23.01.2022 I N P R I N T This month has been a good one! I was privileged to get a couple of my photos featured in print in a couple of influential magazines here in Australia. I was stoked to get my first cover with @birdlifeoz and then this two page spread with @australianphotography_magazine If you would like to read the article, feel free to swipe left and let me know what you think.

21.01.2022 There is always an element of risk in trying to turn a hobby into a part-time business, but I do not regret the decision for one minute. I love getting out at markets, pop up shops, gallery spaces, and meeting people who love the Sea as much as I do. While a lot of my sales and contacts come from platforms like Instagram & Facebook, there is nothing like meeting someone, telling them the story behind the image, and handing the product over. I'd like to thank everyone who enables me to keep doing what I do. If you have a print of mine on your wall (or more), please comment which one's you have below. (Or even just the creature or scene depicted) Cheers, Danny.

21.01.2022 S P O T L I G H T Due to it's rarity the IUCN puts it on the Red list as critically endangered. I feel privileged to simply have found one, to look into it's little grumpy face and admire it's strange yet incredible beauty. This is the Spotted Handfish (Brachionichthys hirsutus). What a cool little creature, and to think that in all the Earth, it only calls the silty Derwent River in Tasmania home is astounding. This is a unique style of image editing for me, and I'd love... to hear your feedback. I just wanted to put the spotlight on this amazing animal rather than on it's surrounds. I'd like to thank those that pointed me in the general direction to be able to find one of these fish. (More to come)... Prints available. Discover Tasmania UTas #handfish #tasmania #ocean

20.01.2022 F L A P C A T The first time I laid my eyes on this extraordinary creation, to me it was like finding a Unicorn! I didn't even know that such a beauty even existed. Anyone who knows how a mask and snorkel works, knows that a big smile can cause major leaks in both pieces of dive gear, and I was experiencing both. I was taking in water in a big way, because you couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I have spent the past two years keeping this photo to myself, now it's your...s. 19.01.2022 I can not wait to see this peice of fine art completed! However, you can not rush the master. Fred Moschbeger @inkstreamart is working on collating a whole bunch of my photos into one piece of stunning art. Head over to Fred's page to see how he has been progressing through what must be a massive challenge. Thanks for choosing my photos for this masterpiece mate, I am truly honoured. ... @inkstreamart #art #artist #uwphotosociety #underwaterphotography #tasmania #tasmaniagram #discovertasmania #ocean #jw_snapshots #jwshooters #artgallery #australiagram #australia #submergedimages

19.01.2022 I wanted to take the time to thank everyone for there ongoing support over what has been quite a tumultuous year. I hope my photos help you to see & enjoy the beauty and incredible design in Earth's creations. Thank you for liking, commenting, and sharing my work. And to all those that continue to purchase prints, I am humbled, and I thank you. I have some big projects in mind for the near future, so stay tuned my friends! Wishing you all the best. Kind regards, Danny. ... (Photos of me were taken in one of my pop up galleries). Latrobe, Tasmania.

19.01.2022 V O G U E One of the most rewarding things about taking a photo is getting to see it in print. This photo just came in from one of my happy clients. Leopard Whipray, Byron Bay, NSW.... 120cm x 80cm float framed canvas $550.00 (Winter sale price) Australia wide. See more

18.01.2022 O P E N P L A N Having 'room to breathe' in an image can really help with telling the story of the shot. What do I mean by that? Well, negative space provides room to insert, not only the viewer in to the picture, but to also get a sense of how cautious, playful, or interested the subject may have been at the time. (I have been sitting on this shot for a few years, choosing not to share it mainly because I thought the positioning of the 3 Dolphins was a bit weird). This d...ay, the Dolphins were a bit standoffish, which I sometimes don't mind, as it allowed me to create some depth to the shot with the surface of the sea and the piercing sunlight playing on the backs of the Dolphins. Composition plays a big part to whether a shot is pleasing to look at too. Here I have allowed room in the photo for the Dolphins to swim into, which can bring into play the viewers imagination. 16.01.2022 B A T M A N T A It's world Manta day, so I thought I might share my favourite Manta shot. This was taken on the first time I had ever seen these amazing creations! When a four metre Manta hovers above your head to get tickled by your scuba bubbles it's something you don't forget in a hurry. I had 15 of them doing a dance around us. I was very naughty and pushed my air supply to the absolute limit on this dive because I didn't want to leave. #sucked-it-dry @paul_coley67 @_t...bag_ Manta Point, Nusa Penida, Bali. #worldmantaday #underwaterphotography #bali #nusapenida #visitbali #mantarays #animalfanatics #jw_snapshots #jwshooters #uwphotosociety #scubadiving #divermag #divingphoto #planetearth #underthesea_perfection #water_of_our_world #kings_underwater #canoncollective #canon #meikon

15.01.2022 H O O V E R How would you try and suck up your food if was almost on the sand and all you had was a straw? To avoid getting a mouthful of sand you would probably use the same technique that this Weedy Seadragon is using. This was the first time I had ever seen one feeding on it's side like this, sucking up tiny mycids just millimetres off the sand. The little Banded Stingaree watching on in the background was quite impressed! Ps. 'Hoover' is a brand of vacuum cleaner. I ...thought it was a fitting title for this one. 14.01.2022 G L A M O U R Fur Seals are a very maligned, and often unfairly judged animal. Yes, they may stink a bit when on land, and they sometimes annoy fishermen, but underwater they can be so much fun, even graceful, like this Long-nosed Fur Seal from the Tasman Peninsula. This shot was recently selected by Callum Dyson for large format printing and framing and I can not wait to see it! ... Photo taken on tour with @wildoceantasmania Discover Tasmania

11.01.2022 P A P A N U I R O C K S Diving a new location always gets me buzzing and this spot was no exception! Papanui Rocks is a submerged reef that rises up from a depth of about 40m right up to about 8m from the surface. It lies approximately 14 kilometres out from shore off Tassie's North-east coast. My brother @blusparra and good mate @keenanroof made the most of relatively good sea conditions and were rewarded with clear conditions, a couple of Crayfish each, and a good workou...t! The current was ripping out there. This place is not for novice divers, and be sure to have someone you trust in the boat like we did. Thanks for picking us up lads. @_razzu_ & Zolt. These photos show how healthy and vast this area of reef is. And we explored probably 1% of it. Evan and Keenan saw less because they always have their heads down looking for Crayfish. I was looking and hoping for a Shark. Not this time... #papanuirocks #tasmania Tasmania Discover Tasmania

11.01.2022 R E F L E C T I can not believe a whole Whale season has passed me by and I didn't get the chance to see one while either on, or in the water. I saw a few from land, and while this is great, it just doesn't compare. I have spent the last 12 months in contract work which tied me down quite a lot, so while I was very grateful for the job, I am happy to say I am back working for myself, and finally having time to work on a website for my photo sales. I am looking forward to fi...nding some new species, and diving some new Tasmanian locations. Hopefully, I may even bump into one of these beauties again along the way! 08.01.2022 P E A R L S When I find patches of this amazing Macrocystis, or Giant Kelp, I always imagine what it must have been like to physically not be able to swim through it only a few decades ago due to how dense it once was. I was talking to a mate recently, and apparently, the south of the state has seen a real boom in this species this year due to a rare increase in nutrients coming up from Antarctica, but it looks like it won't stay around long. This Kelp can grow about a foo...t a day in good conditions. I am hoping to head south and photograph some forests before they disappear once again. 08.01.2022 E N V E L O P E D One of the most incredibly engaging sights in the Ocean would have to be watching a large bait ball do its thing right in front of you. Mathew Tildesley dropped me into this one a couple of kilometres offshore from Bicheno a while back. I stumbled across this previously unedited file while preparing another photo from this encounter for a client that was after a print. I should revisit my external hard drives more often! 06.01.2022 H A N D I N T H E K E L P Four fingers and a very big thumb rise up out of the dense Kelp. This is a dive site I haven't been to since I was in my early teens. Revisiting and freediving here has been something I have wanted to do for over 20 years! This place has a section of reef that is quite remarkable for a reason other than this natural rock 'hand' reaching for the warmth of the sun. A reason that hopefully will become apparent in future posts. Stay tuned... Low ...Head, Tasmania. Wide format prints available. Discover Tasmania #tasmania

03.01.2022 'Tangled up in blue' There were so many Jellyfish cruising by in the swift current during both of our dives Papanui Rocks. Our plan was to stay up current of the boat so that we could easily drift back and wouldn't miss the anchor line when it was time to ascend. Having a hold on the anchor rope is handy when ascending in open water, especially when the tidal current is running hard. But the reef structure was so amazing that we threw out that plan pretty quickly, and desp...ite the 40m+ visibility I ended up losing both @blusparra , @keenanroof , and also where the boat was. I had gone over into this amazing sandy gully with steep ridges on both sides that looked to just drop away into the crystal clear depths. I ended up pushing my air supply to a point where I had to do a solo blue water ascent in the current. I put up my SMB (surface marking buoy) while on my safety stop at 5m to let the surface crew know where I was. Knowingly getting dragged away from the boat for close to 3 minutes in blue water wasn't the best, but while I waited I took this shot of one of the Jellyfish that was drifting along with me. Every photo has a story, this one was quite long! Our boat boy had seen my SMB break the surface and soon picked me up. 03.01.2022 A T L A N T I S Moving past the large 'hand' in my last post, this shallow reef unfolds into an extensive pile of scattered natural rock columns, somewhat reminiscent of the ruins of an ancient city overgrown with kelp and weed.
