22.01.2022 As a working professional makeup artist, I have a LOT of brushes in my kit (too scared to count them actually!!) Im often asked what brushes I love and what are the best brushes. Of course, its a personal choice, but this week, Im chatting about some of my favourites. And yes, there is a full list of the brushes in the video description...... https://youtu.be/Cei3sKFfiR8
22.01.2022 Getting used to the new way of working, Im using a lot more loose powders. Bride Georgia looking gorgeous on her wedding day, with @kyliesprofessional loose pigment on the eyes. What are your favourite loose pigment powders??
22.01.2022 Thanks Nicola @goddess_makeupdesign for referring your clients to me (Nicola couldnt get to Brisbane due to border restrictions). Renee and Amanda were set for a great day for Amandas hens party, keeping their base nice and matte while they would be running around the city today. PS. This was my third Hens party makeup job in 2 days!!
20.01.2022 Natural makeup: my signature style While I believe as a professional artist one should be able to do any makeup style requested, its good to be known for a particular style, then youll get booked for that style. Be clear in your messaging and keep the majority of your posts on brand, so that potential clients have a clear idea about who you are and what you do.... But dont be afraid to mix it up from time to time... just not all the time!! Whats your signature style? . . . @anna_doody for @adriftclothing See more
20.01.2022 Makeup and hairstyle for Maddie’s formal trial. I’ve seen Maddie grow up from a toddler, and it was such a pleasure to create this look for her. 2020 has been such a tough year for us all, not the least Year 12 students (and I know this, my younger son is in Year 12), it’s good to see that Qld students will get to enjoy their formal (and hopefully the restrictions on dancing are lifted before November)... Swipe for detail and hairstyle... See more

18.01.2022 Yes you can have an upstyle if your hair is shorter. This mum of the bride was super happy with the look we created. Due to Covid rescheduling, October is looking very full, but I have a fair bit of availability in August and September, so if youre planning a small wedding, having one person to do hair & makeup might save you some hassle.... DM to chat about your wedding day dreams... See more

14.01.2022 Normally at this time of the year I’m reflecting on the year gone by, checking in with the goals I set at the beginning of the year and tracking how I’ve gone with achieving them, and setting new goals for the upcoming year. But when I look back at the start of this year and the goals I set, I almost can’t recognise them. The year started off well, And then, Covid... I pretty much threw my goals out the window and went into survival mode. I know I’m not alone! I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that 2020 threw us all a curve ball. Whether you were in lockdown for weeks or months, whether you had to stop work for a short time, or you still aren’t working, 2020 has not ended how any of us would have expected last January 1st. However, when I look back over this year, there ARE some awesome things that have happened, and I can reflect back on the year with a positive mindset. Normally at the end of the year I invite you to join me for a goal setting workshop. Instead, this year, I’d like to invite you reflect on 2020 so you can put the year behind you and prepare for 2021. Instead of focussing on all the bad things that have happened during this year, and how Covid has had a negative impact on our lives and businesses, I encourage you to reflect on the lessons you’ve learned, and what positives have come out of this year. Is there a theme to 2020 that you can identify? How would you sum up the year in just a few words? For me, 2020 has been the year of upheaval and renewal as everything I thought I had control over was taken away from me, and I was forced to step back and look at my life differently, and remember what is REALLY important to me. I’ve reconnected with some of those values and beliefs, and looking forward, I know my life is going to be even better, as I become more present and live more consciously. I’d love to hear from you as to how you will look back on 2020. What was 2020 the year of for you? I hope you have a Happy New Year, and I’ll see you in 2021.
14.01.2022 While I love doing upstyles, downstyles like this wavy, braided look are just as fun and super popular with both brides and formal girls. . Whats your preference? Upstyle or down? . Hair by me for @sugarmobilemakeup using @nakhair @nakman1
14.01.2022 Instagram is such a popular marketing tool for makeup artists and hairstylists, and that makes sense, for it is a fantastic visual content platform. 13.01.2022 National Lipstick Day... . Ok, it was actually yesterday... Still loving this shot that photographer @danielsangermani pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to do.... Thats the thing with comfort zones, nothing great ever happens there, its only when we step outside and face the challenges that we grow, and in this case, create a piece of art I can look back in years later and be proud of. Whens the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone? What did you achieve? belong to @emmaleighhhclaire See more

09.01.2022 Have you ever thought about starting your own makeup line? Whenever I ask makeup artists about their goals, this pops up so often. Kylie Eustace made that dream a reality, with her brand Kylies Professional.... This week on the vlog, I chatted with Kylie about her career as a freelance makeup artist, what prompted her to start her own line, and some of the challenges she faced along the way. 08.01.2022 When youre a freelance makeup artist or hairstylist working in the wedding space, a big part of your work will be doing trials (sometimes called previews) for your brides-to-be. In addition to brides, Im finding increasing number of formal girls (and their mums!) are requesting trials as well. I get a lot of questions about trials, and this weeks vlog answers a lot of those questions:... Should trials be compulsory? When is the best time to do a trial? How long should you allow for a trial? How much should you charge for a trial? Check out the video now on my YouTube channel ( or link to vlog post in first comment) Its just a quick 11 minute video this week, but jam-packed full of juicy tips. Id love to hear your thoughts... 06.01.2022 While social media platforms like Instagram can be a great way to attract potential clients to your freelance makeup business, if you rely solely on Instagram, you are missing out on potential bookings. Not everyone is on instagram! Many of your potential clients will be using Google to find a makeup artist - so it makes sense to have a presence on Google. Many artists Ive spoken to think that you need to have a website to have a Google listing, and while that certainly h...elps your business, its not necessary to get your business appearing in the search engine. Google works with the location services in a persons mobile device or computer (provided they allow Google to access your location). So when a potential client types "makeup artist" into their Google search, it will show them a list of artists near them. Lately Ive found that a large portion of my clients are finding me simply by using a google search. This weeks video is all about how you can use "Google my Business" to get your business out there to more potential clients - especially those who are local to you. https://youtu.be/JWaf3TLF8Ys

04.01.2022 So happy to be back doing what I love. This image from my last test shoot before lockdown with @_charlotte.t and @tomhallphotography Doing test shoots (or TFP) is the best way to build your portfolio and tailor it to the work you want to be doing.... You want to do commercial work? You need a commercial portfolio. Same for editorial. But the beauty of test shoots is sometimes you can do them just for fun, or just to work with people you love working with. Do what you love, and youll never work a day in your life See more

02.01.2022 Have you ever entered a makeup artist competition? Have you ever WON a competition? Being a competition or award winner looks great on your resume, and provides more social validation in the eyes of your potential clients, whether they be brides and personal clients, or decision makers in the commercial and editorial industry. Win or not, I think entering makeup artist or hair styling competitions, especially live competitions, can be a great way to step outside your comf...ort zone and push yourself to be a better artist. This week I had a chat with Vivianne Tran, an Australian makeup artist who has worked in Asia, Europe and most recently, Africa. Vivianne spoke about how entering competitions has been a big part of her success as an artist, as it not only brought more brides to her business, but also helped her to get known by other artists who she was then able to assist, and who recommended her for work. You can see the full interview here: https://wp.me/s5wSAY-vivianne
