25.01.2022 Another lovely weekend at the backyard garden shop.

24.01.2022 Succulents got a so cool life. Succulent symbolizes LOVE. They love to live in the harshest conditions on Earth. When they struggle of getting enough water to drink, they become more colourful and beautiful, instead.. If there’s no roof or shade to protect them from the scorching heat, they still survive. Only if humans can do the same. Most likely, there’s no such word as whinge. This is in fact, the backyard of LOVE. Birthdays, love and wedding anniversaries are celebrated here sometimes. And becoming part of such Celebration of Love is wonderful!

22.01.2022 Succulent HydroDiagnosis In olden times, doctors check your eyes to find out what could be wrong. Some doctors still do that. But modern technology helps in confirming diagnosis these days. How to do that on succulents?... Is there a succulent stethoscope? Nope. Well, use your hands and eyes; look for signs. The mushy, juicy leaves are a sign of over-watering. While the soft limp leaves is a sign of The Water is Not Enough(007). Cold weather is also a culprit for succulent leaves to be come softer or mushy. If you noticed leaves slowly becoming yellowish and transparent, soggy or mushy. It means too much love is about to kill it by overwatering. Another sign is leaves start falling off in a slightest gust of wind.

22.01.2022 Echeveria longissima var. aztatlensis(round form) $12/each(90mm pot) Only 5 available

21.01.2022 Senecio serpens available today (Dwarf Blue Chalksticks) $6/each(90mm pots) Curio repens or Senecio serpens, is a species of the genus Curio in the Asteraceae family. A succulent endemic to the Western Cape province of South Africa, it is typically found growing from crevices in rocky sandstone slopes. Commonly named blue chalksticks, it is used as an ornamental plant. ... The taller sister is called Senecio mandraliscae.

21.01.2022 Humans and Succulents Succulents are prettier in their vibrant colours when correctly exposed to sun. This is because plants react to the sun, like the way our skin does. We increase our melanin level if we expose ourselves with too much sun. That’s when we get that tan. To prevent our skin from potential sunburn. Plants have similar pigments that prevent them from burning. It’s called anthocyanins. Similar to other plants, succulents absorb water and carbon dioxide and tra...nsform them into glucose and oxygen through photosynthesis. Therefore, right amount of sun exposure is crucial for that process. We always tell our customers, at least 5hrs of direct morning sun exposure a day(granting the temperature is within 21-27C). How succulents protect themselves or heal sun damage? Interestingly, humans and succulents have something in common. Although, humans need to consume food that has anthocyanins. Succulents made it themselves. Anthocyanins are pigments that give red, purple and blue plants achieved its best colours. In addition, it also offer anti-inflammatory benefits and pest-resistance. That’s their self-healing capability. Maybe because they can not go to see a doctor. But we do. This chemical is also found in foods with health benefits to humans. Anthocyanins have been reported as having the capacity to lower blood pressure, improve visual acuity, reduce cancer cell proliferation, inhibit tumor formation, prevent diabetes, lower the risk of Cardio-vascular Disease and modulate cognitive and motor function. These are also reported to have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ability. Imagine how much more it can do to our lovely succulents. Although, humans and succulents have this particular chemical in common. We differ in how we behave. Humans are never pleasant or beautiful when we get stressed. Highly opposite of what succulents are capable of. Pretty and colourful when stressed.

18.01.2022 String of Ruby Necklace "Othonna capensis" All you need to give, is a whole day of sun exposure every single day to eternity. Regardless what’s the temperature. That’s how you get its most vibrant colour and the elongated leaves will become grape-like looking.

18.01.2022 If you think Sydney is too far away. Start thinking about our visitors driving from Penrith, Wollongong, Bankstown, Newcastle, Dubbo, Tamworth, Armidale and Coffs Harbour. Some of them kept dropping by every now and then(as regular customers). We always see a good number of Sydneysiders every week too. But some who’ve not been here thought, we are too far for a drive. With the new NorthConnex tunnel recently opened, it’s a much quicker drive from Sydney to Central Coast.

17.01.2022 Once you see this sign, you're almost there.:-)

16.01.2022 Most of these plants are still available this coming long weekend.

15.01.2022 Greenovia dodrentalis is commonly(wrongly) posted/labelled as Greenovia aurea. But they are two different type of plants. Dodrentalis is kind of the thinner version of Graptoveria Lovely Rose. Hopefully, one day we will get them. We’ve sold a lot of Greenovia aurea lately. But not the Greenovia dodrentalis.

14.01.2022 What’s that red trolley for? It’s a mechanic’s tools trolley, but with the top shelf inverted. This trolley is a great helper during stage of restocking; to hold a tray of plants. Used to do lots of bending when trays are laid on the ground. For someone with a severe spine problem, this is extremely valuable.

13.01.2022 These are ready for you this long weekend... *Yesterday was busy. But we managed to restock and refill the display stands with more plants before sunset. Ready for the next day. Some plants are not advertised. So visiting us will give you that opportunity of seeing what else do we have. We know, ...we can’t be near to everyone. Thank you to those who travelled far and hauled multiple trays of purchases. And lovely to see all our returning customers too. It was lovely chatti...ng with you all. Alét & Rowena

12.01.2022 Why we won’t allow customers into our greenhouses? Visiting a home garden store or nurseries, is like visiting a friend’s home. You refrain going into friend’s bedroom. Greenhouses is a place for young plants to grow in best conditions. It means, no point going there, because they’re not for sale. And some of them are mother plants we wanted to keep. So, we can continue selling those varieties in the future.... Other reason, plants in greenhouses are actually in quarantine area. We don’t want potential contaminants to get in there. Our goal: to grow them healthy and pest-free. Before we started this business, we’ve visited high-end nurseries. Most of them never allow visitors to go past the display area. The worst reason? Our plants has been deliberately sprayed/damaged in the past.
