24.01.2022 I'm super excited: I've been editing and typesetting a collection of essays from one of my mentors for a while now, and I've just sent it off to print the first hard copy! It targets how we use words to help people grow and develop through Ontological Coaching, and the application of Ericksonian principles to working with clients, to help resource the client to achieve their own success. There are some absolute gems of content in there, really practical, and stuff that I've seen benefit not just my clients, but myself first and foremost. Stay tuned, and I'll let you know more when I can!

23.01.2022 Deanna's is a truly inspirational story. When I met her, I realised that here was someone who understood what it is to be successful, to have that success ripped away from them, and then to rebuild success in a new and exciting way. As a fellow exercise physiologist, she not only understands the importance of exercise; she daily lives its importance. ... As a human being recovering from a significant trauma, she embodies the important message of not just exercise, but patient wellbeing. Exceptional wellness. Thriving and flourishing. Her story can be yours. Thanks to Global Wellness Tracking for making this story available. Check out their amazing resources to help you track your own wellness. 17.01.2022 What is with my eyebrow? The last few months it’s been having a mind of its own. I’m convinced it’s an alien antenna that allows extraterrestrial surveillance of my rather mundane existence

17.01.2022 Flexibility is increased massively and safely by gradually improving strength through the full range of motion. So in this exercise I show you one way I have fun doing this on the crazy wall in my living room. This one is for the adductors of the thigh and especially good for the side splits and high side and roundhouse kicks, and also for getting into and out of awkward grappling positions both on the ground and before you go to ground. And don’t forget those hard to get in...to deep stances for some karate styles! Plus my body always moves better when I free up and strength then the inner thigh. Make sure you gradually progress into exercises like this. It’s a truckload of fun, especially when you feel better at the end than you did at the start. #ChangeExercisePhysiology #OneStepForward #OneBreathMore #adductors #karate #sidesplits #exercise #martialarts #stretching #mobility #kicks #fitness #exercisephysiology #AEP #fun

16.01.2022 This research is exciting! The important role of the gut (and all the little microbes that live in there) for our health and wellbeing is becoming more and more well known. This research shows the importance of exercise for helping to keep that balance. ... One thing I often feel uncomfortable with is when an online article or other professional says, "Exercise increases endorphins and that's why it's good for mental health and depression!", as if a lack of endorphins in the brain were the whole reason a person feels depressed or has mental health issues. Oh dear. Simplistic answers are not often the best. This research shows something far more wonderful: The power of regular exercise to induce changes in the gut microbiome in positive ways. It's still early days, but the evidence is mounting. In work with clients who have tried desperately to change their health habits many times but have not yet succeeded, one thing I've observed is that as the body gets a habit of exercise and recovery and adapts to it, other changes become easier. I often (but not always) don't even address things like diet at first, because soul nourishment is the foundation, followed by movement, then exercise and more recovery, and finally dietary interventions. This progression of wellbeing reduces the stress reactivity of the body. Too much stress reactivity and your body's gut microbiome will be impacted. The role of gut microbiome on mental wellbeing appears to be huge. Well-balanced exercise and recovery is the best way I know to increase the likelihood of healthy changes taking effect. I am becoming increasingly certain that one of the biggest mechanisms for this is that a consistent combination of exercise and recovery (what I call "soul nourishment") creates biological shifts in the body, which affect a person's mental capacity and ability to make and sustain changes. Well balanced exercise and recovery, I am convinced, should not be an option, but a mainstay of healthy, thriving living. The process of getting there can be as slow and meandering as it needs to be. https://journals.lww.com//Exercise_and_the_Gut_Microbiome_

16.01.2022 Have you heard about the Alerthathon? A friend of mine from India, coach Kay Sundararajan, "alerted" me to this project he's heavily involved in. What a great initiative it is! The NGO, Alert, is involved in getting emergency response training to every family in India. Imagine that! Life saving training, chain of survival, which is such a basic piece of knowledge for people in my world - a requirement of work that we often begrudge doing the training for, and yet it's life saving! And millions of people know nothing about it! I don't have anything to do with Alert, but I do know Kay and I believe in this kind of work.

13.01.2022 Conversations to Thrive 3: Jazz Hands Version In my latest video, I talk about using exercise and relationship building together to flourish and thrive, and the importance of balance in life. Link to the full video is in my bio.... I invite you to join me in my online Conversations to Thrive, tomorrow, Friday morning, at 10am Australian Eastern Standard Time (Melbourne time). Forty minutes long in a free group video chat, the first of several, where I seek to grow a safe, thriving and hopeful space for people to continue the journey to success that they’re already on, or looking to begin. Mostly, I want it to be a place of human connection. I’d love to see you there (you can just sit silently in the background listening and observing, if you wish). 11.01.2022 This just arrived! It’s the proof (first hard copy) of a book I’ve edited and typeset for my mentor and friend, @pthorneycroft. Peter has had a profound influence on me personally and professionally, and he has some really great things to say, and is often considered a coach’s coach. This book explores some really practical applications for working with clients using Ericksonian and Ontological Coaching principles, including a great chapter on being an observer and another on... his experiences working in a psychiatric prison. The thing is, the principles contained in here can be used by anyone who works with clients: therapists, exercise physiologists, pastors, counsellors, physiotherapists, coaches. How we use language, how we observe our world and how we craft the space of possibilities for our clients is so important. #OntologicalCoaching #Coaching #ChangeExercisePhysiology #OneStepForward #OneBreathMore #YouCanChange #FailureIsNotFinal #ObserversLookout #WayofBeing #Therapy #Solutions #Psychology #Hypnotherapy #miltonerickson See more
