18.01.2022 For students who would want to pursue ATAR subjects in Years 11 and 12, it is critical they develop a solid foundation in their early years. Unfortunately, the ratio of students to teacher in classrooms means that teachers can hardly offer extra time to those students who require extra attention or want to develop themselves further. We encountered a Yr. 10 student whose issues with English were evident. If not rectified, this was likely to negatively affect his chances of p...ursuing ATAR subjects. Taking this on as a challenge, one of our tutors was eager to help and would tutor him every Saturday with a group of four students. Importantly, he was also willing to apply the skills taught to him in the extra hours of study. With hard work, he improved his skills to become the second highest English student in his year group. The story in the description provides a deep insight into the process of getting John from 40%, to an exceptional 92% in English by altering his attitude towards studying, especially in essay writing skills and presentation of arguments. John struggled to understand complex essay questions that he was given. As it is well known, academic essays are hugely drawn on a writer's flow and articulation of thoughts. Having an incredibly imaginative nature, John found it hard to relay his thoughts in a logical flow, leading to incoherent papers with no flow. Given that, I introduced him to my own elaborate version of the T.E.E.L. essay-writing tool to help him structure his thoughts in a logical manner. Soon afterwards, he was proficient in drafting essays. Another essential aspect of Yr. 10 English is mastering critical analysis. To help John develop, justify, and sustain ideas, I introduced him to an argument development structure. He was asked to follow it every time he needed to provide a critical analysis on a topic. His study would begin by identifying his intended argument and determining the significant points relating to the discussion. Being a non-native English speaker, Johns understanding of the language limited his interaction with other English speakers. To help him overcome this barrier, I explained the complexity of the language and the expectations that come with being a Yr. 10 student wanting to pursue ATAR. Therefore, he was able to recognize the complexity of the language, making him more grounded when analysing various types of texts. By heeding to my advice of developing a positive attitude towards the language, sticking to my instructions on presenting a coherent flow of ideas, and following a specific format of presenting critical arguments, John is currently the second highest in his year group. 01.01.2022 Dear Families of Success Academy WA, As a community, we are facing an unprecedented challenge with the spread of COVID-19. I wanted to provide you with an update as to what we are doing to keep our clients and staff safe during this time of heightened concern. As we are a tutoring business, we are currently operating as normal in terms of fulfilling tutoring sessions and included the option of online tutoring via Skype, WeChat, Zoom, and/or Microsoft Teams. We have instituted... heightened hygiene procedures for all staff. Any Success Academy WA staff member who feels unwell is not going to their tutoring sessions and being supported by the company to ensure they only return to work once they have a clean bill of health. Our team is working very hard behind the scenes to plan for a variety of contingencies, and are dedicated to ensuring we can operate as smoothly as possible during this time.
