20.01.2022 In this passage we find one of the most beautiful and most challenging commands found in the Bible. Jesus commands us to love each other sacrificially, passionately and without exception. ~~ How are we meant to live sacrificially? How can we be expected to offer our lives for people we might not even like being around? ~~ Thankfully, loving people isn't something we are expected to do by ourselves. John 15:16 tells us that the Father chose to love us, and it is through His l...ove that we are empowered to love others. ~~ Jesus' death on the cross is the supreme example of love, as He sacrificed everything for His friends. Because of that sacrifice, you and I are now friends with Jesus. ~~ "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." John 15:13 See more

20.01.2022 We are free. ~~ The curse of sin that has plagued our world has no authority over those who have a relationship with Jesus. Though the effects of sin run rampant, the curse is no long ours to bear. Jesus assures us that "it is finished" (John 19:30). ~~ One of our blessings is this: that those who are in Christ have been freed from the curse of sin and have been made righteous instead! ... ~~ Now that we have a deeper understanding of what blessings are, what are some ways that we can bless others? 14.01.2022 This Sunday Pastor Young will be giving his final sermon as a member of the Suburban Church staff and pastoral team. ~~ He'll be sharing deeply about our mandate as Christians to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and strength. ~~ When repeated in the Gospels, Jesus placed a particular emphasis on the oneness of pure love. As we learn to love God, our love grows and becomes much stronger than a simple sentiment or emotion. ... ~~ The sacrificial pure love that God provides has the power to transform lives! As the Spirit points us towards Christ, we conform to the image of Christ and are then able to bear a life characterised by love. ~~ We pray that you'll be blessed by the Word of God this Sunday. 09.01.2022 In His final teachings, Jesus encouraged His disciples to not be surprised when they experience great troubles in their lives. Their lives won't become perfect as they live as disciples, instead they will endure trials for the sake of the gospel. ~~ We currently live in a period of time between Jesus' resurrection and our complete restoration in Heaven. This means that as we live as disciples of Jesus, we still need to endure pain, sickness, sadness and death in our imperfec...t world. ~~ Yet it is in the midst of our overwhelming anguish that Jesus desires for His children to take heart, for our afflictions are only momentary. ~~ Our suffering is real and it looks differently to our brothers and sisters throughout the world. In unity, let us all look towards the hope we have in Christ together. He has overcome the world, and the Holy Spirit will empower us to follow Him. ~~ "For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." - 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 See more

08.01.2022 Have you read Ruth chapters 2 and 3 yet? ~~ As we progress through these chapters, Ruth the Moabite becomes recognised as Ruth the worthy woman. ~~ Ruth came from a society of idol-worshippers in Moab and relocated to Israel as a foreigner. But God did not isolate her from His family because of where she came from, rather He welcomed her into His physical and spiritual family.... ~~ Our value isn't found in where we come from, our value is truly found in who God says we are. ~~ We'd love for you to share in the comments. Who does God say you are? See more

07.01.2022 In chapter 4 of Ruth, we see the theme of redemption fulfilled through a marriage. ~~ The marriage of Boaz and Ruth provides a glimpse of the New Testament for us. The redemption that Boaz represents in the Old Testament foreshadows a much greater redemption which will be fulfilled by Jesus. ~~ The love that Jesus has for us is similar to the love that a husband has for a family. He presented this as He lay down His life in order to save mankind.... ~~ The price that Jesus paid for us is the highest possible price. The redemption of mankind came at the cost of His life, but He was willing to endure the cross in order that we may be rescued. ~~ The freedom that Christ purchased is now available for us as we place our hope in Him as Saviour. 06.01.2022 This week we'll begin our new series in the book of Ruth led by AB. The book of Ruth tells the story of a God who provides for His people according to His promises. ~~ Our study begins in the midst of a famine, the passing of Naomi's husband and the passing of her two sons. In her pain, Naomi believes that the Lord has dealt very bitterly with her. ~~ Are you feeling that way at the moment? As a community, lots of us are feeling the effects of isolation and are wondering wh...at God is doing in these trials. ~~ And yet, the story of Naomi will teach us that trials aren't forever. The fulfilment of God's promises transforms Naomi's bitterness into sweetness, as the scarlet thread of the Old Testament continues through her life. Our trials are painful, but they are not eternal. The Lord keeps His promises. ~~ Join us this Sunday as we focus on the God who invites us into His family, that we may never truly be alone. See more

05.01.2022 Throughout the New Testament, we find the metaphor of the vine and the branches used to express the importance of how we live our lives as part of God's Kingdom. ~~ In John 15:1-11, Jesus revealed that He is the true vine and that His Father is the gardener. Jesus also declared that it is the branches who abide in Him that will produce the most fruit. ~~ Jesus assures us that our fruitfulness as believers doesn't come from how "good" we are, rather it comes from our relatio...nship and connection with our Father. ~~ As Jesus laid down His life to save us, we have been invited into God's Kingdom where we will produce fruit to the glory of God. ~~ "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." - John 15:11 See more

05.01.2022 As we reflect on our series in Genesis, what has impacted you? ~~ We've seen the gospel through the stories of Adam, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and many more. We've studied people who did wonderful things for God, and we've studied people whose works were unimpressive. ~~ And yet, the main character is God. The faithfulness of God has truly been the illuminating light in our studies. In humanity's failures, the goodness of God never ceases. ... ~~ And yet, God loves us despite our poor performance. Jesus has truly conquered the serpent and we have been bought into our spiritual family because of his death and resurrection. ~~ Let us know in the comments what you've been impacted by in Genesis!
