranky but they took it all in their stride. Bella and Jillian were chosen for their fertility, temperament and structure. Both have average to below breed average birthweight, high growth, milk and fat cover. See more

With programming AI, Donors and ET recipients, seeding and mixing feed for 90 head every day, we havent had much spare time. ...At least we are doing what we love. Of the 45 cows/heifers synchronised, 40 cycled, they either got an embryo or were artificially inseminated to one of the six AI Sires we chose to use this year. Now we play the waiting game to see what the results will be.
