17.01.2022 . Immigration Minister Alex Hawke asked Parliament’s joint standing committee on migration to review the rules that determine whether people can get a skilled visa... to enter the country, with submissions opening on Wednesday. It coincides with a speech by the Reserve Bank of Australia governor Philip Lowe, who made clear the country’s broader economic growth would be stunted by a slower growth population. This slower population growth has a direct effect on the size of our economy and means that we will not get back to the previous trend any time soon, Dr Lowe said. In per capita terms, we expect more, but not all, of the lost ground to be made up. Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows 2,720 people arrived in Australia on permanent skilled visas in December 2020, compared to 34,770 in the same period a year earlier and figures from Home Affairs show the number of skilled visa stream applications lodged dropped about 11 per cent in 201920 compared with the year before. : https://tinyurl.com/onv94h26 #studyinternational #studyabroad #universitystudent #StudyInAustralia #internationalstudents #foreignstudents #migration #AustralianUniversities #COVID19 #siupdates
17.01.2022 ' ' -19 . ? ? ... Since early 2020, people have been banking on a safe, effective coronavirus vaccine to help secure a return to normal life. The rollout of Australia's first COVID-19 vaccine, the Pfizer-BioNTech jab, is now only a few weeks away. All of the coronavirus vaccines currently in use around the world are given in two doses, a few weeks apart. But, the protection the jabs will give you isn’t instant. RMIT immunologist Dr Kylie Quinn said it takes about two weeks for the body to start generating enough antibodies to protect itself against the virus, but ‘protection’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘immunity’. : https://tinyurl.com/k32r9ye4 #COVID19 #siupdates #studyinternational #CoronavirusVaccine

Most visa holders were already eligible for free doses of the coronavirus vaccine, although there were about 69,000 people on certain visas who were previously excluded. Health Minister Greg Hunt on Thursday stressed the need for the government to work with migrant communities in rolling out the vaccine. "Uptake of the vaccine is very important and the more Australians we have vaccinated, the better," he told reporters. "We need to make sure that everybody who's on Australian soil is safe, and everybody who's on Australian soil has access to protection." : https://tinyurl.com/4vew4s4m #COVID19 #siupdates #studyinternational #CoronavirusVaccine
