22.01.2022 One of the jobs I do at work, welding 3/8" tubes in heat exchangers. (100A DC 50Hz pulse)

20.01.2022 If you're after a reusable face mask, have a look at these!

17.01.2022 I put a 250 watt solar panel on top of the van. Plenty of capacity for camping now. $80 new, from a bloke who installs solar systems. Made in Germany!

15.01.2022 Epoxy resin, before and after vacuum degassing.

15.01.2022 Degassing epoxy resin in my vacuum chamber. This greatly improves clarity of the finished piece.

13.01.2022 The speakers are fine. It turns out that the wiring failed. The connector wires that came with the boss speakers, and I soldered to the factory wiring are made from copper coated aluminium wire with steel crimped connectors. ... The copper coating is damaged during the crimping process, which allows aluminium to contact the steel connector and the result is electrolysis caused by the dissimilar metals in contact. (Something new I learned) Put simply, the wires corroded through in 18 months! The winner is my wife, who gets a nice new car stereo with plenty of power to keep her happy! (All over a few cents worth of wire)

13.01.2022 Pretty much finished, probably another coat of oil on the top and ends, then it's ready for use! I replaced the screws with dowels. A bit of a mistake, ended up chipping the dry old Merbau around some of the holes. ... I'm quite happy with the dovetail joints, considering this is my first attempt at a dovetail joint. I chose to use a spokeshave and sandpaper to round the corners, fancy routed edges would detract from the overall look of the piece, in my opinion. All nails were driven home using an Estwing hammer!

12.01.2022 Degassing epoxy resin using a vacuum pump. https://youtu.be/QQgHZdZkXt0

11.01.2022 It's full! There are 14 boards that don't fit, I have 45 boards in total.

09.01.2022 A new resin piece.

09.01.2022 Vacuum degassing in fast motion. Roughly 7 minutes in real time.

08.01.2022 This little old vacuum pump came to me needing a sight glass. I made a sight glass from 8mm polycarbonate and gave the pump a flush with diesel. A fill with oi...l and it's running smoothly. Should be a great pump for degassing epoxy resin!

07.01.2022 Progressing well.

07.01.2022 This is the ignition switch from my van, the starting contact had damage from arcing, which was causing difficulty with starting. I soldered the damage will silver solder and filed it to shape. After a short time in phosphoric acid the part was clean and ready to install. ... The switch works as it should! (A replacement switch was difficult to source at short notice)

05.01.2022 The stereo in my wife's car stopped working. In my wisdom, I diagnosed that the head unit had fried, no way 4 speakers would simultaneously fail! I bought a new head unit and also an amplifier, as I thought she had cooked the last head unit from overworking it.... Adding the amplifier meant I had to run power cables from the battery, which also meant that the battery terminals needed upgrading to heavy duty ones. Anyway, I hooked it all up and had my wife come out and turn it on for the first time, no sound! (Except for the subwoofer) After calming down a bit, I checked the speakers with a multimeter and discovered that they were all open circuit! (Burnt out) Had to buy new speakers, appropriate for the output of the new amplifier. So I ended up unnecessarily buying a whole new audio system, when all it needed was speakers( my wife is excited though!) For those who like numbers. Old head unit 22 watts RMS x 4 channels. New amplifier 70 watts RMS x 4 channels Amp current draw 32 amperes max Subwoofer current draw 20 amperes max

05.01.2022 The boss asked me to wipe the data from a couple of old hard drives at work, perfect excuse to violently destroy something!

05.01.2022 New tools! After searching around for adzes and only finding Chinese made rubbish, I came across these on ebay. These are from Bulgaria, the brand is MF.... Made from 4150 steel, there's a straight blade and 2 curved blades. Nicely balanced and cut well, these adzes add quite a bit of capability to the shed!

04.01.2022 Off-cuts from the bandsaw, over 100 metres cut so far.

03.01.2022 Resin, mica powder colours, glow in the dark colours and a left over piece of wood from making cutting boards.

03.01.2022 I was given a Queen size Jarrah bed frame, but it's coming unglued. Probably a very damp house caused it. The challenge is to sufficiently impregnate the joins with resin, here's the progress so far. ... Messy job!

02.01.2022 A shout out to the bloke behind A Blokes Shed for fixing the wiring in my car speakers, via a new stereo head unit and amplifier, it sounds schmick mate. This Granny just needs to make a couple of small adjustments(not sure I'm getting enough doof doof elements), but it's got a very nice well rounded sound to it now. Oh and I think it needs some LED strip lights that flash in time with the music, running along the interior of the car....can we hang that disco ball in there too?
