Andy is our longest current team member to have been a part of Sue Mickelson Swimming, because you guessed it - he is Sues wonderful son Andy is experienced in school aged LTS, and has more recently taken on the role of a Squad Coach at our second location. 16.01.2022 Today, its time to meet Shannon!! Shannon is one of our LTS & Squad Teachers and we absolutely love having her as part of our team. Q: What do you love most about your job? A: I absolutely love seeing all the smiling faces on the kids I teach. It is so rewarding seeing them not give up. ... Q: Name 3 things people dont know about you. 1. I have bent pinkys 2. I lived in Malaysia when I was 2 3. I dont like strawberries Q: What is your favourite skill to teach in the pool? A: streamlined and rockets!! Although they are so basic, I do love that a small skill such as this makes a big difference to a swimmers overall technique. Q: When you arent teaching, what makes you most happy? 08.01.2022 What an amazing 1st week back after forced closures. Couldnt be more prouder with the way it concluded on Saturday. The kids were so excited to be back swimming some evening had 4 lessons , the parents,grandparents and guardians all followed our Covid safe plan brilliantly. Q: What inspired you to start your own Swim School? A: I saw a gap in the market and wanted to provide a service that I wasnt seeing at other Swim Schools. I wanted to offer a holistic approach that was something for the children in the pool, the parents on pool deck, my staff and t...he community. I love seeing the friendships that are formed on my pool deck as much as I love seeing the children succeeding in the water. Q: What do you love most about your job? A: I love seeing the children come out of a lesson with a smile, knowing that they have succeeded. I also love the challenge of enabling a scared or timid child to grow to LOVE swimming Q: What is your favourite skill to teach in the pool and why? A: I love breastroke & teaching the fundamental skills. Im not a big fan of teaching backstroke at all! But I do that it is a very important stroke to learn. Q: What is something most people dont know about you? A: Im actually a big softie at heart! Ive also worked in many jobs. Ive been a chef, worked in retail, childcare and since 2001 a career in swimming teaching. Q: If you could take one thing to a deserted island - what would it be? A: One!! Thats too hard. 03.01.2022 Its time to introduce you to another member of the Sue Mickelson Swimming Team!! Meet, Jess. Some of you may know me, and some may not! I became part of the SMS Team in 2013! It feels like a lifetime ago, and only yesterday at the same time. Being a swimming teacher is hands down, one of THE most rewarding things Ive done. Theres something so special about teaching a child an invaluable skill that they will carry with them for life. 5 facts about me: ... 1) I love my life. Although its not always easy, Ive learnt to appreciate everything I have. I love my family & friends ALOT. 2) I genuinely think I could live off pasta for the rest of my life 3) I am actually a bit of a nerd. I am very interested in learning about historic events. The Bermuda Triangle mystery & The Titanic are two of my faves 4) I get very claustrophobic and I hate lifts. 5) If travelling was a thing, Id head to Greece and explore the Greek Islands. See more
