24.01.2022 Our kindy children thoroughly enjoyed exploring shapes shapes using the award winning educational games system OSMO. Using educational software such as this for short periods helps to develop ICT capability and encourages children to learn how to use ICT effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively across many different learning areas.... #subicareearlylearningcentre #subicareelc #learningthroughplay #earlychildhoodeducation

19.01.2022 December traditionally marks the beginning of Birak, also known as the season of the young, in the Noongar seasonal calendar. The Noongar seasonal calendar includes six different seasons in a yearly cycle. These are: Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. These seasons can be long or short and are indicated by what is happening and changing around us rather than by dates on a calendar. Each of the six seasons represents and explains the seasonal changes we see a...nnually. The flowering of many different plants, the hibernation of reptiles and the moulting of swans are all helpful indicators that the seasons are changing. This six-season calendar is extremely important to Noongar people, as it is a guide to what nature is doing at every stage of the year, as well as understanding respect for the land in relation to plant and animal fertility cycles and land and animal preservation.

15.01.2022 What an honour it was to have Jonathan Ford lead a sacred smoking ceremony for us on Friday evening. For those who could not attend, here is a little sneak peek. Jonathan shared with us a little bit about his family and their history and connection to Noongar country and also spoke to us in the Noongar language. He explained about the six Noongar seasons and also the origin and purpose of smoking/cleansing and how it is used to get rid of bad energy and attract good energy. W...e were particularly proud when Jonathan talked about how seeing Indigenous culture authentically embedded throughout the service and our curriculum inspires him. He said it warmed his heart to see Aboriginal culture being shared and celebrated every day, not just one week a year. As we continue on our reconciliation journey, that is something that means a lot to us. Tanga (Thank you) Jonathan for taking the time to educate, share your culture and celebrate with us.
