13.01.2022 A Slice of History presented by Melt Pizzeria - #ThrowbackThursday Football fashion in the 40’s. Off to watch the Double Blues at Adelaide Oval in 1948. Females have had many roles in Australian Rules Football as spectators, fans, members, trainers, medicos, administration, operations, management, volunteering, coaching and playing. The AFL note that almost half of the attendees at games are female.... We wonder if the sisters pictured would have wanted to be have been part of the next chapter in our great game? It would not be until 2017 that a national women's competition was established, and Sturt entered the SANFLW competition in 2018. What we do know is that June (far left) was a Club volunteer for over 50 years, life member and recipient of the prestigious Brenton Miels Award for outstanding service to the Club. Sadly she recently passed away at 90 years of age but for the majority of her life she was an integral part of our Club and another example of women in football.
