22.01.2022 Our unbeleafable biosecurity crew at Sydney international mail centre had another successful biosecurity find, intercepting a succulent garden arriving from Chi...na via express mail. Detected through X-ray screening, the article contained 43 undeclared assorted succulents with soil. Australia has strict import conditions and requirements for live plants they must be a permitted species and accompanied by a valid import permit, supporting documentation, require inspection and treatment on arrival, and a minimum of three months in post entry quarantine for disease screening. Plants that don’t meet conditions pose a huge risk to Australian biosecurity as they could introduce foreign pests and diseases that could be harmful to our agriculture, environment, economy, and our way of life. Breaches of Australia’s biosecurity conditions may result in an investigation and possible criminal prosecution. The travelling plants were immediately destroyed. If you’re a total succa for plants, be biosecurity aware and check the Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON) before buying live plants from overseas! Leran more at: awe.gov.au/bicon

10.01.2022 The difficulties of supply versus demad. This last winter Our nursery was not alone in running low on plants. Never before have we nearly run out over winter. M...ost nurseries at the moment can sell anything as long as its got some green leaves. To remedy this we have started propagating a bit earlier. and we have installed some heaters to ward of the Winter chills and bring our new plants on a bit earlier. we have gained about two months for a lot of our stock. This week we will be adding some of the special plants that would normaly not be available till December. Thank god for heaters. See more
10.01.2022 How plants can morf into new varieties. Lets talk about Echeveria suyon 2d photo we first bought it into the country fr Korea I did not realize then that it wa...s a semi cresting form from another Echeveria. (no name). 3rd photo. it has since given us a variegate Suyon and has showm us her reversion but obviously being a genetically unstable plant Last year she produced the most magnificent variegeated reversion plant 1st pic and just to get fancy we now have two variegated crests. quiet a lot of varieties from one obviously unstable hybrid. we hope to be able to have a few gor sale this year it seems quiet stable and quiet vigorous and reasonably easy to grow. this might be a keeper as some variegates are not really worth persavering with See more

04.01.2022 BE AWARE This is what can happen if you slander or make untrue malicious comments on a public platform. Normally I do not like to comment about these sorts of... issue’s on behalf of other people but this time I am making an exception. Pu Nia Bor. Great name if you know Fugian dialect. (F----K You or Mother F) so hardly a real name. This is a false Face book account or platform for a Chinese individual to drop mistruths or malicious and or slanderous comments on their page or posts or comments on other pages in that name. When we did our first import of succulents into the country He told everyone in the Chinese platform WeChat that our plants have or were grown in cancer causing medium. He obviously does not know much about TC and what is in a growing medium. So why would he do this. Since he has made he has some wild and untrue accusations about a fellow friend and grower accusing them of smuggling plants when in fact they do have an import permit and use the same facility I do to quarantine their plants that I do. I feel like sticking up for my friend as she is doing the hard and expensive way, and the correct legal way to import plants. Unlike a lot of Chinese sellers on Facebook and Ebay and WeChat who have these amazing new plants at very expensive prices that have been smuggled in with very little expense and reaping massive profits. A lot of these people show these amazing new plants on their web sites and Facebook pages I and a lot of other people know that they should not be here and have not come in through the proper channels. I can cite a recent example on Ebay recently there was a 7 or 8 year old Dudleya pachyphytum, wild collected. One, This plant is not available to us as its not on the Allowed list of importable plants. Two, it is a Cities plant which means it is protected and should not be traded. All illegal. Three, seed of this plant has only been very recently available so obtaining a 7 or 8 year old plant in Australia is impossible. Also recently seen on a page was a variegated Cotyledon oophylla long leaf form very rare slow growing we have this but never sold it. One was available for about $7 to 800 very recently on Ebay. The other 5 nurseries that legally import succulents have not yet imported it so where did this Ebay and snail eaten specimen come from I have also seen Aeonium on similar pages that only we have imported but not sold yet where did they come from. All obviously smuggled. So why is this person doing this and what are his motives. Is it hate, business, or jealousy, It is obviously either of those reasons as he has many illegal imports on his page that we have not released yet and I do know the other 5 or 6 nurseries that legally import succulents into Australia do not know where to get these plants so I do know what’s here and what is available overseas which we visit every year. With some recent busts in Sydney and Brisbane of plants posted in the mail The Agriculture dept is stepping up its investigation for illegal importers of succulents. So you need to be aware that buying these amazing new plants from Ebay, Facebook. And WeChat. most often from the Chinese community is against the law and you are liable and responsible being in receipt of these illegally imported plants to possibly lose your entire collection. And possibly sell your house to pay the unbelievable fines imposed by breaking the law. Jail terms are also involved. All sales are traceable on Ebay. And the Agriculture Dept do have access to WeChat when they take your phone. So please be aware of where your plants come from. And what you say on a public platform. IT will be interesting to see which Facebook pages and web sites disappear in the next few months
