23.01.2022 In line with directives from the DHHS, restrictions concerning support persons and visitors will change from 11:59 PM tonight (Wednesday 6th January). We hope these changes will be temporary as our state continues to challenge the current COVID-19 outbreaks and protect what we have worked so hard for in the past 12 months Updated restrictions: Birth Suite:... One support person (this person may stay for the entire duration of the mother's stay and is not interchangeable) Postnatal Floor: Two visitors, once per day As we strive to reduce movement within our hospitals, siblings are now included in the two visitor limit. Maximum visit duration: One Hour Visiting hours: 3 PM - 8 PM IMPORTANT: We ask that visitors who have visited exposure sites across Melbourne or NSW do not attend St Vincent's Private Hospital and follow DHHS instructions regarding testing and self-isolation. This helps us ensure we are keeping our families and team as safe as possible. If you have any questions regarding these new restrictions, we encourage you to reach out. We will continue to provide updates as frequently as possible. See more

22.01.2022 Those first few days earthside are tiring - we completely get it! Poppy was born with us just before Christmas and her amazing mum, Ellie, recently reached out with these pics and some very kind words. Thank you, Ellie - we can't wait to see Poppy grow up "I Just wanted to share some pics of Poppy who was born at St V P on 22/12 with Dr Briohny Hutchinson.... We've been home since 26/12 after 2 days at St V's and 2 days at the Family Retreat. The time we spent with everyone who cared for us during our stay, even during labour (thank you Steph!) was second to none! It really is like a little family . All of the hard work you guys did during lockdown to help us feel at ease with what was going on, keep us informed and help where you could was awesome. The online classes and Fact Check Friday were invaluable, and I know that this would have taken so much work from you. A big shout out to Lisa who's another 10/10 incredible human who taught us so much that we put into practice during Poppy's entrance into the world! I've passed on all of my thanks personally, but really felt like I should send via some formal channel too combined with wanting to thank you behind this account!! 13.01.2022 The cardigan Maisy is wearing here has a special story, and we were so delighted when her mum, Lily, reached out to share it with us "In October I was admitted antenatally for bed rest for a couple of weeks before our little Maisy arrived. During my time on level 4 I learnt to knit & began knitting this cardigan, I had almost finished it before I went into labour & had our little girl. Just wanted to send this photo through to you so you can please show t...he AMAZING midwives on level 4 who cared for me day in day out that I have FINALLY finished this cardigan & it fits this growing girl! The midwives truly kept me sane during those couple of weeks being an antenatal patient, I miss them!!!" Thank you so much for sharing, Lily! We are excited to see Maisy modelling more of your creations in the future See more

04.01.2022 IMPORTANT With the weather heating up in Melbourne over the long weekend we thought this is the perfect time to update our #stvincentsprivatebaby families on some tips for looking after newborns on hot days! Babies sweat less than adults which reduces their ability to cool down so keep a close eye on your newborn in hot weather Like adults, babies are more thirsty on hot days, so offer your baby extra breast or bottle feeds. For babies, under 6 months it's best to ...give breastmilk or formula rather than boiled water so that they are not only well hydrated but also getting the nutrients they require. Try and avoid sunscreen on babies under 6 months of age and instead keep them in the shade. If in the direct sunlight for short periods, cover their skin with loose cotton (rather than synthetic) clothing and a hat with a soft broad brim. Never leave a baby in a car unattended. Car temperatures can increase to extreme levels within a minute or two in hot weather. Make sure you don’t cover over prams and car seats capsules with blankets as without airflow these small spaces can heat very quickly. Sometimes it might be best to strip your baby down to just a nappy. If necessary, just swaddle your baby with a cotton or muslin wrap rather than using a blanket during sleep times. Always remove hats when putting your baby down to sleep. Cool your baby off with a Luke warm bath or sponge them down with a cool face washer. Wetting the hair is a good way to cool your baby down too. Use a cotton wrap between you and your baby during cuddle times to stop them getting too hot and sticky from direct skin contact with your warm body. And don’t forget breastfeeding Mums need to stay well hydrated too on hot days so look after yourself and drink plenty of water. A big shout out to St V’s bub, Matilda, who shared some snaps from her recent beach holiday See more
